"Just make a good RPG".... "NOTIFICIATION: ✅Arlo added you as a friend !"
Thousand Year Door was the game that showed me the potential of video game writing. I was a youngster, and even then I realized this game's writing was a cut above the rest. So witty, so organic, and hilarious. It helps that it's also very fun to play, of course.
The only Nintendo game I can think of that rivals Thousand Year Door’s Writing is Kid Icarus Uprising. That literally it. So excited to replay this game
For story writing, Xenoblade games have better story obviously.
@@Terranigma23 Maybe the later games. I can't say 1 has that great of a story. It is rather... flawed. I don't think I've ever seen a more obvious plot twist.
@@ryan20028But saying it's worse than TTYD writing is a stretch. Also, having an obvious twist doesn't make a story bad. It still had great presentation and pacing.
The mario and luigi games have amazing stories. Not as deep necessarily but amazing and fun and hilarious.
Yeah I could see it being on par with Kid icarus. Super paper mario also slightly beats ttyds story in my opinion. And then Xenoblade of course and maybe some Fire emblems. Other than that it's better than any other nintendo game storywise in my opinion.
Thousand-Year is one those games that really defines the Gamecube era. The others being Luigi's Mansion, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime and etc.
I feel the difference between the paper related puzzles in thousand year door and the other games is, the characters in thousand year door, aren't aware that they're made of paper, (aside from a certain chest...) it's only really something the player understands.
Mean while in later entries, we have bosses that are quiet literally pieces of stationary, and everyone in the game world Is aware that they are all just paper.
In the original Paper Mario and TTYD, the paper stuff is definitely just an art style choice outside of visual gags and one or two throwaway lines from NPCs, and even then it's pretty subtle ("Look at you, you're as thin as a wafer!" says one Toad in Poshley Heights). Super Paper Mario made no mention of or reference to paper besides as much was needed for association with the series.
It is shoved into your face _constantly_ from Sticker Star onward and it got pretty irritating after a while, especially because they're what replaced the compelling stories that are already pretty rare in Mario games.
The chest isn't paper either...he turns mario INTO paper and it's meant to be not the norm of the world...which shows how clever ttyd was with adding paper gimmicks. They built it into the lore to make sense instead of just making it "the world is just literally paper because paper haha".
So in conclusion Mario in TTYD (and everyone else) are not actually paper...he gets cursed to turn into paper for brief moments.
The way SPM is completely ignored and only talked about as if it's no different from Sticker Star onward really irks me... it still has a LOT of the elements they're claiming were completely lost after TTYD. I'd even say most, and it goes even harder in some of those areas. I feel like they were namedropping SPM while remembering nothing about it and only thinking of Sticker Star & its successors. Which bothers me immensely as someone who loved SPM to death for the very same reasons I can't stand modern Paper Mario.
@@fawfulthegreat64 you wanna talk about Super Paper Mario?
I absolutely adore that game.
I'll be frank, I'm quietly waiting for at least an upresed port of it.
The only reason I feel the game is in a gray area for fans is due to the drastically different gameplay. Which, fair point, understandable. But that absolutely does not make it a bad game. It just threw the fan base for a loop, but for me, when I played it at like 7 years old, it more easily introduced me to that style of game story, and in turn made me more easily get into thousand year door with no prior turn base RPG game experience.
I honestly feel like right NOW, when we have 2 critically acclaimed Mario turn base RPG remakes coming out in the same year, this is the time that a remake or port of Super Paper Mario would not make people upset. Because they're literally getting what they wanted, and here is something different for people who aren't ready for a turn based RPG yet and are more comfortable with just platforming.
Also personally, Super Paper Marios art style, which I would describe as Digital Art, I also much more enjoy than modern paper Mario games art styles. What made the original games enjoyable art wise was it's simplicity and ease of readability. It's simple, there's not the white edges of paper sticking out. It's just, 2D art. Wonderful 2D art, and that's all it has to be. That's what made it approachable, enjoyable, and memorable for me.
