Calling it now this will be your most watched video regardless of the rest of your CZcams career 😂
Damn it really is 😂
I doubted him at first haha@@BennyChessticles
The fact that nearly every 2nd gen Ram needs a new dashboard almost guarantees his assessment 😂
Gregson called it right
Here it is 2024 and im referring this video thank you man for your awesome job 👍
I’m a do it yourself kind of Guy and when I started looking at your video for a tutorial. I’m baffled of all the work and the back of my mind is like “YOU HAVE GOT TO BE JOKING “. That being said , I have replaced my Dashboard and I just would like to say Thank you.
GOD BLESS.
Nice man! Happy to help, thanks for watching!
That is crazy how much work goes into it. I did one on a 98 back when I was like 19 I’m going on 30 this was an awesome refresher. Thank you much my guy
You got it man!
So happy that we have U-Tube. The Repair Manual’s just show you the Basics. With out your Help being a Home Mechanic would be very Frustrating. Bless you for sharing.😊😊😊
Thanks for watching!
Wow...Now I know why I see so many early Dodge 1500's running around with cracked up dashes. I guess some people don't want to take on the job (or pay someone to fix it). After looking at your video, I wouldn't be afraid to do it. The key is to take your time and label things. Thanks for the video!
Exactly! Thanks for watching!
Awesome and detailed step by step video. Congratulations taking the whole dash out by yourself. I definitely will have an assistant when I do mine.
I appreciate it! Help would definitely be good lol
Probably the best video I’ve seen showing how to remove the dash. Great job!
Thanks!
Great video! That Napoleon Dynamite ending was primo 🤌🤣
Yeah I had to laugh out loud at that one🤣
I was hoping I never heard that name again... oh well
At first, like others, I was thinking “why so much work?” Until it was out, and replaced. Now I have a guide to replace mine. Thank you Sir
You got it! Thanks for watching
Great video! I've watched other videos concerning this topic and they are all a little vague while not showing everthing you need to do. Even the LMC Truck video leaves things out. Your description of each step is clear and the video shows exactly what you're talking about.
A couple years ago, I was doing a full detail on my garage kept 1998 Ram SS/T and found a crack coming from the bolt hole nearest the passenger side A-pillar. I've never seen one start cracking there. I felt like crying since I've babied my truck since new. The crack isn't terrible yet, but it's getting worse. I guess I will order a panel and do this job this winter. If I can do the plenum plate/gasket repair, this should be a breeze.
Thanks man! Good luck with yours!
That was an impressive operation! You really do know your stuff. Beautiful job💪👍
I did this on my '01 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport about three years ago. I also bought the dash from LMC, and the ABS plastic seems to be of much better quality than the OEM. A few things to note. I would definitely recommend a helper when removing the dash. Not so much because it is heavy, but because the remaining plastic is so brittle. The plastic frame where the a/c control panel is at cracked in several different places. I had to use JB weld, wood, old plastic parts, and some ingenuity to keep it all together (thanks, DaimlerChrysler, for making such a crappy dash!). So the helper comes in handy when lifting the dash and not adding extra stress on the already brittle parts.
The helper will also help you save your back. Again, the dash isn't all that heavy but trying to pick it up and twisting and turning in such a cramped place could cause you to hurt your back. Save your back, everyone!
Other than that, excellent video in that it is short, to the point, and isn't filled with annoying music.
P.S.
I am going to look into replacing the headliner which I will also be buying from LMC. I wish LMC would make the overhead console for these trucks. The plastic they (DaimlerChrysler ) used on the consoles is also very weak and brittle (Again, thank you DaimlerChrysler!).
Just picked up my first truck, I got a 98’ 1500 2nd gen standard cab so pulling the dash with less room than you had should be a lot of fun! Thanks for the Awesome step by step brother💪🏻
Right on man! You got it man🤙🏼
Loved it!!
Great job on the details and overall content.🙏🏼
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching
OMG! the fun drinks in the glove box! all I needed to see that I was watching a true truck repair god.
Awesome channel man! This vid will be helpful. My LMC dash just came in for my 01. Hopefully replacing it this weekend if we don’t get more storms in Cecil/Lancaster county again and I get called into work.
Right on man! Thanks!
Thank you for the video, great job, and that Napoleon Dynamite reference at the end was epic.
Thanks man haha
Thanks for this! Excellent & efficient Video without a bunch of babble. Well done!
I appreciate it!
