  • Water pump replacement DIY. Learn how to replace a water pump at home using common hand tools. I was able to easily replace this water pump in under an hour and saved $783.
    Replacing the water pump on many cars is not difficult and this is a perfect example of an easy to replace water pump. You could do this entire job without any special tools and I spent under $60 in parts which is unbelievable after getting the $843 quote from the Jaguar dealership. I will also do a video on a more difficult water pump so you can see what is involved in that as well.
    Thanks PEAK for the coolant product placement in this video!

    The Dream Car video is coming but because it is a very special video for me, I want to make sure it is amazing, so it is taking a little longer than I thought to film and edit (you will see why when it comes out). In the meantime, I filmed and edited this water pump video to bridge the gap. I actually edited this video during my 2 week long road trip where I had meet-ups for you guys in Cincinnati, Indy, and Chicago! As always thank you for the support and stay tuneeeeeed!

    Excellent video, you have a great down to earth "keep it simple" mentality. I did the pump in my wife's 2005 Yukon. The shop wanted $750 to do it. For $262 total in parts, including new thermostat, upper radiator hose and serp belt, and a few hours (my first time, I wanted to take my time and do it right) it was worth the $490 savings. It's run like a champ since, she's made several long distance trips with it and not a drop of leakage.

    A little trick I've used in my almost 30 years as a professional factory trained technician is while it's sitting there with your spill proof funnel full, grab the rad hoses and squeeze them quite a few times so the coolant pulsates in the system and it'll almost 100% bleed your system before you've even started your vehicle.. It's so simple and I've never encountered a vehicle this didn't work on.

      "Well, first you put on your eye protection and blue gloves... All you're going to need is a Highballglass, a shaker, some common ice, a few fluids and a straw! It's_that simple!_ You should always check your recipe book to make sure you know how to make the drink, but this one is very simple, so let's get started!
      First, you want a double of Soapy Wooder, a dash of Medium Strength Threadlocker, and a half ounce of Blinker Fluid, your gonna want to shake it at 20 FtLbs of torque and make sure you get it nice and shaken up. You go to the dishwasher and find a clean cup... out with the old, in with the new. You pour the drink over rocks in a highball glass and top it with a gasket garnish.
      That's it! Your done!
      You just made the ChrisFix drink and saved a ton of money on alcohol and it looks great!

    I had to stop my hand from trying to reach through my phone to try and pet your dog. lol
    Also, I had a drain plug shear off and didn't have an OEM radiator. So I put steel stick in the drain plug to seal it. It stopped the leak, but my engine was still overheating. I did some trouble shooting and some googling. I narrowed it down to either my thermostat or my water pump. After watching your video on the thermostat, I pulled my thermostat and it wasn't bad, in fact it was almost new. (About 1 1/2 years old) So then I watched this video. I'm currently replacing my water pump.
    I go to your channel for all of my car maintenance questions. A mechanic will tell you is a 3 hour job and needs a bunch of specialty tools. (fan clutch) In reality Joe Smoe (me) can do it with basic tools in 30-40 minutes. Your tutorials are the best. Keep it up.

    After starting the engine, I usually turn the heater on high to circulate the coolant through the heater core.

    • @dunebasher1971
      @dunebasher1971 Před 4 lety +50

      That only helps if your car uses an old-fashioned heater valve system, where coolant is only diverted through the heater core when you turn the heater on.
      Many cars these days are designed so that the coolant is always flowing through the heater core. When you turn the heater on, you're not changing the coolant flow, you're just opening an air door that allows the hot air from the core to enter the cabin.
      Every car I've owned since 1992 has used the more modern system.

    • @edbo10
      @edbo10 Před 4 lety +2

      my 96 camry still uses the heater valve system, you can see the cable that connects the heater dial to a valve on the coolant hose in the engine bay, the valve is located right before the firewall. Turning it all the way to cold fully shuts off the heater core from the cooling system, you can also hear a clunk which I'm guessing is an air door as well. Turning the dial just one click away from the lowest setting opens the valve very slightly however.

      Hey, my car is aircooled, too. But its waaaay cheaper. Check out "Trabant", you would never ever need a tutorial on fixing it...

    Great Video Chris,
    I'm saving money and researching to change my timing belt, cam and crankshaft seals, tensioner, idler, and waterpump and belts myself. Your video showed me a few things others did not. Very clear, nothing rushed, and no time wasted. Keep up the videos.
    But I will say, I didn't find a video of yours clearly titled to show you doing the kind of job I'm going to do. I'd really like to see one though. Cheers.