I'm okay with paper puns like that, where characters are aware they are made of paper, but the main flaw is that this gag is used so many times that the player is compelled to think so much about it to the point that they start thinking through the implications of how this world exists. It raises questions, questions that the game has no interest in answering. What is this paper world? What is its creation story? Does anyone have existential crises knowing they are all paper and not real? And where is the real Mario, Peach, Bowser, and Mushroom Kingdom? Are they part of the same world? These never touched on questions wouldn't be so bad if every other joke in the game didn't make you think about it. It's good for a gag or two on occasion, but too many times creates a problem. Your attention and thoughts are directed in a particular direction constantly, and it doesn't make sense within the world without that actual context. It just creates confusion that's more frustrating than anything else.
I really hope this game sells well because I would love a new paper mario game that's a spiritual successor to the thousand year door
TTYD definitely looks more like a remake than a remaster.
Look at Twilight Princess HD and then Twilight Princess on the GameCube.
Same with Mario Sunshine on 3D All Stars and on the GameCube.
You could see the new version and pretty much mistake it for the original, as it's the same exact thing but running on a new console.
Compared to TTYD, every single model in TTYD has been changed, along with remixes of every song, all new textures, etc.
There's also been a newly designed Toad spotted in one of the trailers, which means that they're definitely adding SOME stuff.
yeah because it is a remake
38:25 Kit, there's an indie game that is basically a spiritual sequel to TTYD called Bugfables: The Everlasting Sapling. That game reminds me of TTYD a lot, give it a try if you want, it's only $20.
The best thing you can do for reviews is find specific reviews (an individual not the company the represent) who’s opinions you tend to agree with. Reviews are inherently based on opinion so instead of trying to find the least biased reviewer, it’s in your interest to find someone who has similar biases to you
Krysta nailed it, what we like so much about TTYD is that it's actually a good story, a good RPG with good writing and characters.
Yet she didn't even seem to remember that SPM kept most of that, all it changed was the gameplay but they talked about SPM as if it's guilty of all the paper-focused status-quo-obsessed painfully vanilla pitfalls of the Sticker Star trilogy. When it's really not. In fact I'd say it's even more focused on being weird, bucking the status quo and having an insanely ambitious plot than TTYD. Something I don't say lightly btw.
@@fawfulthegreat64 I mean sure, but SPM was responsible for being the first one to heavily strip down the RPG elements, turning the experience into more of an action-adventure game with light RPG mechanics. The plot was interesting sure, but it only went downhill from there.
@@fawfulthegreat64no they didn’t in fact Kit talked about how Super was the last one he liked
1:07:41 make sure to try Kirby Super Star Ultra on DS! It was a great updated port!
I love just how realistic Krysta is, obviously now having not got nintendo hiding or critically analysing their content…
“The lag, imagine the lag”… so realistic and recognises instantly.. kit like “no nno nono it didnt happen” … the whole world nodding and agreeing..
The first two Paper Mario games were JRPGs
The third Paper Mario game was a story driven, 2-D platformer
The remaining Paper Mario games are "paper gimmick" puzzle games
Super Paper Mario was a platformer RPG hybrid, but yes very story driven.
The way they talked about it you'd think it was one of the paper gimmick games with light story. I really don't think they are remembering SPM accurately.
@@fawfulthegreat64 Exactly what I was thinking
I laughed when you threw sticker star is the 3DS collection video!😂 love u guys!! I’m hyped for this game!! I’m looking forward to more collection video
Thousand-Year Door is the Majora's Mask of Paper Mario. It's a dark theme, deep stories and builds on the original. However, while Majora's Mask is a light Action RPG, Thousand-Year Door bets all-in in the RPG aspect of it with turn-based combat, while also seeding puzzles and rewarding exploration. Each zone is blatantly unique visually, and while the combat is pretty much straightforward from start to finish, allies opens up a whole other level of combat AND puzzle solving. It isn't deeply puzzling like modern games. Most of the time, the solution is basically linked to the last companion or move you unlocked, and backtracking is mostly centered in one subzone/hub, like the Castle in Mario 64 or Gruntilda's Lair in Banjo-Kazooie. You don't have to go back to a completed chapter/zone otherwise, but might have some bonuses for doing so, rewarding exploration and memory without penalizing a casual playthrough...
