Yeah, for me it was meant to be a bit of an open ending, wit ha slight bias towards kong. Maybe he did win, maybe he only won the battle, maybe he is high tailing after Godzilla mistook him for dead, maybe they just got tired and bored. If there isn't a body, you can't trust movie makers like that.

Third, I don't give a fuck what Toho said OUTSIDE THE MOVIE. They can be as assertive as they want outside the movie and it still won't change what is in the movie. And what is in the movie isn't as definitive as they want to say, and as you for some reason have a strong emotional attachment to it being. Take your life insecurities to a therapist, we ain't your parents.
Fourth, gtfo of the web and learn to talk with other people. It is okay to go outside, just keep your distance and wear a mask. Learn how to communicate like a half functional human, and then you're worth talking with.

According to writer Shinichi Sekizawa, whatever happened, Godzilla was knocked unconscious and remained so until the typhoon washed him ashore in "Mothra vs. Godzilla" (Sekizawa also used this concept for his unproduced sequel script, "Continuation: King Kong vs. Godzilla").
Hearing that King Kong was at one point more popular in Japan than Godzilla sounds downright unbelievable
I mean, Kong was a sympathetic character and Godzilla was still an allegory for the A bomb at this point as this was only his third film. So yeah, it actually does make sense for Japan to support the monke at this time if you look at the context.

@@dubuyajay9964 No, the point is that Godzilla was only 8 years old, while King Kong was already 29 years old. King Kong was much more established in people's minds than Godzilla, so at that time King Kong was still more popular, but it didn't take long for that to change.

I think it's fun to consider that Godzilla got far more fame thanks to a crossover with Kong, and the Monsterverse now has given a push to them both. Especially since it gave the first American movie where Kong doesn't die.
Fun Fact:
In KOTM original story, Gamera was supposed to be in this movie but ended up not being in the film. So technically Brandon's Joke about the "alternate ending" was what the future of the monsterverse was like if Gamera was in it.

Fun fact: They tried making a Godzilla vs. Batman movie, but the attempt failed and the movie got scrapped. Also, Godzilla fought Gamera in an ice skating show, but the footage is lost (only photos remain as proof of its existence).

At the end of the movie "Godzilla vs. Kong": Godzilla is ready to blast Kong with his atomic breath, Kong is ready to throw his axe but from outtanowhere Gamera appears and hits both with an RKO.
Well, it would be cool to actually see Gamera in the Monsterverse. At least the Kenny/Kendra of that film will be tolerable.
Gamera grabs Kong rko’s him snaps his neck blasts Godzilla does a back flip behind him rips of one of his dorsal fins and stabs him in the back with it then as Godzilla is on the ground gamera starts spinning and shoots his blast making i giant saw and grinds the saw into Godzilla’s back killing him just a theory

King Kong vs Godzilla is honestly the Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant of kaiju films. That match was arguably the biggest wrestling match in history but you can't call it one of the best. Same goes for this film.

King Kong was like Hulk Hogan...He wouldn't sell Godzilla's moves and he wouldn't take the loss. But even though Kong tried to kill Godzilla's push, fans got him over anyway.

This is what gets me about the ending, they contradict themselves three movies later. So Kong and Godzilla fall into the water, only Kong surfaces, so this means Kong won...fast forward to Godzilla vs Monster Zero, Godzilla, Rodan, and Ghidorah all fall into the water, Ghidorah surfaces and flies away yet this is still considered a victory for Godzilla and Rodan.
Ehhh... it's not the same thing, even though it seems like it is. In Japan, winning or losing is determined by if you accomplished the goal or not. It doesn't even matter to them if you're killed or not. What was Godzilla and Rodan's goal in "Monster Zero"? To expel Ghidorah from the earth. They accomplished that, so as far as the Japanese are concerned, Godzilla and Rodan won the battle.
What was Kong's goal in "King Kong vs. Godzilla"? To beat Godzilla's ass and go home. Kong did one and is doing the other at the end of the movie, so he won. So, it's not a contradiction as far as Japanese sensibilities (which, of course, these films are made for) are concerned.

Godzilla weak to electricity? Oh, kinda like how Jason Voorhees is terrified of water. XD
What's funny is that in 1962 godzilla was weak to electricity and in 1974 it gave him powers, and it's the exact same version of the character.
Godzilla being vulnerable to electricity would actually make sense, because as an aquatic creature, Godzilla’s skin probably contains a lot of moisture, which means it conducts electricity.

