this is a update video on my haversack and its contents..i cover the things i carry and give insight into the thought process of kit selection...thanks for watching
Your story about Nugget is very similar to Mountainman 1478's story about his dog. It's hard to beat a good dog. I couldn't imagine going in the woods without one.
Re watching a lot of your older vids…probably 3 x watching this one since I subbed you years ago…hey Nugget the wonder dog, you’re an absolute sweetheart! Thanks for sharing the story on Nugget with us Blackie. Have a blessed day.
Love the duct tape roll. I like bank line too, strong enough and compact. In Canada we get cold nights most of the time so extra wool clothing is important. Around home I don't worry about getting lost, but that is the usual way a camper finds himself outdoors overnight.
Nugget looks like a great dog, I wish I had one for a woods companion. I tested out my 80's Serbian surplus knapsack tonight with my tarp rolled up underneath, and it works great. Love the M14 pouch, I have one in canvas called an M56 universal pouch that fit the old 20 round M16 mags. Nice setup
True words on the Haversack content my friend! Great vid. and a big "hey, glad you here" for nugget! THANKS Blackie for all those great vids, enjoy watching them every single time. ATB from Austria Mike
I enjoyed this video.... I appreciate your common sense approach to survival.... reminds me of what my grandfather and father taught my brother and I... thanks again....
Another great video and tell nugget I said hey too. Keep on making them I'll keep on watching I'm learning it seems like stuff that you said before is hit home now. thank you. 🚶💀
it was a MXZ saw..a as seen on TV thing that came with a wonder blade to cut anything( diamond dust blade)..but i got as a present ..i soon found that recipricating saw blade fit perfect..so now ihave replaceable blads for very little cost.
I could only imagine carrying my gun with me. I'd love to carry my Garand or shotgun. Doing that in PA is a great way to have cops draw on me, woods or not.
Great material Blackie! I always learn so much from you. Couple of things that I have added to my own haversack that I thought you might consider as well: 1. Small tube of super glue in my match safe. Superglue was originally created for field medics to use to close up cuts and wounds in a hurry. It works like a charm and can prevent an infection in the wilderness by sealing up the wound. I’ve even used it around the house when I cut myself in a place where I know a Band-Aid is not going to stay on like on my hands for example because I keep washing my hands. 2. Fishing hooks. You just never know when you might need to catch a fish and they can be used to suture yourself much easier when you only have one hand to use. 3. Tincture of iodine. Best antiseptic ever invented in my opinion. Thanks again brother for all you do
Excellent kit.. simple and effective! I know this video is old, but when it popped up I had to watch. Murphy is a mean old bastard! Lol I was always told Murphy was Female.. Lol Thanks for the video...
@ Kayakwinds..the tinder stays dry..i am sure a full dunking would wet it after a minute or so..but i use the 2/1 tinder method..(2 tinders that will work wet..1 that will always work dry)..i carry firestraws and a block of fat would for wet ..thanks for the comments..safe journeys
Blackie, when i got drafed in '72 what you call a compass pouch was issued to all as the bandage each soldier carried in case of injury. Only the squad leader was issued a compass. Troops followed blindly.
Nugget appears to be totally in charge of the K9 bushcraft priorities, constantly vigilant and alert for intruders. How about a video on Nugget's EDC? Wasn't that a paracord bracelet around Nugget's neck for a collar? I bet Nugget has completed the Advanced Bushcraft Certification.
I love the old-school GI stuff. I have the Vietnam era medium Alice pack and the butt pack. I prefer the Korean War style H suspenders instead of the Vietnam War style Y suspenders. I love the chow hall divided metal trays and the cutlery and those chow hall serving spoons are great also. By God you could beat somebody to death with one of those serving spoons.
Downside I see to a small version of a haversack is not having room for browse items, either those you might need or the ones you want to bring home and show your grandson. Great video, thanks for sharing.
awsome vids,I have a question could you possibly do a video about the line on whats too much gear,or redundent gear and how to cut down.and how to pack properly for a set number of days like a 7 day to a 14 day what would be the proper pack out.THANK YOU for all the great vids.i allways find my self going back to youre vids to referencing you.once again thanks.Chris
@dcordy..hahaha nugget take the bushcraft world in stride...when he follows me on walks he carries his own water and food..and i had a gps paracord collar on him till this summer when he lost it..he will be on a upcoming video soon....safe journeys
I've been sweating for a long time and still do, building this kind of kit. lol . I generally wanna carry more first aid more means for shelter. it is so difficult to decide what I need for sure, what i may need and what can be a lifesaver( like emergency combat dressing). trying to make it all in similar pouch like you got.
that's the true point..find what you think you will need and carry as much multi- use items as you can so when the unexpected happens you have a good chance on having the tools and supplies you need...thanks for the comments safe journeys
Interesting video. Looks like you found a great friend in Nugget (and vice versa). Had to sub you for both reasons. How does your haversack kit tie in with your main kit on a longer outing?
Great video, love the duck tape tool! Curious, what are your thoughts on water "cleaning"? Specifically, tablets, boiling, and the newer small filtering devices?
Nicely done video. However, is your tinder in the metal can going to stay dry? Maybe a plastic bag around it would improve matters? Just thinking out loud. By the way, I have taken to carrying a 42x42 inch shemagh. Much larger than a bandana, it can totally cover my head and shoulders when correctly tied, although it makes you look like a desert rat. It certainly keeps the bugs off you. The cloth is also great if you want bundle loose items.
What kids of foods did you guys carry? Lots of Oodles of Noodles and some can goods here. Both worked well in the canteen cup. I have the same cup and Kabar I had since I was 10.
mostly we took thinks like mac and cheese..cup soup..and rice dishes..but a great deal of time was spent fishing / hunting to fill the meat pot..thanks for the comment safe journeys

Hey nugget..your a good dog. You are the lucky one..you have a good home...many dont. 1000% love n loyalty
i love how your dog is looking around like, "who are you talking to?"

Great ideas I like you keep things simple and easy to understand. Nugget is a cool dog.

An excellent replacement for birthday candles in a fire kit is joke relighting birthday candles. I keep one in a straw to keep keep it safe.
Love the saw

I vote for a nugget video too

Where did you get or bye your saw at good video
Great video, love the duck tape tool! Curious, what are your thoughts on water "cleaning"? Specifically, tablets, boiling, and the newer small filtering devices?
i boil my water..but i feel one of the filters would be a great investment if you are going on a long term camp
Dumb question...would a piece of a ladies every board..for her nails...work to strike matches.
Nicely done video. However, is your tinder in the metal can going to stay dry? Maybe a plastic bag around it would improve matters? Just thinking out loud. did the childhood gear ride on a pistol belt? if so....sounds very close to what I carried and still do.
+jeffgail99 sometimes..often i carried it on a strap to make it easy to take off for use up close when doing camp tasks