You tube needs to recommend your videos more. Yours are informative, fun and not boring like some. Thanks I am ready to start (I hope), Wish I had you on speed dial, loll
Thank you! Good luck on your endeavor. Feel free to comment if ya snag on anything!
Getting back to you just to be safe. I've been getting a place ready to do the job my shop is full of quads, bikes and other things.
Basically been putting this monster off. But, I live in central Oregon outside of Bend and we have been getting some elevation snow and my car doesn't cut it in winters here. Wide tires and no clearance are the wrong receipt. Today started on what I remembered from watching you video, the first time but had to come in then re-watched it. Now to go out and do more. I'm working solo as well. The actual job I am doing is I am replacing my wiring harness. Flooded the truck, should have let it to dry more but started and drove instead. After 3 miles everything was going crazy. Horns blaring, lights flashing, seats moving, my truck was possessed. lololol. started repairing wires but no way too many burnt. What I was wondering if you knew was that I probably do need to take whole dash out right? aient no short cuts here? I'm not a mechanic but can handle lots of things. Just put whole new suspension, about 20 pieces, on my car. It was scary at first but wasn't too bad a job. If i did it again it'd take less than one day. Just lots of ball joints and big bolts. This job though?!?!?!?!? oh Jesus! I should just get another truck right??? JK. Love my truck. Once again I don't know you but I'm using you for info so thx. if you were close, I'd pay for help. Any response? @@JeepinJimmy
I wish you luck man! Taking the whole dash out is probably your best bet. It also makes a ton of other stuff easy to get to. Im in PA unfortunately!
Best video so far on these dashes. Thanks Brother!
I appreciate that, thanks!
replaced the dash in my 2nd gen today and just followed along with this video! great video and helped tons!!!
Right on! Glad it helped!
How long did it take you to do and were there any significant problems that you encountered?
@@martygriffith2135 It took him 13 minutes !
My entire lower dash crumbled to pieces when I rocked it back. There are no screws holding temp control, radio, and airbag switch. One screw holding the headlight switch. DRT makes a lower. Great video man.
Dang thats bad! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Explained and showed everything.
Thanks man!
Really appreciate the video!! Gave me confidence to do it myself now💯
Right on! Happy to help!
Went through all my stages of grief in five minutes of this video. I think I'm just going to accept the cracked dash. Ain't no way I'm doing all of that bs.
That looks hard, I'm glad that the dash on my '99 looks brand new so I don't have to replace it.😀
I like this video so much I had to subscribe!! Great video keep up the good work
I appreciate it!
What a great video man, it was filmed so well, definitely deserves more subscribers
I appreciate it man!
The editing of this is the quality of an early 2010's tv show. I'm not dogging on you, it's really impressive, especially considering that you put in this much effort for not that many views.
Hey ill take what I can get lol. Thanks!
Well he's gotten 65,000 views as of late 2023, not too bad !
That's a lot to remember!! Very good!! Thanks for sharing!!
You bet, thanks!
This was suggested after I watched the LMC video on how to do the same thing. This was far better. 🙌
Dang, that means a lot! Thanks!
what a great informative video. Thanks Jimmy!
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
Awesome video man thanks, love my 2nd gen Cummins definitely need to do this I just threw a plastic dash cover on for now…
You bet man thanks!
Great video... excellent. Replace the heater core if the milage is anything over 250,000. You'll avoid a 2nd dash removal. Work smart. . Work once.
I appreciate it! This truck has 200k on it so hopefully some life still left!
Loved the napoleon dynamite reference. Great video.
Haha thanks man!
Wow!! Very impressive my man!! Great video!!
Thanks man!
That came out so nice. Need to do the same with my ‘99.
Me too and same year. I have already replaced the engine, transmission, and transfer case, rebuilt entire front end, flushed both diffs, new speakers and tint. Just waiting to do the dash and touch up a couple small rust spots. Truck still looks like new now but I want it completely restored
Did mine also with the LMC but mine was tan. Matched perfectly!
Good to hear! Ive had no complaints with LMC. I used them for this dodge and my '85 Chevy C10. Seems like they always have reasonable prices too! Thanks for watching!
Great Vid! Loved the Napoleon Dynamite reference!
Haha thanks! Glad someone noticed
tearing it apart is fun way to learn thanku brother
You got it man
This for sure helped me out bud thank you
Happy to help man!
Good time to fix ANY heat or air issues! Great video!
Incredible, it’s something I could NEVER DO! Nice job 👍😊
Thanks!!
Dude, thank you so much! Great vid.
For sure! Thanks for watching!