@@dubuyajay9964 I'm always up for voice action but based on what other CZcamsrs more successful than have shared, MIB is extremely selective about who comes onto his show and really hates it when names are recommended to him or when people request to do voice work, probably due to the popularity of his skits and the related feedback.

Honestly, unless there's a scene where Dr. Graham turns up alive, and pissed at everyone for leaving her in Antarctica, I think I'm sitting this one out. Still having PTSD flashbacks...
What?
It is kind of amusing how the new movie has some callbacks to this one. Like how this hints at an ancient battle between Godzilla and Kong, when that's a major plot point of the new one. There's a moment when Kong jams his axe handle down Godzilla's throat, which I found funny as a callback to the tree scene. You could even say that shocking Kong to restart his heart was a callback to the electrical powers in this movie. The new movie feels a lot like the "fun" era of kaiju films, where things didn't really have to make that much sense or be too serious, in the grand scheme of things the stakes in the new film are really low.
We need a Alien vs Godzilla and a Predator vs King Kong double feature 🤣

Personally I would've preferred the movie ending with Godzilla's decapitated head winking at the audience, indicating that neither side won.

I'd be interested to know your take on the Japanese cut over the American. The original cut's lack of the po-faced news scenes means there's more room for establishing the comedic characters so there's less of a juxtaposition. While you call the comedy "dated" it has an emphasis on manipulative advertising and short sighted corporate greed, which are pretty evergreen concepts.
There's also language barrier stuff: Mr Tako's name means "Octopus" in Japanese. Just as he sends his two men to mess with the island, an actual giant octopus does the same thing. A little bit more of the dry but absurd Japanese humour they love so much.
Wasn't the mustache guy a famous Japanese comedian and the two male leads a manzai sketch duo?
My understanding is it's also a heightened example of the "Salaryman comedy", a genre that was extremely popular in Japan but AFAIK never really exported. The movie plays with a bunch of tropes from that genre.
@@dubuyajay9964 Yes, Tadao Takashima and Yu Fujiki were the top stars of salaryman comedies as Suzanne mentioned. Ichiro Arishima was indeed also a famous comedian in Japan.

Last Saturday, I saw King Kong vs Godzilla on CZcams, and it's one of my favorite Godzilla movie of the 1960s.

Awesome follow-up. Like I said in "Part 1", this was the first "Godzilla" movie I had on VHS when I was a kid. Gonne need to re-watch this movie, as well as marathon the "Monsterverse" movies to prepare for the new movie, which I will NOT be streaming, but seeing in the Theater (hopefully).
Oh, gotta throw this one in again, just for the hell of it, "Do Not Go To Hokkaido!"

You've got to admit that it was a pretty cool idea to have these two in one movie. Yeah it wasn't great, but you know we might have had a completely different Godzilla franchise without this one. That's just my thoughts on it. Though here's hoping the new 2021 movie has some people pointing at maps scenes in it XD Also I want a burger now.

Agreed. It's corny & perfect Late Night Movie material, but it does have King Kong & Godzilla *and* it did wonders for Godzilla's movie franchise.
@@gabrielboorom6196 Did wonders for what? Its from the Showa era and ALOT of the Showa era movies are awful and written for children...This movie didn't do anything for Godzilla. By the time they ended the Showa era they had ended Godzilla movies until they decided to start making them again in the Heisei era and not aim them towards children with The Return of Godzilla/Godzilla 1984 which never mentioned it again and none of the 33 movies are direct sequels with except a small few. The only Showa era film any are tied to is the original 54 film
I'd be really curious to see your reaction to the Japanese version. It has some of the sharpest post-war satire I've seen in a Japanese comedy. It almost feels Young Frankenstein-esque at certain points.
"Oh man, I really gotta lay off the Soma" is particularly funny because Soma is a real drug, a muscle relaxer.

The Japanese version of this film is one of my personal favourites.
Awesome two parter dude this made me think about how far has Godzilla and the Kaiju franchise has come so far with where we’re at now again with Godzilla vs Kong. It’s definitely gonna be wonders to watch Godzilla and Kong together again on the big screen for sure.
