  • The build begins! In this four part series, I'll be transforming this AMT 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 model kit into a micro RC car using the fully FDM 3D printable FFR SC1 chassis introduced for my previous project. This car will feature some awesome scale details including metallic paint, full depth interior, and a custom 3D printed hood. This video will cover the unboxing, body work, making a custom hood, and priming the body.

Maybe more than I'd like to admit but I do enjoy making these. 😛

The price of these models nowadays blows my mind! 🤯 I remember buying kits of similar complexity and detail (in the '70s) for $8-12! Great work reshaping the right front fender! Looking forward to the rest of the build!

Thank you. There's plenty of fantastic kits out there for around $15-$30 (I think most new release Revell kits are less than $20-$25) which seems like a reasonable price. I think with this particular Camaro kit being long out of production and harder to find some people charge a lot even though It's not equal to the quality of really any modern kit I've assembled. It's not really a very notable year for the Camaro so if you want to build a 91-92, these old AMT kits are probably your only option unless it gets re-released or someone else comes out with a similar year Camaro (not holding my breath lol). I like to keep an eye out for these older, more unique car kits at flee markets and swap meets, but honestly anymore the prices there often seem just about as crazy as on eBay.

What program did you say you used for the scanning and modeling of the hood on this 1991 Camaro build??

If you ever have to do the body straightening again a hair dryer (which i normally use to dry paint on my lexan rc bodies. ) should work. A heat gun might be quicker but could make it too soft or even catch fire.

Your work will elevate to the next level when you start putting lights in your wonderful creations, my child. I suggested this to you more than a year ago. I follow Oscar Tamayo's channel for the work he does at 1:87 scale. There are others, but I enjoy his the most because of his innovations. Check his work out, and you will see that you can squeeze in the lighting. Free advice is worth every cent. Now back to your regularly schedule programming. :)

Yes, but it takes a lot of time to design and a lot of time and material to print. Also would need something like a vacuum former to make the clear parts.
