  • Today I review the Blue Encore 100i; which is a dynamic instrument microphone from blue. This microphone has a boosted low end and boosted high end. Simply put, if I were you, I wouldn’t buy this mic again.

    I actually have one in my possession that I'm trying out and I must agree with this review as I find the same findings on this mic. If I use this mic on a percussive instrument I'd have to play around the EQ's to make it just right. Thank you for doing this review.

    I wish that you could do a review with a AKG P5I, that mic is the unique compatible with HARMAN CONNECT PA
    I really wanna know if this one is a good ideia for buying, because is a little bit cheap and i never seen one

    It definitely sounds different than the 100. The low end of the I seems much more prominent. The graphs make no sense. Someone got lazy and thought no one will ever check. 🤣. Wrong!

    @The_Paya Před 5 lety +10

    I actually liked how this one sounded on the electric guitar, but the test was quite short (against others) so that's maybe why, as in, you probably heard more of it.
    Random suggestion:
    You should make a table/list with a score for each mic you've tested! Say, if someone was looking for the best "background noise rejection" mic, could sort the table by that score, click on the link to watch the videos and then pick (?)

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  Před 5 lety +4

      That's something that has been suggested to me many times. The reason I have not done it so far is the time it would take. That is something I need to do eventually though.

    I like all of the Blue mics but the 100i only works for Drum toms and Snare the V shape tone curve is perfect for those things but otherwise it makes everything sound like a scooped mids guitar amp.

    hi guys ..would you use the 100i to mic up a djembe drum ??? thanx

  • @divine_architek
    @divine_architek Před 4 lety

    So one thing is that each microphone, unless said to be a matched pair can differ vastly from one to another even if they are the same mic. Even if they are the exact same model, it is impossible to have 2 sound perfectly the same as each electronic component can differ. This could be why the freq response chart from both the 100 and the 100i are exactly the same. A matched pair of mics can have on average up to a 3dB difference from each other to be considered a matched pair. And Neumann, being the German Lunatics they are, design all their mics to have only up to a 1dB difference from each other on every single one of their mics.

  • @nic0psy

    This sounds like any broadcast mic, maybe this is ideal for low budget radios. With little adjustments, plosives wouldn’t be a problem.

  • @insanejughead
    @insanejughead Před 5 lety +3

    I like the sound of it. I scrape out the mids of everything I listen to.
    Excuse me while I blast the boosted lows and accentuated highs of Cemetery Gates right now.

  • @Kragatar
    @Kragatar Před 5 lety +1

    It's weird how different that mic sounds for you. When Booth Junkie compared it side-by-side with the SM58, they sounded practically identical. Inconsistent manufacturing perhaps?
    Also, I caught that Rush Hour reference. :-)

    Since it is an instrument mic, I'm not sure the plosive and proximity issue is how it should be judged. I appreciate the opinion on its use as an instrument mic.

  • @Dallen9
    @Dallen9 Před 5 lety +1

    your ears could be broken or they compensated for the way the cage on the Blue 100 acts on the capsule and didn't adjust for for the 100i. I.e. they're fundamentally the same besides how the cages are made.

      SoyAlex!! A dynamic mic, if you can get to an audio store go and check some out and see which ones work well with your voice, it’s very subjective.

  • @zezesilver
    @zezesilver Před 5 lety

    well it seems that logitech has discontinued the encore series. this microphone, which secretly performs better for vocals, has been a sort of hidden gem in the mic industry. despite what bandrew said, it sounds amazing when compared to any dynamic shure, senheisser or akg. go to ebay and grab one before it becomes the next samson cs, which currently sells at $6935 on amazon.

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  Před 5 lety +1

      I have said that the Encore 100 is a great mic, and have recommended it to many people. Especially when it was on sale for (2) for $100, or whatever the sale is. The encore 100i on the other hand, I don't think it's too good for vocals.

    • @zezesilver
      @zezesilver Před 5 lety

      Podcastage that's because you were sold what seems to be a later edition of the 100i. notice that the vented ring around the grill of your mic is black when orinally it is gray. this means that the microphone was manufactured differently than it used to, which may explain the change of tone. the box is also slightly different and it used to come with a damn sticker XD