Excellent job ! Got a 2001 and 2002 I have to do soon. I’m going to go ahead and do the blend door USA upgrades when it’s all out.
Right on! Thanks!
What do you mean? Is there something that typically goes wrong with them?
What do you mean? Is there something that typically goes wrong with them?
Sorry so late replying. Blenddoor USA replaces all the doors that are plastic with aluminum doors that have better sealing foam on them. The kit also includes an aluminum driver for the blend door. I put this kit on my dodge when heater core went out and it was worth every penny! Also they give you new foam seals for the everything!
Excellent tutorial video, great job!
Thank you!
Great tips and info. Thanks.
I took mine out last year, i took the windshield out and loosen the kick panels bolts and rotated the dash back about 6" then i could get to the vent screws, i pulled the column as you did as well, just thought i would share.
Right on! I dont think id be able to get the windshield back in once i had it out though haha
Great video and pretty much confirms how much a pia it is to swap out the dash. I’ll probably just go with the hard molded cover that they sell, seems like a way easier install than an actual dash replacement.
Not a bad option! This is definitely a lot of work!
Who makes that hard molded cover?
Where was your video when I needed it most ? But when I got it done my dash was very crunchy I don't know if I would have been able to get it out and lay it on sawhorses
Great job!
Thank you!
I feel like you called me out about that heater core tho lmao 🤣 just got this truck and watched your video cuz the heater is broken and the dash is in shambles lol its like you read my mind o.O
Used your video to pull a good dash. Went well thanks. I definitely would not attempt to pull it with out help or install a good one with out help
Thanks! How did you find a good dash lol
very impressive and amazingly informative; wish I didn't need a heater core replacement that might cost $l,000 to be replaced.
Thanks! The heater core itself is no more than $100 so if you can handle what I did in the video you could save a ton of money!
Plot twist: this wasn't for an instructional video, dude just wanted to show off his cool as hell H1 @7:07!
Lol thanks man! Ive been scheming to get it in a video
Man you done an amazing job!!!!!👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
Thanks man!
LOL! HE PULLED THE NAPOLEON DYNAMITE 🤣
Break the wrist, walk away
Bro great job. Maybe I can fix my dash now
Right on! Thanks man
Awesome job. Was thinking about doing mine, but after seeing what's all involved. I just don't know. Didn't have a clue as to how much has to be taken off.
Thanks!
Awesome video I will give it a shot. Oh I like your style, Cracker Barrel syrup because you never know. Lol
Thanks man! Im glad someone finally noticed😂
This makes it seem easy.
Definitely a 12 beer project
That was a really great video. Well done. I paid someone to do this for me on my '98 about 10 years ago. The problem is the '98 is a one-year-only instrument bezel and they are no longer available anywhere. You can get 94-97, and 99-01/02, but not '98. The difference lies in the size of the hole for the headlight switch. '98 used the old switch in the new dash so the hole is smaller than the '99-up as those used the new rotary knob headlight switch. The newer bezel would look awful, showing the screws and dash structure. It could be updated to the newer style, but it would require a donor truck--you'd need the dash support, the wiring connector, the bezel, and probably some wiring. I just live with the crack in the bezel. 🤣
Great video, sir! Love your channel and just subbed. Quick question... Do you need to remove the entire dash if the windshield is out? Does it make it easier with the windshield out at all?
I ask because I need to do both very soon. 👍
Thanks man! Actually no, I dont think you would have to. The only reason to pull out the entire dash is to get at the bolts facing front so you might be good!
@@JeepinJimmy Thanks 👍
I have a medium size crack across the top of the dash in my '01 Ram 2500. I was considering replacing it.
After watching this video, I have decided there is no way in !@#$ that I'm replacing it by myself!! 😝
Awesome video though!! You got a like & subscribe from me, Jeepin Jimmy!
haha right on. Thanks man!
My 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed 1500 black with most of the white pinstripe 4x4,has a dash skinz dash cap already on the truck when I acquired it, and the glovebox light/switch goes in a like square tap off the bottom of the top dash assembly that is snapped off the glovebox light/switch just hangs inside the glovebox..
Dude this video is epic. REALLY don’t want to fix my dash now hahaha
Thanks man. It would be a lot easier with a second set of hands!
@@JeepinJimmy unfortunately I was only born with a third leg. No extra hands 😒
This is actually way more intimidating than what I thought 😅
@@ffhjvbuydb78eb I walked back out to my truck and saw my messed up dash and thought “eh it’s not so bad”
@@ffhjvbuydb78eb definitely a project😂
Great job!
