Pure class. This guy thanked the equipment manager and remarked he was a friend to all. What a man.
First speech I've seen where a player recognizes the referees -- humility personified.
" If everybody was like Bobby Jones, thered be a lot less trouble in the world" - Charles Barkley
a class act....top to bottom.
For all the young millionaires in professional sports. If you want to also have class, then look no further than Bobby Jones. He was dedicated to his craft, and clearly revolutionized the NBA. Because of him, I believe is why they created the Sixth Man Of The Year Award. Bobby Jones is loved by the city of Philadelphia as much as any player. He is showing you that you can be a great player, HOF'er, and still be a class act and the fans will love you better than anyone. Congratulation Bobby Jones.
Exactly couldn't said it better myself but today's young players they could care less they don't have any class
Amen to that. Player with class.
AMEN----"Smitty...
Yeah, Bobby Jones won the 1st 6th man award. He was a beast. 6'9" w/a 42" vert. He was the only white guy who guarded Bird he never complained about or talked trash to. Nobody in the league didn't respect Bobby Jones. So glad he made the HOF...finally.
Bobby giving his speech much like he played. Class act and humble. I'm glad this underrated player was finally recognized.
He got really good ratings in NBA 2k21 I use him
Should've been there years, decades ago.
@@banebust4196 An all-time defensive locker in 2K, aptly so
Helping (defending and more), being upright-consistent and being a stalwart supporter in the greetings and in the speech, just like how he played.
Yes very humble and underrated, him and Dr J in my opinion was equivalent to Jordan and Pippen as all around great players
This guy was great...incredible player, without him 76rs wouldn't win 83 championship
That 83 championship roster was special, all Malone, Dr J, Bobby Jones, Mo Cheeks, Andrew Toney, all needed, and coached by Billy C.
Yep. After James Worthy broke his leg and sat out the Finals, Jones destroyed the Lakers.
They would have definitely lost the overtime game 1 against the Bucks without him, possibly game 2 too. The Bucks were the only team to beat the Sixers at all in '83. Maybe the Lakers win a game or two?
Awesome speech by Bobby Jones one of my favorite 76ers players all time, also one of the best two way players in Association history!
Bobby Jones always set the tone on defense for the 76ers. When he stepped up the D against the Lakers in the NBA finals the rest of the team followed leading them to the championship.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLAYERS OF ALL TIME AS A KID!!!! JUST SEEING HE MADE THE HOF!!! I AM BLESSED BY HIS ENTRY.
Unsung and Dr J counted on him heavily during those great runs. He consistent and dedicated throughout his career and what a teammate. We 'll deserved.
Certified all-time lockdown.
The Chairman of the Boards Malone together with the Minister of Defense, Bobby Jones.
Absolute class act. If you haven't read his Wiki page, it's superb. I had the good fortune to be coached by him at the UNC camp. Remarkable player and human being.
“the great Andrew Toney” I appreciate the shout out
Man if Andrew hadn't had those injuries he would be in the hall what a jumper he had !!!! The Boston Strangler Yes!!!!
Old school players all the way that's me 60 70 80s and 90s
@@omegabyte167 TRUTH!!!!
Andrew Toney was an assassin, one of the best.
Andrew Toney, the best.
In 1973 I was 6 years old and played in the mighty mites league in Chapel Hill and Bobby stopped by one of our practices. Almost 50 years later, I still remember him bent down to my level patiently showing me how to follow through when shooting the ball. Great basketball player but more importantly, a good man.
Should’ve been in a long time ago, top 5 defensive player of all time!
Agreed
THE sixth man!
YES SIR!!!
A true gentleman. So gracious, kind and a bad ass on the court. He simply did his job and never showboated.
Dude was one of the best in game dunkers of his time.
One of the best defensive big men in NBA history. He could guard multiple positions and has persistent energy that keeps Philadelphia winning. Jones, Erving, Malone, Collins and Cheeks were winners and I respect the 76ers of the 70s and 80s
He was a good player as well with the Denver Nuggets of the ABA
Yes can't forget about his days in the ABA with the Nuggets. Bobby Jones, David Thompson, Dan Issel was an exciting team, I'm shocked they didn't win a championship.
