Growing Tamarinds Part 3| Spring to Fall 2020 Update
Donât the males have thorns! The fruit is delicious!
Hello Shamrockgirl, nice video! now we are in September and my tree is full of baby cherimoyas and at the same time, the whole tree is full of new branches and leaves. Do you recommend it gets a trim so nutrients will go more into the fruits, instead of the branches/leaves? If yes, how much do you trim? thank you!
I bought a sugar apple at a Asian grocery, first time I tried it. I thought it was quite delicious and exciting to eat. Can't wait to plant the seeds.
@shamrockgirl804 I have a â what if I do not pollunate the flower when it blooms? will I not have dragon fruit to harvest?
Any tips how to keep those little whitefly away from sugar apple trees?
Grown some Jackfruits this year. Put the seed in the soil and they sprouted in Spring. They grow straight and have fuzzy leaves. They are thriving in partial sun. Now moved them to get more sun. They are in one bucket and will have to split them up someday. Jackfruits does not like the bucket, but they should be fine for a couple of years. Then you need to plant them in the ground as they grow huge. If pot is the only option, then the minimum size is 30 gal with 45 gal as idea for fruit production. Any bigger you need super man power to move them.
Lychee does not grow well in Zone 9B. Too hot and dry. It's barely living as a seedling.
I lost my first year fruit from large hail and high winds for tornado. Fingers crossed for next yearđąđ
I was able to grow it from seeds. 2 trees was able to grow fruit fairy fast within 3-5 years and are multi trunk. You may want to skip the first 2 years of fruits as they as small and tasteless. Later after growing it over 6 feet tall, I was able to get giant Pomegranate. Softball size fruit. One of them tasted like fruit punch. The other one all have the end rot and I could not taste the final product. The mother tree is unknown and grow isolated from the other Pom. This year, my 3rd tree was able to fruit. 3 fruits on the tree and just like the other 2 trees from the beginning, the fruit is small. The only difference is, the flower was deeper red and the fruit skin appear to be deeper red too.
Thank you. I am in Spain and will try it. I have a lot of seeds
Thank you Jamie you're helping me get a new hustle. I'm now selling sour soaps trees and other exotic fruits you the best. I'll support the hustle soon. Again thanks alot
Wonderful dancing! It looks so fun!
Where do you get a Texas or American Persimmon plant from?
Where can I buy the pollen vials?
The flowers will be closing the next morning !!!! How could we pollinate them , if we wait for 12 hrs !
I follow you tecnique!!! All the flowers now are dying and on the ground !!!! My sister , who planted dragon fruits for yrs said that the white dragon fruit flowers donât need to ne pollinated !!!!!
Those fruit trees look awesome! What size containers do you have them in?
It got scorched cos you did not acclimatise the plant to the sun, from growing inside the house. Put it out for an hour at first then increase an hour daily. Start when the sun is not at its zenith to avoid scorching. Tammy still would of recovered if you left her outđ€đ€đŹđ§
do epiphyllums make fruit?
Mine are so tiny right now
Look neat, but too much works for tiny little fruit.
i just stumbled across your channel from the foraging for texas persimmons video and the viola was a pleasant surprise :)
Makes great homemade wineâ€
Mine is still tiny
I donât use a dome, plant the fresh seeds and they will come up.
Mine has four leaves now , do I water everyday,do I keep them out in direct sunlight.?
Where can we find custard apples in Dallas, Texas ?
What is the specific asian fruit market in Houston that sells custard apples ?
Hi , I am from Texas. We love this Custard apple fruits. Do you know any place to buy these fruits ?
I planted 8 Texas persimmon seeds without stratification or scarification and they all sprouted
@@Sam-ko1lo Now that itâs the active season, I want to try that! Iâve also heard theyâre easy to sprout. đ I thought they were similar to American Persimmons. The soaked seeds never sprouted.
This is very helpfulâ€
Awesome video.
I just planted my Custard Apple tree in the ground its about 4ft in just 1 year fingers crossed it does well and we get fruit in 2 years hopefully less
Nice feel for that tune! Look forward to hearing more.
Awesome video! Thank you!đ
Wow that so cool any update of Tammy at this time ??
Youâre lovely. Thank you
Do you have to use a different pollen for American Beauty
@@darleneswetz8325 No. American Beauty is self-fertile, so you can use its own pollen.
It is edible as a marmalade.
This is the first time I've gotten budd on my two self-fruiting plants, and wasn't sure what to expect through th flowering process. This video is very helpful--thank you!
I'm so glad I could help! đ
If I tried to pollinate my dragon fruit and have had no fruits form on 4 of them do I assume I have self sterile and now need different pollen. How can I determine what variety I have or is this something I have to wait and see once I have successfully pollinated with a different pollen
If the flowers are not producing fruit with their own pollen, it's safe to say it's a self-sterile variety. It's difficult to determine the dragon fruit variety by branch, bud, flower, and fruit descriptions alone. You may have to join a local dragon fruit group (i.e. Facebook) and request pollen. There may be growers in your area who may give you pollen from another variety.
@@shamrockgirl804 thank you. I will look for a group. Have about 10 buds and I would love to get some fruit out of them. Also. My favorite is the yellow and that is why I began growing. Are other varieties just as sweet
So awesome I loved this and I came here to learn about plants!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for the tip!â€
Love this I been spitting tamarind seeds into my front yard since I moved into my house in 2018. Last week I was getting ready to mow when I spotted a weird weed in my front yard I bent down to get a closer look. There it was my own baby tamarind tree!
Awesome! You gotta let it grow to have a unique seedling and potential tree!
Thank you for this video!
What did you mean when you said you soaked the seeds for several months?
I soaked the seeds in room temperature water for several months. I did the same thing to American Persimmon seeds and they germinated after I planted them and began young seedlings. However, the Texas Persimmons seeds didn't germinate. For the 2024 season, I plan on using different germination methods for these seeds.
@@shamrockgirl804 I planted 8 Texas persimmon seeds in pots without soaking and without stratification or scarification as an experiment to see if any would germinate. They all sprouted.
Great information. Thank you for sharing. How long it takes to have fruit?
How is Tammy??đ Please do an update. đ„č
As of August 2024, Tammy is looking amazing! She's now about six feet tall (taller than me) and is fully leafed out. I'm still waiting on flowers but she's the best she's looked in a long time! I plan to do an update very soon in late summer 2024! Tammy and the other tamarind trees have transformed over the past year!
This is one of the best videos on pollination. A lot of hidden lil jewels that I can see me rewatching and recommending
Thank you so much! This was a passion project fueled by first-time experience and next year improvements!
