    Thanks for the video. Gave me the confidence to change out water pump on my '14 JGC myself. Turned out to be easier than I thought. Good suggestion with the cardboard to keep bolt location. I used a drop of oil on the first few threads of the bolds during assembly to reduce friction since they are threading into aluminum. Helped them go in easier then torqued them down to 20 ft-lbs.

    So, I swapped out my water pump on my 2012 5.7 Hemi Jeep today. I have to say, your box-bolt diagram holder is the best idea ever! It was a life saver. I can't tell you the number of times I swapped out a water pump in an autopart's parking lot! The last time was on the way to the beach in a 2005 Jeep grand Wagoneer with the 3.6L V6. That water pump is stupid simple to replace and took less than 2 hours...unfortunately, we lost a bolt in the process and that took an additional hour+ to find it! (it was between the radiator and the AC condenser). Had I done the box-bolt diagram holder, the job would have been done 2 hours quicker! Thanks for the idea! The water pump went smoothly and the Jeep is no longer over heating now!

    Just did my wife's '12. One thing I'll add is, it doesn't hurt to back fill the waterpump via that bleeder plug on the pump face. I fought with flash boiling for awhile, even replaced the t stat after installing the new pump. Never had to do this on a waterpump before, but it did the trick.

    Hope this helps. Once upon a time I replaced and idle pully. Brand new oem Part out of the box bound tight when the bolt was torqued. So I used a washer just big enough to touch the pully bearing center shaft but not the shield or outer race under the head of the boIt. I had to drill a small washer to fit the bolt. Use a vise or vice grips and step drill not a twist bit for oversize washer holes. Any time you need to drill thin metal with a larger than thickness bit use a block of wood to support punch thru.

    Great vid, but I would recommend opening the bleeder plug until coolant runs out when refilling the rad. You don’t want an air lock. Don’t notice if you placed the t-stat giggle pin at 12:00 o’clock to help prevents air locks, but always a good idea.
    Did you use anything on the o-ring for the heater pipe? I would think Silglide would be ok.

      Also, install the tube *BEFORE* you tighten the bolts. Leave the pump loose and put the tube in. A dead-blow hammer worked for me. Then tightened down the bolts (15 foot pounds in a criss-cross pattern, then 21 foot pounds) and the tube stayed put!

    • @learnsavediy
      @learnsavediy  Před rokem

      Exactly my thoughts. Especially with prices of everything, DIY is the way to go if you feel comfortable. I think it was ~$120 for the belt, pump, coolant, and thermostat (not including tools). You could easily get the rest of the tools and likely be under $200 or $250 and then you easily saved yourself $650!

    Dear friend, first of all I am grateful for your work, it is really very important and interesting. Perhaps you can help with some advice, I replaced it on my Hemi about 25,000 km, but unfortunately I did not use sealant for the gasket, in your video it is red. Now, around the pump I encounter particles of dried antifreeze. I bought a new pump and want to repeat it, but only with sealant. Thank you sincerely in advance.👏🏻

    • @learnsavediy
      @learnsavediy  Před 6 měsíci

      You are welcome. I actually did a follow up video where I developed another water pump leak because of a loose bolt: czcams.com/video/yJTfSiD_90M/video.html . Maybe that video might give you some more thoughts to consider. The gasket should do the job without a need for sealant/RTV. The RTV is purely there to help hold the gasket in place. I would say there is nothing wrong with using the gasket with a little RTV but you can get away without it. The seal is made with the gasket. Might also want to ensure to check the water pump torque specs since they could be loosening themselves over time.

If it starts to back, it is due to the head expansion and the thermostat not opening yet (which is why is finally goes down once the car is up to operating temperature). Otherwise bleed the system as shown in the video and put the residual coolant necessary to fill the coolant reservoir tank to the "H" line indicating the "hot" full line.

      Personally I wouldn’t want to gamble it. Coolants are specially formulated for the engines they are in so I find it hard to believe there is a all-in-one solution that works well on every car. I’m sure it would “work” but the long term effects might cost more than what you saved. If you don’t want to buy mopar, I have heard that Zerex is “equivalent” off-brand.

      Depends who you ask. If the o-ring was not torn nor worn to the point coolant could seep out, personally I'd say don't worry about it.

    It is not necessary to use RTV.. that pump has a gasket and grove designed to compress the gasket for the seal. Adding RTV is just opening the possibility for a leak..

    • @learnsavediy
      @learnsavediy  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I find it makes it easier for installation and after 30K and 3 years no leaks I have no qualms, but if someone can do it without it, go for it 👍

      My ‘05 had an orange silicone style o-ring and no rtv the first it was changed. Most aftermarket wp’s come with a rubber o-ring. So a little rtv shouldn’t hurt anything.
      Permatex makes a grey rtv specifically for wp’s.

    • @learnsavediy

      It's a water pump bypass so that while the thermostat is closed coolant can still circulate. It's the inlet for the HVAC (see link: amzn.to/48t1wCo)

    • @learnsavediy
      @learnsavediy  Před rokem

      @@alvaro19899 Sorry. I deleted my response so I can not cause confusion. There are two types of coolants you can get: concentrate or 50/50. If you get concentrated like I did, you have to add distilled water. If you buy 50/50, the water is already added. It is cheaper to buy concentrated and add your own water but either will work. Just make sure to add water if you get concentrated since it does NOT have the water added. Your coolant should always be 50% antifreeze and 50% water. I hope that clarifies it now!

    Question after use the red rtv did you have to end up changing pump again or take it back to use a different rtv

    • @learnsavediy
      @learnsavediy  Před 3 lety

      I use the red RTV just to help hold the water pump gasket in place since it is being mounted vertically and may fall out of place. I have not had any leaks or issues using the red RTV in addition to the included gasket.

    • @CanyonCreekKevo

    • @wmmonahan
      @wmmonahan Před 2 lety +1

      You shouldn't ever use red rtv form a gasket with a rubber or any factory gasket. You should use a spray adhesive to hold a factory gasket in place while attach part to motor.

    • @learnsavediy
      @learnsavediy  Před 2 lety +1

      Depends. I called the dealer and they said labor was ~350 and the pump was another 300. They said it was another 150 to diagnose the water pump as the source of the coolant leak. So labor and parts was at least 750 if not more. I didn't call other shops but I assume it would a couple hundred at the very least. I paid ~120 for the pump, belt, thermostat, RTV, and coolant. It was super easy job and I'm glad I did it myself, especially as this is a known issue for these GC's.