He was a great all around player and one of the best defenders that I've seen in my lifetime.
Also, one of the fastest tall men in the game
Bobby Jones was a hard-nosed, lunch-bucket tough type of player. He was a great contributor to the success of those great Sixers teams. Well done and well deserved.
ABSOLUTELY
I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED the way Bobby played basketball. Always gave 1000% effort....always hustled!!! Always doing "the gritty grimey dirty work" on the defensive side" but could absolutely finish with a much needed bucket when the team needed him to. Bobby was my dude!!
LONG, LONG, EXTREMELY LONG OVERDUE, PERIOD!!!
Incredibly so indeed. Jones and Pippen would be the entire cabinet of Defense.
Pure class. Congrats Bobby!
What a nice, humble speech, giving credit to those who helped him on his journey. Bobby was a tenacious defender and a class act. Good to see Bobby Jones get into the HOF.
What a humble man.
Humble, yet thankful and appreciative.
How many other hall of famers in any sport give an appreciative shout-out to referees in playing a part in making them a great player? Has to be zero. Mind-set of a true winner who chose to learn from every situation.
I’m from Philadelphia,, it was with great pleasure to watch him play the game!! Never looked to score,,but played GREAT DEFENSE against the other teams leading scoring player!! The committee got it right this time!!’
Yeah they did...actually 2x as lil Mo got in a few years back!!!
Charles Barkley on Bobby Jones, "If everyone in the world was like Bobby Jones, the world wouldn’t have any problems."
My favorite player of all time. So blessed to have watched him play growing up. God bless you Bobby! The best defender of all time--and man could he dunk!
100% class act, then and now.
Growing up a Sixers fan was often frustrating but watching Bobby Jones and Doc made it fun even when they were losing. Bobby was always a favorite of mine. They don't make players like him anymore. A true class act.
\
Exactly very frustrating especially 1977 and 1980
@@1990758 well Bobby was NOT a Sixer in 77. But it was a disappointment. George McGinnis and that series was garbage. Doc and Collins only ones to show up in all 6 games.
@@scottdavidson7001 I know but the best team won Portland Trailblazer they played as a team we played as individual players
@@scottdavidson7001 Exactly. Ridding themselves of McGinnis and Free was addition by subtraction. Bobby and Mo Cheeks were a far better fit.
@@scottdavidson7001 Bobby Jones: the perfect antidote for McGinnis. A stunning trade.
Severely underrated. He was an outstanding player.......so glad he was finally recognized for his achievements
He was a 6'9 Pippen. Makes Rodman look sluggish. Anyone who thinks todays players are better have no clue.
@@shawnyoung8752 right on
Growing up as a teenager watching Bobby Jones play makes me think of two words “Quiet Power”. He showed a godly humility that few players in this league ever show. I love how he always gave the glory to Jesus.
Pure Class & Dignity!Congratulations ,Sir & thank you for helping my Sixers win the title when i was a kid❤
What a magnificent speech, from a great player.. Yet such humity & recognizing ALL, that made him who BJ is... God Bless you sir!
One of my all-time favorite players finally receives his just due! I was saddened when Denver traded him away, but happy for him to go to a great organization and win a championship. What a great representative of Jesus Christ this man was and continues to be. Congratulations Bobby Jones!!
Best 6th man coming off the bench, that I ever saw. That's coming as a Knicks fan.
Knick fans know basketball.
Bobby is most likely a top 5 all-time defensive forward... Terrific athlete, tall and lengthy, one of the best finishers (with either hand), great without the ball, very high IQ, ultimate teammate, did everything in order to get the win, was clutch, hustled all out... and most of all, always a class act!
I was trying to rack my brain for someone with the on ball, weakside, multi positional defensive excellence this guy had. Literally only Scottie Pippen comes to mind. Hes like Andrei Kirilenko was, but more complete as a scorer and as a face up defender. He's probably number 2 on my list.