However, Thousand-Year Door was the first game I experienced that actually rewarded me even more for being that kind of player, that goes back to completed zones to explore or just revisit NPCs to see where they are now that their world is saved and/or life changed. The optional rewards aren't necessary to beat the game. But they were necessary to reach my first, ever, "True" Ending.
I love this game for the boundaries it pushes with Mario. The darker themes, the marvellous humour, the rich and cohesive story, the plethora of unique characters and locations....and of course the wonderful gameplay. But overall, this game represents what I want to see Mario do more. Take risks that pay off and be unafraid of being more dark or serious.
Music of course is also amazing and memorable! But that's not surprising, considering it's a Nintendo game.
Here’s two games that feel like thousand year door. Bug fables and born of bread so check out those two games they both to me feel like the thousand year door
And outbound ghost tell they got rid of it on the switch shop
The Paper Mario renaissance is upon us. I honestly can't believe it still.
You got me hyped on this now too!
1:32:26 did y'all know there's DLC coming to Price of Persia? They're keeping that game alive
I played the original Paper Mario for the first time recently and loved it, so I'm rather looking forward to playing The Thousand-Year Door (for the first time) too :D
Best way to play that Star Wars game is with the Ubisoft pass thing for less than $20 and cancel the subscription right after.
No, it's a remake. All the assets are new, they remade them. A remaster is taking the same assets and updating textures and sometimes the sounds and osts.
Love you two ty for all the great content
Loved the chat about TTYD! I am also like Kit and have never played it, now I am super excited to try it in a few weeks time!! Thanks for another awesome episode.
41:24. It's neither a remake or remaster. It's a refold.
You guys are super likable! ❤
If Kit brings in his games, Krysta's gotta bring in the Rhythm heaven game "he gave her"!!! 😂
I really think you guys would love Earthbound for the same reasons you love Thousand Year Door. It's such a silly, charming, funny game with dark and thoughtful moments. The dialogue is gold standard, the 4th wall breaks are the best I've ever witnessed and the whole experience has become my favourite game of all time. I also played this as a 20 year old so I'm not nostalgia blinded!
I know you briefly played on Nintendo Minute but its so worth playing all the way through, you won't regret it!
I am so excited for people who haven't played TTYD to finally play it. I adore this game so much. It improves on so many things from the first Paper Mario and it's written so well. I'm not talking about deep philosophical stuff, but it just makes me laugh at the most dumbest things ever.
One of my favorite item descriptions is the Coconut. It reads: "Fruit from a tropical island. To be honest, it ain't tasty!".
Hey, so, regarding the Toad chalk-outline, that doesn't actually mean the victim died -- it actually means the victim was alive at the scene of the crime and was transported to the hospital, but they drew the outline around the victim to investigate the position of the victim "in situ," especially if the victim dies later on and the investigation shifts to homicide. So there's a chance the toad lived!
Have about ten to twelve 3DS games. Zelda ocarina of time, majoras mask, and star fox 64 3D. These are definitive versions of these classics. Best way to play these are on 3DS
Great episode, you two! I’m looking forward to your Chrono Trigger talk. Classic game.
Thank you for answering my question on what Nintendo ip that skipped a new entry this gen, would you like to see next time around, from the 1:52:08 - 1:53:41 mark.
Here’s to Donkey Kong and Pushmo…as well as Star Fox. 😁
Going back to the first question. Where it went wrong is that Super mario switched gameplay styles because Nintendo now had another mario RPG series: Mario & Luigi. And it seems like they didn't want to have 2 mario series in the same genre competing against eachother.
Therefore they forced Super Paper Mario to be a platformer with a story and do away with most RPG gameplay.
After that didn't entirely work out, instead of going back to what worked, it looks like they still wanted to avoid having Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario to compete with eachother. So they seemed to have envisioned paper mario as a lighter, more simple kind of RPG-like series. They specifically seemed to want to avoid having leveling mechanics. And they kept trying to push this through color splash and origami king.
And you know what? I think the timing of the RPG remakes is a bit suspicious: The company that made the mario & luigi series is out of business and the last attempt at making paper mario a dumbed down RPG experience also didn't entirely work out. There has also been the outrage after certain limitations from nintendo were revealed in the infamous interview after the last modern paper mario.
