    Love your ability to wing it with what's in the pantry and fridge. Regarding the processed food, while not ideal, it helps when I really don't want to cook. And if one is an ethical vegan, it is better to have processed foods occasionally. I did my grocery shopping yesterday and bought organic sour cream because I just can't get homemade vegan sour cream right. I bought Kite Hill vegan sour cream the week before and yuck. So if the real stuff makes me enjoy a meal, I guess I'll do it. I do struggle with that decision though because I'd really like to be fully plant based. I grew up on Guam and now live in Florida so I hear you on those 90 degree plus temperatures.

    Loved this video ! I often open my fridge and wonder how I can use all the ingredients up!
    Please do more like these :)
    Also, I love your openness and transparency on your “diet” and lifestyle.
    I personally find putting all these labels on ourselves can make life too complicated and stressful. In my own experience having an “All or nothing” attitude was toxic for me. I set a goal for myself and decided that for me the definition of health was to eat less processed & packaged foods and more whole foods. Eating the way I want to 80-90% of the time and then giving myself grace in between.
    I know many people may disagree but I think it is not healthy to be eating processed vegan meats/products like chicken nuggets. It is soo highly processed and I don’t see any nutritional benefits. I agree with your thoughts of is this really better than eating a piece of meat? If people feel ethically they don’t want to eat the meat then make those alternatives homemade like black bean burgers and so on. Just don’t buy the processed stuff.
    Keep up the content ! :) and don’t worry about what negative comments may come up! Your story will inspire people, focus on that

    faith, thank you for all sharing your gifts with us! I am trying the curry in a slow cooker today and if I get a chance will share the results! I grew up with my family raising a few cows to eat so I do think high quality and or locally grown meat can have health (and quality of life, enjoying culture etc) benefits, just keeping it at a minimum. Agree with another one who commented about using meat more for flavor or garnish than one giant portion. I respect those who chose to eat a certain way due to ethical reasons but I appreciate your journey and sharing how there are many ways to live a healthy lifestyle!

    I’m vegan for the animals first and foremost. So I’d eat the vegan processed food before I’d eat meat. However, just because it’s vegan doesn’t mean it’s healthy. I’m mainly WFPB. I only eat that stuff on rare or special occasions for an occasional splurge. 99% of the time, I don’t eat the vegan processed items. Some of them nowadays are so close in flavor and texture to actual meat that I find it grosses me out.

  • @76katster
    @76katster Před rokem +2

    Total agreement, no fake meat here. If I have the strong desire for meat- I will eat some from the freezer that came from a local farm. For the most part we eat plant based for health.

  • @Ratsfrom42
    @Ratsfrom42 Před rokem +3

    As someone with chronic health issues, autoimmune, etc., I care more about quality so will not touch processed fake meats with a ten-foot pole if I can avoid it. ... okay that was a little dramatic I might consume those 1-2 times in a year when out or at a social event because I'm trying to enjoy myself and be in the moment. But I can FEEL the icky processed chemicals and lab food when I eat it my body needs better. So because of this, and because meats are highly bioavailable nutrients for my struggling tired body, I do eat local meats and ghee from farmers I personally know are sustainable and take care of their animals with big fields, friends, and soft human interaction.

    I think anyone on a plant-based diet should consider that legumes, grains and nuts have high amounts of phytic acid, which blocks the absorption of micronutrients. So food preparation becomes very important. In 2019 the german nutrition society released even a recommendation that people eating foods rich in phytic acid should complement zinc.

    those potatoes are fine--you can even cut off eyes that have grown three or four or five inches and the potatoes will still be edible (cooked of course); curry powder is a very sophisticated taste for tiny palates--most kids won't eat it before teenage years, at least; I am in favor of eating meat instead of processed meat substitutes--you can veer towards fish if possible...as long as you aren't eating meat every day, three times a day--I think you are fine--I eat it about 2 times a week--I try to stay away from expensive cuts and beef, if possible...a cornish hen is tasty an inexpensive (off the bone, it would probably feed four with small children)--I always try to think of meat as a 'condiment'; bag of veggies--great with cream of chicken for chicken pot pie (bread/biscuits on top) or for 'shepherd's pie' with ground turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes on top--both great for kids, easy to make and you might have leftovers with small kids; you may wish to dry some of your herbs, if you end up with more than you can use--dried herbs make a great gift (dried, chopped and in a glass jar with a bow); dts/usa

    For me, there's just no contest, processed vegan food is better than animal products every time. Neither are great for your body, but animal products have the added negatives of environmental impact and the life of an animal. Plant-based processed alternatives are so much less harmful to the world.

    It really depends on why you eat plant based or vegan in the first place. If you’re ok with mass slaughter, horrible cruelty, detrimental effects to our environment, saturated animal fat and cholesterol, then sure, eat animals instead of a soy nugget, but if you care about the planet and sentient beings, then maybe you just use beans instead? FYI your flour is also highly processed.

    My Thoughts??? 7:40 min into the video when you mention "fake" meats makes me just want to unsubscribe. You don't need nuggets in your life. You can just have whole foods. But processed vegan meats are still more sustainable and, definitely, less cruel. Obviously, you are not an ethical vegan so... I got a red flag when I saw the eggs in your fridge but thought they were just for the non-vegans in your family. Trying to understand and I do like that you are mindful of waste. some thoughts on this??

    • @TheConscientiousEater
      @TheConscientiousEater  Před rokem +13

      Feel free to unsubscribe! I hear what you’re saying. I went vegan for health reasons initially and later learned about the effects animal products have on the environment and obviously animals. So I still have a tendency to think about health vs. environment to its good to remember all the aspect of how animal products effect our earth. 3 out of the 4 people in my family don’t try to be plant based or vegan so you’ll definitely see non-vegan products in my fridge. I also made a video about my journey as well so you can watch that a few videos back. Anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Always feel free to unsubscribe. That’s the beauty of YT ☺️
