    Can anyone fossick at that spot or does some own that whole area ? Looks a great spot Thanku

    • @BoulderOpal
      @BoulderOpal  Před 3 lety

      It belongs to a cattle grazing company under pastoral lease. You would have to go to the Mines Department, fill out and lodge a prospecting permit then notify the landowner. The area is difficult to get into, access and knowledge wise.

    I have to ask, how do you find out about abandoned mines?

    • @BoulderOpal
      @BoulderOpal  Před 2 lety

      I've been exploring for opal in Queensland for a long time and know my way around. Very few absolutely 'new' mines have been found. Most are on the site of 'old timer' workings dating back to the late1800's. Have a look for this: "The opal-mining industry : and the distribution of opal deposits in Queensland" You should find it on Google. It is a list and description of all the major opal mines in Queensland.

      @@BoulderOpal Thanks. I found a nice palm size nut with colour in the fossicking area, and just bought a big parcel from one of the cutters/polishers i have been talking to. For a very good price i think after going through it.

    Hello, my name is Werny and my Hooby are boulder opals! I always saw and grind myself, the problem is I don't get any bigger pieces of raw material here in Germany So my question it is possible for a few 100 Euro beautiful pieces directly fromof the mine. Greeting Werny