I think this combination of factors has lead Nintendo to re-evaluate their stance on paper mario. After all, since the mario & luigi series is now dead, there's an opening for a mario RPG series again.
Honestly Ubisoft deserves heat for how they handled The Crew alone, they've gone the way of EA while doing unprecedent anti-consumer things, and starting to have the scummiest video game models in the industry.
I had a gamecube but never played paper mario thousand year door. So this will be a fresh new game for me. So looking forward to it. 😊❤
Only two other dark Nintendo games out there would have to be Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess
Great episode yall! I am so psyched for the TTYD remake, and ESPECIALLY to see reactions from first time experiencers.
Grubb said Cena is notorious for just posting random things.
I wish they did a Paper Luigi and we actually got his crazy adventure as a game and Mario would make the cameo and tell us his TTYD adventure (which the players will have played). I always thought that when I first played TTYD back in the day.
Still have my new 2DS XL and new 3DS Galaxy style . Still play them. 3DS is still an awesome system.
You don’t have to change everything for it to be a remake, FF7 is bad example of remake it’s more of a reimagined version. In a survey they called it a remake and things have definitely been changed and redone. Luigi’s Mansion HD is a remaster
Nintendo games not dropping in price is why I wait to buy some.
I love the game for the battle mechanics
A fun activity is to look up Mario Party review scores 😂
TTYD had a pretty good story, but I wouldn't say it has the best Nintendo story. Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, and Kid Icarus Uprising exists.
probably the best story in the mario series anyway
@@markasscopsuper paper Mario thooo..
I thought the original Paper Mario for the N64 was also good. It started the Paper Mario series with an traditional RPG format then TTYD extended upon it. Had a good time playing both of those games.
As far as what Krysta was saying about "paper" becoming overall focused on in newer games, the general consensus from 64/TTYD fans is that the older games had paper as largely an aesthetic choice. The games are supposed to feel like pop-up books. 64 barely has anything that uses the paper as a gimmick (none of them gameplay or story relevant), and TTYD has some gameplay-related things (abilities you get from the Black Chest, some partner abilities like Flurrie's blowing walls away to reveal secrets, etc)...but it's not a huge focus. I think the most meta thing in the game is the TTYD live studio audience, and even that you don't really think about that most of the time. It doesn't take away from the stakes of what's happening in the game.
Newer games are extremely meta about it. Sticker mechanics, NPCs getting the color sucked out of them and you needing to repaint them, 3D objects falling from the "real world", the bosses from TOK being sentient 3D office supplies, the villain of TOK wanting to explicitly turn people into origami, etc. This is a lot of very meta stuff that affects the how the plot feels, where the old games (64, TTYD, Super) feel like actual adventures with real stakes, whereas SS, CS, TOK feel more like the plot is kinda a big meme. Old games are a reflection of the actual Mario world, whereas newer games are a fake paper world.
Finally someone acknowledges Super is one of the classic games. Bothered me so much that they only talked about these gripes as applying to "all games after TTYD," and never acknowledging what SPM still had, only ever mentioning it as the beginning of the bad era. Unless the subject came up again later in the video, I haven't watched the whole thing but the first discussion of it was actually kind of painful as a diehard SPM fan who considers it the last game in the classic Paper Mario trilogy. I really think Krysta should give SPM another chance because I think she's associating its name with the issues that began in Sticker Star. Kit should play it too. TTYD is the closest thing to a perfect Paper Mario game, but SPM goes even harder with a lot of the plot related things and I think it deserves credit for that.
Agree wholeheartedly with your take on the differences between the two trilogies btw. I'm a firm believer in PM being two trilogies and NOT two real entries + four misses.
Could John Sena play Ganondorf in the Zelda movie?
How much the game is changed isn't what determines if it is a remake or not. A remake is by definition, made again, as in rebuilt mostly or entitely from scratch.
A remaster is prettied up but is built on the original code. So if they ported TTYD into a new engine and then redid the visuals, it's a remaster. If they rebuilt the game from scratch, it's a remake. Both of those could look superficially identical.
7:40
Remember the answer of Krysta and after watch the 3DS collection showcase, she has one to throw to the trash.
