  • A little project I worked on when I needed a hood for a Revell 1/25 scale 1969 Camaro model kit. This project also served as a test for some new techniques for creating various custom body panels, body kits, and other accessories. This video shows the entire process from scanning a hood for reference, modeling a custom hood, 3D printing it, and post print finishing work. I know some people on social media where interested in seeing the build process, so hopefully this video is a good overview of the process. I'll certainly be using this process to create more parts in the future.

I think I found my perfect hobby, I like lots of things, 3d modeling, printing, cad, product design, programming, electronics (custom pcb), tinkering and crafting with hands.
In small rc cars you can combine all of it, from form, design to cad, cnc, custom electronics for headlights, remote control and other functions. And with time and experience make it smaller and smaller untill you can make 1/72 scale perfect intricate replicas. Not sure if these things would have market to sell.

A little "nerdier" of a video today. I know some people have been interested in seeing the process of scanning and modeling a part so hopefully this helps give all of you some info and ideas. I'm really looking forward to making more parts like this and continuing to experiment with designing and printing. 👍

Turn on Clipping in the mirror tool if you want the subdivide modifier to not subdivide that centre edge :) Its nice to see you using something that i use Daily ! (Blender) Also yeah, 2.8 is one hell of a learning curve, but is so much nicer than 2.79. Keep up the good work !

Man... You said it at the beginning! Been wanting a 3d printer and scanner ever since I saw them used years ago... just not at the right place in my life to drop cash on that, unfortunately.. It's gonna be styrene and body filler for me, for at least a little while still.... lol
Thanks for sharing! This stuff is awesome to watch, and I'm getting some great education for when the time does come! ...and as always, AWESOME WORK!

Nice one video there Make It RC you have lots of ideas to do in the future and may i ask you are they plans on making 3d print parts like a drag wing, parachute and wheelie bars just to name a few things but also do you think it's possible to do a drag car like say mustang or camaro someday in the future.

I was wondering as someone with no 3d printing experience. In hindsight would it be practical to print the part thicker to allow for and maybe minimize the warp then sand to final shape? It's more work but would it balance out in the end with a more favorable finish inside and out? I'd like to print my own custom parts soon and am learning from your insights.

his first part was most likely PLA off the fdm printer the second one was a formlabs resin which is mega money if you want that print quality go with an MSLA printer they are fairly affordable and I hear good things about the elegoo brand resin