Solid video bro
I appreciate it!
Great Video!
Thanks!
Great job. Thank you
Thanks!
great video
Thank you!
Nice! I have been wondering if those replacement dashes fit. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Good job man.
Thanks!
Nice job.
Thanks!
at 7:30, a craftsman cotter pin extractor 4319 works well to release the connectors
Thats a good idea right there!
Aliexpress makes a custom made dash cover with just a little fuzz for a custom look. It's only about 20 bucks. You can reinforce the top of the dash with good old duct tape before you do the lay over
Wow I know I'm not done and only 3/4 through the video but I hope you changed the heater core while in there as well.
need to replace one on 02 dodge ram 1500 slt hope it as easy as you make it look
Good luck man!
I followed this very closely, but I was able to get all my screws in and out without removing the dash from the truck. If you’re handy and patient you can do it with a mirror and a well fitting Phillips bit
Dang man that's impressive!
Well done 👍🏽
Thanks!
Good time to replace heater core while you are at it.
I have a 97 Dakota and need to take off the dash to fix the AC but my dad said it’ll crack what side did you get your replacement from?
Nice work on your dashboard. How much Did that cost you?
About $450 in parts
Where you get your parts from? It looks like it all fit in well. I don't trust a lot of these places with their 3D printing garbage. Being even an 1/8th of an inch out of spec can make it tough getting a good fit. If you share would be greatly appreciated. Also Liked and Subscribed
I got everything from LMC Truck. Seems like good quality! Thanks for watching!
thanks david stacy
Thank you?😂
@@JeepinJimmy reminded me of his show a little bit 😂🤦♂️
Good job! I just bought a 1999 Cummings/auto 2500 4x4 quad cab with only 128k on the ticker. It was garage kept its whole babied life! The only crack on the dash is 1 on the passenger middle side. I was contemplating going on and doing this. I have done one before on a 2001. That was the shape of yours. Made a huge difference. Only issue I had was the sub frame was very brittle. I don’t recall seeing one of those for sale to replace. Thought I would pick your brain to leave it or replace it on my new truck
What the hell is a "Cummings" ??
If it is only 1 crack and no holes I probably would kick the can on down the line haha
What do you think a body shop would charge to replace the dash cover? This is just a little too much for me to attempt.
I need to do my dash. Im debating between a skin and a new pad. Mainly because the dash where the bezel clips is all sorts of broken. Would this solve for that? Maybe more intimidating than it should be.
This would solve that, it also comes with new metal retainers. I think it was worth it even though there is a bit more work involved!
Question how u put back the vin plate also passenger air bag how u coconwct de pin they diferent color?
Fast and efficient, Do you have a shop ?
Thanks! No sir just wrenchin in my free time
Great vid! Idk why Im lagging on doin this?
Thanks!
Great video. Definitely would have replaced the heater core and maybe even the evaporator core but great job regardless.
Thank you!
great job is it pretty much the same on 96 model also
Thanks! Honestly I couldn’t tell ya but I’d imagine it is somewhat the same
Does the dash cubby remove where the cup Holder go on the autos
I have some questions i just bought a 01 with 80xxx on it the dash tho is just as bad or worse as far as cracking it seems the plastics that the instruments connect to are also broke is that replaced aswell with the new covers
Oh dang! Im not sure if LMC has that or not!
Just bought a 2001 1500 the dash is completely rotten!
Just saw your detailed video. I wasn’t planing to remove the entire dash to replace the top part but do you say it’s best to , all those wires look confusing lol just don’t want to ruin it 😂
Congrats on the truck! If you do just the cover, you will not be able to get access to the screws holding the defrost vent to the dash. But one good thing is all the wires have different plugs so nothing would get plugged into the wrong place if you did decide to pull the whole thing out!
DRT makes the dash support now if yours is falling apart.
I’m in need of the whole instrument bezel and structure, mine is completely broken, do you know if LMC offers the whole thing?Thank you in advance
By structure do you mean like what you can see at 10:12 in the video? If so I'm not sure if they sell that. But the bezel part number I used in the video is in the description. Thanks for watching!
Used this video to replace the dash in my sons 99 dodge ram. The install went well, but now we’re having problems shifting the transmission. Any advice?
Right on! Automatic?
Bro had the shooters in the glove box😂
You know I keep that Cracker Barrel maple syrup on me
OMG my dash is cracked too im just buying a dash cover im not disasembling the entire truck just to change it LOL
Its definitely a pain in the butt lol