Although, it's for a good reason. 😂
I think as far as "remaster vs remake"...to me, it's "did they basically rebuild the game from the ground-up?" Crash N. Sane Trilogy largely plays like the original and keeps faithful level design, but all the levels were completely rebuilt. It's not like they took the original level design and put a shiny new coat of paint on it. I don't even think it was possible due to a lot of the old assets being not usable. Or, SMRPG Remake. It is, again, extremely faithful to the original game, even emulating the style of the old pseudo-3D sprites with the new chibi 3D models. But the game was clearly built from the ground-up. I think that's what's happening here with TTYD, but it's hard to tell. Maybe in reality it is a high-effort remaster with the Gamecube game at its core, but there are a lot of subtle changes that suggest to me that's not the case.
In Paper Mario TTYD's case, it's kinda hard to tell, because even if you remade it from scratch, stylistically it's going to look a lot like the Gamecube version with better graphics. It's either "a remake" or a "really high effort big boy remaster". Like if we consider "The Last of Us Part 1" a remake (which, I don't, I'd consider that a relatively high-effort remaster), then TTYD is at least above that, from what I can see.
I'm still watching, but I am glad this remake is being made so the Fandom can calm down. I didn't play TTYD but I have watched many playthroughs. I enjoyed color splash and origami king, so I'm giving TTYD a try, but I have a feeling I won't finish because rpgs are usually hard for me to finish.
I think John Cena would make a good Goron voice actor.
15:22 Vivian was bullied for Transitioning from a man to a woman and her sister were misgendering her in the Japanese French and Spanish versions
I don’t think Nintendo will keep it in 1000 year door due to insensitivity but it is one of Nintendo Not sensitive type of humor that would not fly nowadays
Vivian is a girl and it’s not right to label someone wrong
Prince Of Persia The Lost Crown really is great! Its sad that it underperformed. Its pretty fun, good story, interesting world to explore, and runs great on switch! Took some inspiration from Metroid Dread, which is a good thing! But it has some interesting accessibility features too, like the option for fully customizable difficulty.
Its the kind of game we all say we want Ubisoft to make!
I liked it a lot, and I look forward to the DLC.
Did it underperform though? I think I saw it re-enter the UK top 10 recently, I don’t think anyone was expecting it to be a huge blockbuster.
@@Umbrella2 That's what I read on Google. I looked it up after I beat it. Supposedly it only sold around 300k copies.
It was criticaly well recieved, but I don't think there was a lot of hype for it. I was even skeptical about it. Anyway, I had a great time with it, and I hear its on sale now.
So Kit's first question and the following discussion bothered me because of how SPM was mentioned as the point the series "went wrong" but then none of the actual criticisms cited apply to it at all, except for the shift in gameplay.
Ah yes, nothing screams "shoehorning in paper elements and checking every status quo box for a basic Nintendo game" like a Mario story about doom prophecies, the end of all worlds, and with heavy themes of love, loss and sacrifice, where you go to weird abstract dimensions, the main villain has a tragic Romeo and Juliet-inspired backstory, and you fight a brainwashed Luigi who pilots a mech that looks like his head. It sounds like you said "Super Paper Mario" but thought about Sticker Star and onward. You should go back and replay SPM, it's none of the things you seem to associate with it. Outside the gameplay which is different. But story and tone-wise it actually doubles down on many of the things that made TTYD great. Many of the things you claim were never there after TTYD. But it really sounds like you are not remembering SPM accurately at all. No offense.
I think John Cena would make a great Goron. Idk how more people aren't saying that lol
I've also never played TTYD. I'm going to get it based on this video though. You've really sold me on it, Krysta. Good job! It's almost like you have experience marketing Nintendo games! 😂😉
Also, yes. Justice 4 Europe!
You can play the game in HD at 60fps right now. In Dolphin.
See games that are very expensive to buy retro SHOULD get a digital copy for sure.
100% gonna support this remake and buy it. Now bring us a Skies of Arcadia remaster/remake SEGA- get on it!
Paper Mario TTYD is my favorite game of all time. After more than 10 years of disappointment, I'm so glad that Nintendo finally listened and gave up this legendary game!
nintendo should just start doing their spaceworld again :)
Apparently TTYD is currently sold out on Amazon. I'm so happy, everyone needs to experience this masterpiece.
