    My garden in the sandy western Australia took 4 years to really get going...... It's now like a mini tropical rainforest with shade, water, and so many bugs which I like to watch..... Every house around me is either grass or concrete..... Bugs life mecca at my place..... So many lady bugs, pray mantis, different ant colonies, spiders, grass hoppers, snails, Slater's, lizards, butter flies breeding...... Wasn't here when it was just sandy soil. Where they all came from I don't know 🙏

    • @AlienIntervention1137
      @AlienIntervention1137 Před 3 měsíci

      @danielleedmondson3347 started with shade cloth over the garden ,, bury logs and charcoal under the soil , any food waste bury it in the garden , guinea pigs seemed to really help they like natural Gardner....... God I miss that garden moved don't have it anymore , I'm back to sand also ...... but coastal where it's even harder due to salt in the air . Good luck thanks 👍oh I also had a small pond man made that had fish with wire over the top

    I had a huge wild lettuce about 7 foot tall in my garden and I noticed it was loaded with aphids so I thought better to be on that then my veggies. I do like to plant an abundance of different plants together and I compost in place, meaning I dig a hole in my garden and fill it with kitchen scraps and cover it back over. I did this with my fig tree and the figs were popping out like popcorn, lol.

    Sweet Pete. I dont use any chem for bugs here. I have made homes for predatory insects. First year my annual garden looked like swamp, second year the bugs used it as a buffet. Since then i brought in predatory insects and fired the bug man.I sent too much of my life killing all of them end killing off wetlands, in the name of industry to put piers/docks across them. Luckily it has changed a lot and we went to wetland protection. But in order to help the situation I maintain predators. And now they are kinda just there. I havent bought any in a long time. By me not spraying all the bugs are here good and bad. And the good guys are winning

    I'm not a huge bug fan however, I LOVE Lady Bugs and Worms. Basic, perhaps but, that's my range. I've got way, way, way too many thousands of Anole lizards to have mantis or beetles. However, just by following the rules of Scorpio, the Phoenix, "Life from Death", I compost inside the ground. Leaves and mulch by the tons. I have been able to host Nightcrawler worms and large earthworms. For reason unknown to me, I have a superior number of lady bugs on everything. These are my focus and, "magically" they've both appeared and have stayed. Had a dude at a local bait shop call me a liar to my face, stating that "Nightcrawlers won't live here in zone 9B. 30 minutes, dead.". Well, no shithead. My secret is this: I bury tree logs in the ground, which is covered with 18" of free mulch from chipdrop. Then, oakleaves and pine needles. After that? Worms hang out, including the nightcrawlers just so long as I provide water 3x a week.

    Excellent & Very important video, Pete. I agree with his interpretation. Paul Stamets says the same about bug splatting windshields--we don't see that nearly as much anymore. Plant a high % of Natives ! And Everyone should get on the list to receive a BeeMushroomed Feeder once they are released. You can sign up on the Fungi Perfect website :)

    Thanks, Pete! Just like our friend, Jim Kovaleski, I'm a Mainiac, transplanted to the jungles of South West Arcadia, FL. The learning curve for planting in the sand is quiet a challenge compared to building soil on top of a granite ridge. Even though I don't like bugs in my living area, I am really missing them. Especially this year... there seems to be a terrible shortage of them! I have a slough down the entire north edge of my five acres and have seen every kind of wildlife, here, including a panther.... But almost no bugs! What will the mother birds feed their children!?

    The ants appear to be trying to take over here, plus they have gotten wise to the ant bait, now they just cover it up,or maybe the boric acid powder has gotten old, I don't know. Thanks Pete.

    Pete, I've heard that DI(diamatious earth) dusted on the plant's leaves & sprinkled around the base of the plant will kill off most or all of the an't problem in the garden. Is that true ?

    Any suggestions on locations in Florida to start a new garden?

      Depends what you are looking for. Are you looking for acres then south and east of Tampa have lots of land. I’m in the Tampa Area! If you want more urban, Tampa, St Pete, Sarasota
