Do what I did instead. Remove the heat sink screws (5 in total) . At 4.30 in the video.
lift the heatsink base until you have enough room to remove and reapply thermal paste. Takes 2 minutes.
Nice! It`s works.
Are you saying just remove the bottom cover and then go immediately to the 4 heatsink screws and then just pull it out and reapply paste without going through all the other removing the motherboard mess?
@@FubarMike yes
It's a shame you have to tear the whole computer apart, while the heatsink with its screws is in front of you right from the beginning! All of this because of the stupid fan!
is this 100% certain to be the case?
@@h3xag0nal yeah i'd love an answer.. mine runs hot and i'd like to put some new thermal paste in. it LOOKS like just the four screws and the heat sink will come out.. is the fan holding it in or something? do you seriously have to tear down the entire laptop to do this?
@@rpm10k. yes. I ended up repasting and it was an ordeal. Had a few screws left after reassembly but it worked.
@@h3xag0nal wow thanks for the answer on your 7 month old comment, lol. Mine will run at 55-60c just browsing old.reddit. Fan runs like a turbine constantly. Did it help? Was it worth it? I need to replace my speakers which requires about the same disassembly.. so I'm thinking about it..
@@rpm10k. barely worth it. I think blowing dust out of the radiator and fan did more than the repaste. YMMV.
Great video! You just don't have to remove the whole screen assembly though.
So easy, I did this and I had 3 screws left over.
LOL
I reassembled it back and now wifi antennas are missing
do you seriously have to tear down the entire thing and remove the fan to remove the heatsink?
Very good ty!
I was wondering that what does the wire removed at 3:04 is for ?
I just broke that wire while pulling it out. However, surprisingly my laptop works completely fine.
Anybody having any idea what does it do ?
Fairly likely it's the built in webcam.
@@pfkninenines I thought so, but camera is working properly.
Checked few more things in my laptop, still don't know what that wire is for.
@@pfkninenines @pfkninenines I think I know now, what that wire is for.
The three led lights located right above the HDMI port on my laptop are not working.
Most probably that wire is for those three led lights.
I have a question, at 1:30, the bracket for the fan. Mine broke off (the hole that the screw goes into). Now my computer wont take power. Is this related? I thought it was a normal screw bracket so not that important :/
This bracket missing should not prevent your laptop from turning on. Just be sure that each cable is securely seated.
@@dellpartspeople I figured it out. Had to take out the battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds, plug the battery in, hold for another 30 seconds. THEN it worked :P
What do I do if the heatsink screws are stuck and I'm beginning to strip them?
Make sure you're using the correct size screwdriver so it doesn't slip and strip the screw head. Having a good amount of downward pressure helps too.
You can try this too but any possible damages are at your own risk. Use a can of compressed air. If it's held upside down, it sprays out super cold. If you get the screws super cold, they should shrink just a fraction and that might help them loosen a little easier.
Yeah that’s just a slightly too involved mod for me lol
holy crap. A lot off work