It's _not_ sold out on Amazon, what's really happening is every single order got canceled and it's being listed as unavailable. I know because I pre-ordered it there and they canceled mine behind my back, and the way I found out was everyone complaining about Amazon canceling their pre-orders.
If you or anyone reading this wants to pre-order the physical version of the game I'd strongly suggest looking for other retailers that have it!
@@BlueAizu_ Oh, didn't know about the amazon situation. That's messed up.. (I've already preordered it from mynintendo btw)
@@BlueAizu_ Oh, didn’t know about the Amazon situation. That’s messed up.. (I preordered it from mynintendo)
@@BlueAizu_No, every single Amazon preorder didn't get cancelled, only SOME customers orders got cancelled, and it was because Amazon simply did not anticipate this much of a high wave of preorders for Paper Mario TTYD. Yes, they ordered thousands upon thousands of copies, but they (selectively) cancelled certain preorders that they wouldn't have been able to fulfill due to a low inventory that was the result of an underestimation.
Anyhow, the game IS indeed sold out at Amazon either way, BUT as you correctly stated, there are plenty of other retailers that has PLENTY of physical copies in stock available for preorders, retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, and so forth. The sales of this game is going to be monumentally shocking and amazing. Paper Mario TTYD has already been preordered for me as well, and this is coming from someone that's an existing Paper Mario TTYD player/fan.
@@Enigmaculate When I said _all_ of the preorders were canceled, I meant _all_ of them. Preorders for digital codes are also unavailable. If it was just the physical preorders having inventory shortages I'd understand. I wouldn't like it and I'd still take my business elsewhere (and I did the instant I found out), but I'd at least understand. No, it just straight up isn't available at all in either format.
I'm hoping I get proven wrong and they get it sorted out in the end, TTYD being sabotaged like this is the last thing I want!
I hope Andre or Tris of GameXplain does a full game streamed playthrough playlist of TTYD remake on YT starting day at 7:00 PM east time every day till the game is finished without playing the game and without getting new info of the game before the streams the streams would be best for us if Andre/Tris finds things first time with us in the streams 'this is a game I won't get play but would like watching GameXplain live-stream like Derrick Bitnerd did for the Paper Mario games before he left GameXplain and put his playlists on his YT channel Bitnerd Games.'

TTYD has better writing than the Xenoblade trilogy, Fire Emblem games (Awakening, Three Houses, etc.), Zelda games (Ocarina, Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, etc.), etc..? Highly doubt it
Three houses was the game that got me to stop playing FE games. Three houses had a pretty... middling, I'll say, story in my personal opinion? It was on par with the average shonen anime and didn't handle topics of race on the best way. Besides that I played Conquest and another modern FE game who's name I can't remember. I was never impressed with the writing in the series. Not saying this to crap on your tastes or say you're wrong, just honestly asking what you liked about the games' stories? I'm legit curious.
@@jellojiggler1693I thought the characters and worldbuilding were both incredibly good in Three Houses, but the plot fumbles quite a bit, especially in the second half. Fates is a complete mess. Some of the older FE games have really great stories, especially Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.
Mario RPG absolutely is a remake
I'm begging you to be better educated
openFPGA is your friend my dude
The outline of the toad was in the us version I thought
I think its there but in the Jp version, it also has a puddle of blood
I absolutely LOVED Super Paper Mario… all the hate it gets makes me sad
Especially since in this case they're essentially lumping it with Sticker Star and talking about everything post-TTYD as one group with the same criticisms... focusing on the lack of darker & more creative stories which is just objectively false for SPM. SPM not only was probably the LEAST paper-focused game, but also had the most ambitious story in not just Paper Mario but the Mario series in general. It's guilty of basically none of the things they're generalizing everything after TTYD to be guilty of.
If a like streams of games Darby of Blue Television Games is family friendly he has 624k YT subs 'he said his goal is a million subs' both him and his wife 'who has been in live-streams' is nice and he shows his pets including a dog named Yoshi and a dog named Goomba he posts his streams/vids on both Facebook/Twitter his Sundays streams are at the same time as Church time here in east USA which makes it so I can't watch them but his Tuesdays streams is at 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM and the people in his streams is really nice they even gift others a membership to BTG something Darby himself has did.
