    you can play quieter without the airiness, it depends on if your mouth piece is opened or closed. with closed mouthpieces you don't need much air for good tone so it's really good for beginners, but with open mouthpieces you need strong consistent air through the instrument and a steady embouchre. I'm telling you this as a bass clarinetist.

    • @pinecow
      @pinecow Před rokem

      I hate advice like this. (No hate ofc, just avoid it in the future). Even though you are right, it's just not helpful, and it's not why he sounds airy. So I've played the bass clarinet for 8 years and at a competition a judge came on stage and told me he wanted me to play as loud as the tuba player and i actually managed it. But i will say this was AFTER i self taught myself to play the Baritone Saxophone which requires A LOT more air. After playing the Bari now for three years for Jazz Band. (marching with it for two) i am A LOT better at the Bass Clarinet and can be A LOT louder. It just takes work. (But another thing is Bass Clarinets just don't really project...well when marching which i did march with one for two years but on stage you should be fine. At the time of writing this I'm a senior in highschool and just had a Christmas Concert at my school and had a solo on the Bass clarinet which was heard very well.) Lots of Love to any and all Bass Clarinet players!!! ❤❤❤

    To those saying he needs more air… no. What he needs is probably a softer reed, maybe even a different cut, maybe more mouthpiece in the mouth, probably a softer embouchure. Playing with more air just creates squeaking when the improper equipment or technique is used. Not saying more air won’t benefit at all, but that’ll only get you so far

    Coming from another bass clarinetist, it Sounds great. Three pointers, 1. Keep your bottom lip tucked in a little more, 2. Make sure you have a good amount of the mouthpiece in your mouth and you're not choking off your sound. 3. Don't be so shy with your air! Haha, but it's amazing and I hope you stick with it👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    I play the bass clarinet now for almost 10 years. The best advice I can give you is to practise playing really loud. Like this you get a much better air flow. It took me aswell quote long to realise it. Aswell I would have a look at your reeds and probably try some weaker once. What I mean with it is when you currently play reeds which are a 2.5 try once which are a 2. This might help a lot. Something else that might help is to take the mothpiece a little deeper into you mouth. Like that the reed has more space to vibrate and you get with not much more effort a much nicer tone. I hope you keep going, because we need more good bassclarinets and I already see that you are going to be great with a view more years of experiance. Keep going you are already doing well.