@@mkadoza
Kevin Garnett.
@@mkadoza agree with you for the AK47 Comparison
Pippen and Dennis Rodman are his only Contemporaries. KG was great but Guys like Pippen, Rodman, and Bobby Jones were far more versatile and could guard all Five positions
Well said. You can win with Bobby Jones.
I remember Bobby Jones as meek and humble player who just did his job as the ultimate team player. Yet, he was very instrumental in the Sixers success from 1979-1987. Plus, he was a terrific defensive player, great shooter, great free throw shooter, great scorer off the bench, and had a great nose for making big plays too. One of the greatest Sixers of all time.
A lot of people don't know he has epilepsy which is why he mentioned thanking pat Williams for taking a chance and trading for a player with medical problems , professional hard working 💪 dude on the court humble god fearing family man off the court
Also had an irregular heartbeat detected at a young age, which required medication before each game.
The sixth man award should be named the Bobby Jones sixth man award
Humble guy who I remember well when he played in philly. God fearing NBA all star. Congratulations Bobby Jones and thanks for what you did while playing for the 76ers.
Love this guy!!!
Love bobby jones big part of why the Sixers had great defenses during that era not too many players make it to the hall for defense bobby jones deserves to be there always a Sixer for life GO SIXERS !!!!!!!
Go Sixers but not this generation of Sixers LOL I can't see them winning in the next 10 years
@@1990758, guess again.
I loved to see this great act PLAY!!! Congrats BOBBY! God bless you🙏🏿
Huge fan of Bobby Jones, who started as a Nugget.
Bobby Jones aka " White Lightning" him and James Worthy are equally the best 2 finishers on the break I've ever seen. And they knew how to finish STRONG.Bobby and Mo Cheeks are the 2 unsung heroes of that championship Sixers team. Both played both ends of the floor, rarely made mistakes and were great teammates.Glad I grew up watching them play.Bobby always a gentleman.
Sooo glad for Bobby such a great man those of us who had the pleasure to see him he was and is a blessing one of my all time favorite players inspiring person of faith .
For those that watched him, he was truly one of the *Greats*!
Class, through an through, on an off the court. A lot of things he did that are not in the stat books is why he was so successful in Denver and Philadelphia!
You'd have to have played and understood the game to know what I'm talking about!
Certainly Deserving of this honor! When you think about Bobby's *Complete Game* you knew he was destined and sure to be inducted after his Stellar Career.....
Think about it? Bobby played with Skywalker and Doc! Yes, what a career!
Bobby Jones was a real class act.. he is the reason why I always wore #24 as a player. True Christian athlete and role model for me.
Can't stop crying. You see him and you see a true man of God.
As a kid when I played I was always Bobby Jones. He was the most unassuming badass on the court.
You know Julius loved this man, and rightly so, passion, beauty, majesty--Julius and Bobby.
That championship Sixers team is one of the best teams to ever exist.
Pure class, what a great human being
Such a great an underrated player!
Awesome player, Awesome human being
Thank you B.J
What a gracious speech from a classy gentleman and great player! Well deserved! +++
You really want to know how valuable Bobby was? Ask his teammates ... Also, check in with Bobby’s assignments each night. He out played them! I’m very happy to see this ... Congratulations Bobby you earned it.
When I got the opportunity to watch Sixers basketball living in Los Angeles in the early '80s, I got to see Julius Erving do all the things I saw him do when I was living in New York in the mid-'70s and he was a New Jersey Net. Watching the Doctor exposed me to Bobby Jones, who showed me more about defense than any player I'd ever seen or will see. He was long, lean, and would literally appear out of nowhere with a contest or a block. Even more so, watching him guard the player with the ball was a clinic on how to deny passing lanes and limit movement. I embraced the Sixers because of Dr. J. I respected the Sixers because of Bobby Jones. Even today, the Sixers have a very special place in my heart. Well-deserved honor, Mr. Jones, and thank you...
