  • Citruses such as lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, and more are easy to grow from seeds. In this video, I’ll show you how to germinate and grow citrus seeds using the plastic bag method and sowing directly in the soil.
As with many fruit trees grown from seeds, the citrus seedling may not produce fruit true to type or identical to the original fruit. It may also take several years for the tree to produce fruit.
Also, I’ll teach you what to do if your citrus seedlings or grafted citrus trees are damaged from extreme cold weather, based on results from a local freeze event.

Super stuff... I've been keeping a collection of citrus trees here on Vancouver Island. It surprises me how growing hardy citrus like trifoliates never caught on here.
I think outdoor citrus adds to the feeling of warmth to a location like the effect palm trees have.
I've had unifoliate citrus survive -9C in a unheated greenhouse. It's cool stuff.
Oh, and most of my citrus is from seed. Its interesting how varied it is

The sour orange is called Flying Dragon, and it's a commonly used rootstock for grafted trees. I’ve never seen or heard of them being sold as a citrus tree. If a nursery has damaged citrus trees where the scion dies (which happened in Texas due to the freeze), you can remove the scion and let the Flying Dragon grow.
I’ve seen Flying Dragon oranges in parks in an East Texas town, and it’s an interesting and thorny tree.
