Hey! I'm an interior designer, and the sidewalks being different colors is an actual thing called wayfinding! There are obvious wayfinding tactics such as signs and symbols, but something as simple as a different color on the ground can help orient a person better without them even knowing it, as they'll subconsciously associate that color with the part of the park they're in! :)

This concept of way finding that you speak of he's very commonly for those with disabilities as well. And somebody He was blind for 3 years, using different tactile floors, or adding smells to certain areas helped and then for those I have lower IQ sometimes using different colors can help them find their way because colors are easier to Precept then directions.

Wayfinding? Is that where the newest Star Wars got the idea for their way finder? That's very odd. Thanks for the info though.

Yes, they do actually pump out the smell at least on Main Street at DL. I think Jody Jean Dreyer, an Imagineer, actually talked about it in her book (which I can't remember the name of at the moment).
And about the trash cans... I think I remember learning somewhere that Walt went to other amusement parks and watched people throw away trash. He would count the number of steps people would take before throwing trash on the ground and the average was 30 steps, (I think?) So, the space between trash cans at DL was that average. (My friends and I actually tested this one day, and it was true. xD )

See I don't doubt that they used to do that, but I'm not sure if they do now??? and hahaha I LOVE that you tested it! That's totally something me and my friends would do hahaha

The tour guides on my Backstage Magic tour that I took last year confirmed that they used to pump scents in to the exterior areas of the park and they actually showed us one of the units located on the wall in the Utilidor Below Main Street. They did say that the system is no longer in use outside of rides like Pirates or Sorin.

I went to Disney World just a few years ago. When it comes to Rope Drop, the show on the train is no more. They do a stage show now. This change was made to prevent crowd build up at the front of the park. By moving the morning show to the stage, they allow the crowd to spread and begin moving wherever they need to go much sooner then they did with the train show.
When it comes to the "brown stripe" down Liberty Square, the sewer thing is real. The Imagineers designing that area of the park even went so far as to place the bathrooms in locations that are not "technically" part of that section.

They do indeed pump the smells out into the walkways/lands. Helps entice guests into the bakery for example. Dinosaur is exactly the same track layout of Indy, different motion though. The Trader Sam fact is true, used to the cover of one of the old Jungle Cruise boats. Not sure about the other JC facts. As for MK opening show, that used to be true before they moved the show to the castle stage. Great reaction video Olivia, hope you're keeping safe and well :D

Hi, graphic designer here! On the topic of the Mickey Mouse red, it does make sense that they would copyright a name that is represented by that six digit code but that doesn’t keep people from using or finding a close match, it is a way for Disney to make sure they are all the same and a branding tactic haha.. idk if that makes sense lol

Another fun fact about flags in Disney World. All of the flags that you see on the buildings are fake or misprinted, however the only real flag is the one on the flagpole when you first enter the park. It’s actually ceremoniously raised and lowered every single day and if you were a veteran, you may be asked to lead the lowering of the flag. So keep that in mind if you have a family member who is a veteran.

Hi Disney CM and enthusiast here! My understanding with the flags not being "real" american flags is a bit of a warping of the truth. I brought this up to a Main Street CM one day and they told me of a video, I apologize for not remembering exactly who made it but I believe they were a fairly large CZcamsr (maybe SuperCarlinBrothers?) where the host explained that the flag code is not the reason for the inaccurate flags. From what I remember the flag code is just strong suggestions made by the government and haven't been used to get anyone in legal trouble. The real reason for the mostly "inaccurate" flags is that Main Street is set in a very specific time period, back when America was not all fifty states yet and so the flags represent what the flag looked like back when Main Street is set, thus they don't have all the stars that the current flag has. This fact seems to be so widespread however that most people just assume it to be completely factual.
Edit: I found the video! It was made by a channel called Rob Plays! Here it is: czcams.com/video/5kpGotHJv8E/video.html

FUN FACT ABOUT TRASH CANS!! My Mom and Dad were able to visit Disney Institute when we worked with Salvation Army in California. The people who talked to them and gave them a tour of Backstage Disneyland, said that Walt Disney walked with trash in his pockets and his hands and counted his steps. I don’t think they sell gum, BUT I worked at Cosmic Ray’s and gum is the absolute WORST to clean up. I found a piece stuck on a chair and i sat there for like 15-20 minutes with a piece of ice sitting on the gum trying to get it off. Honestly thank goodness we don’t sell gum because it would definitely be worse!

I've been told but at least one MK tour guide that under the confectionary at WDW's Main Street, Disney used to release the smell of cookies baking to get guests to think about, crave, and perhaps buy cookies that were sold, but not baked there. After some time, however, Disney decided to start baking cookies on site and to vent the delectable oven exhaust out into the street instead. Same idea, but with real cookie smell.

one of my favorite things about working at hollywood studios was that unless you worked in galaxy’s edge, you could walk anywhere in your costume! the reasoning was that it was supposed to be like being on a movie set where you would see people walking around from different departments, so it added to the concept of the park being a film set. you also couldn’t get everywhere in the park through backstage there. the most backstage way for me to get to toy story land still had me walking onstage to get there so most of the time i just walked the entire way onstage just because i could

I am seeing this five days later but it has been confirmed that certain buildings to pump out certain smells including that cookie smell on Main Street. The smells are either to get you in the mood for the particular land or ride that you’re in or to make you hungry.
To edit this comment, The suite in Cinderella‘s castle in Walt Disney World was not built for Walt Disney. It’s a common rumor and myth. The fact is this was built after Walt Disney was already dead. Construction hadn’t even started on this while he was still alive.