Bobby Jones , one of the great nba player Ive known when i started watching nba. he's a smooth operator. and a tough one too. glad he's in the hall of fame
Very refreshing and humble speech. This man was always seemingly overshadowed by the great talent he played with and against, both in college and in the NBA.
So amazing. Humble and appreciative. True gentleman!
Great Team player with Amazing defense and a finisher at the Rim off a fast break. Most important of all a Outstanding person %100 .
Young heads just don't know. Bobby Jones was legit.
Bobby Jones the FAMER!!!!! All the Philly love in the world to you BJ and congrats!!!!
A HOF speech with respect to the officials. Wow.
what a humble, god-fearing, spiritual just plain nice man and human being. he was a classic villain type in the Celtics-Sixers wars of the 80's to me being a Celtics fan. I never knew what a beautiful human being he was. Probably better that i didn't know back then. God bless Bobby Jones. he was a tenacious defender and good wingman on those sixer teams. The hall of fame is richer and better with his presence. Much deserved.
I never knew of him until today. His highlights are incredible. Congratulations to him and GOD bless Mr. Jones.
Bobby Jones Basketball Camp was the greatest thing to go to in Charlotte in the early 90's. Bobby would be there and would actually help with the defensive drills. We had special guest Henrik Rödl one year, Todd Fuller another year. It was a blast. Thank you Bobby!
Bobby could guard anyone and was a great finisher on the break
What a great human being, God bless Bobby.
Mr. Jones was superb basketball player and will be playing for Gods team when he passes on.... Amen.
Bobby!!! I am happy for U. Perfect teammate. Run jump shoot rebound great on the break defense offense SELFLESS PLAYER!!!
Love love love that guy. Smooth operator. Listening to the respect he gets from those who played with and against him tells you all you need to know.
Loved he sent a shout out to as he called him the great Andrew Toney !
My favorite basketball player of all time!
pure class.. what a player.
Bobby Jones was a great defender and finisher on the fast break. He was tremendous with shooting the ball with either hand.He was a good shot blocker too.A complete player with all around game!
A diehard Laker fan during those great years. Living in Philly was tough on a Laker fan at times. Always had respect and admiration for Erving and Bobby Jones. The way they worked together and carried themselves. They are men.
I love ya' Bobby! Watching you and Erving was the best of my NBA,
TV viewing days. And I became much better because of you guys.
Man of faith . Great defender especially on the help side great finisher on the break .
Bobby Jones was one bad dude. A high flying player. Very exciting player
I am all teary-eyed sir. Thank you for the memories.
Class act!! And one of my all time favorite.
Bobby jones is so honest that if he cheated on a test. He tell the teacher he cheated and give hinself an F.
Lol
Yeah. 1 of a kind.

Absolutely man.
I hope Bobby and all of the 83' Sixers, know how how much they mean to their fans. I relive their triumph constantly.
Bobby Jones was a bad boy....all-around great player! His induction was long overdue.
Long overdue but well deserved! Congratulations to the Secretary of Defense! 🏀
Class act, God bless 🙏
I played basketball and Bobby Jones was one of my favorite
A humble giant !!!
My memory of Bobby Jones if you needed something to happen now Bobby Jones was your man whether it be defense or offense
Classic class act, he played as well as he is nice.
The perfect speech
He even thanked the refs.
Love Bobby
I loved that '83 Sixers team. Anytime things got stale or they needed a boost, Bobby Jones would deliver. Whether it was a steal, an assist, a blocked shot or a fast break dunk he always came through. He played on championship teams for the Denver Nuggets in the ABA and came to the Sixers in the merger along with Dr. J. I know it's already been said many times in the comments but it took way too long for the HOF to recognize his career. I thought for sometime it might not happen.
My favorite player of all time
Great player, great man. Will always be my favorite NBA player.
Dr J and Bobby Jones were book ends for some great 76ers teams believe me Bobby Jones game was very appreciated ....
Bobby Jones baby !! He would absolutely Dunk on you !!!