Ubisoft's crappy practices makes everyone hate them and so when they actually make a great game like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, people don't rush out to support those games.
Speaking of gamers moving on quickly from something, how bout that super Mario wonder, eh? 🤣 Safe to say there won't be a sequel to that thing lolol
Imagine being so braindead that you truly think there won't be a sequel to a Super Mario game
Imagine saying there won't be a sequel to a Super Mario game and thinking you made a meaningful inference lmao
I think it's worth mentioning that one thing this game definitely does NOT do better than the newer Paper Mario games is the level design. A lot of TTYD's chapters while they are a great narrative experience, the exploration you do in them is just navigating a bunch of straight hallways, whereas Color Splash and Origami King feel more like proper 3D adventure games where you are going around all over the place searching for collectibles and trying to figure out the way to progress.
Kit not watching fallout and sayjng people should watch Han Solo movie is why people should listen to this podcast. You never know the hot takes they can throw at you.
I think trans people will survive if Vivian is represented as a female as she was intended but to each their own
I'm a Nintendo fan not shill or fanboy and will not buy if it runs at 30fps. Sorry, but I'm not paying for the same game now with worse gameplay experience than I had way back on Gamecube :-)
It might have new content and who cares about 30fps
@@vincentbranciforte9832 Gameplay matters as its the No 1 factor in playing games :-)
Tonally, I'd say the most comparable game to Thousand Year Door for me would be Mother 3.
Mother 3 is super dark, and it'll make you cry, but it's hilarious. I really do wish Nintendo could give it another chance.
Vivian is a character that needs an update in the way the writing treated her, both in the English and Japanese versions. The English versions did erase her being trans as most know, but the original Japanese script also portrayed her as being "a boy who looks like a girl," described as such by not only her abusive sisters, but even Goombella. And I think nowadays, in a world where games like Guilty Gear can have canon trans characters, where Disney and Netflix are making cartoons with trans characters in the main cast, where Japanese kids are seeing non-binary heroes in Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, Nintendo's gonna want to portray Vivian in a more sensitive way than they did back in 2004.
Yeah they went way to gimmick heavy. And a lot of the zany and wild push story wise. Fell into Mario & Luigi series. Which I adore and love but, paper Mario is and always is a RPG and I loved this one.
Ff7 """remake""" is a sequel and shouldn't be in any light be seen as a standard for remakes 🤢
Oh absolutely critics are easier on Nintendo games than other games. Like the Princess Peach game getting the "Oh its a great starter game for kids" pass. Its like what?? Lol Games for kids can be difficult and still be really good. Look at Super Mario Bros 3, very difficult for a kid but still 10/10 fun. Why are we suddenly moving the goal post for this patticular game/company?
Not only that but critics are also incentivized to give games like Nintendos higher scores so that they stay on their good side. Thats why usually outlets like IGN the lowest theyll give is a 6 if its bad.
I mean, Kirby has always had a reputation for being easy, but Return to Dreamland is an all-time classic. Easy and excellent aren't exclusive.
This has been tried to be proven for decades and has never successfully been proven. Because you have to realize something, even the worst Nintendo game still is more sound on a game design level than 99% of other video games, and that often makes up the majority of game critics criteria.
Also, not a correct usage of the phrase "moving the goalposts"
Krysta!! I didn’t know this was a spoiler cast! Vivian joining the team is a huge spoiler and plot twist because she’s literally a villain for half the game. I’m so bummed you spoiled Kit on that and everyone watching that’s about to play this game for the first time 😭
It's a 20 year game 💀 and it's minor part of the game with many details surrounding that part of the game kept quiet besides...
@@SkytheFatalis They're literally doing an entire spoiler cast on Chrono Trigger, which is almost 30 years old... Game doesn't have to be new for you to be able to spoil it for someone who's never played it (like Kit). And It's definitely not a minor part of the game. There's an entire chapter dedicated to it.
@@Flareboxx Vivian is definitely a minor character in the long run, wth lol. Party members have a role in the chapter they join in but like the first Paper Mario game, they don't really do anything else... A "huge spoiler and plot twist"? Get real lmfao
@@SkytheFatalis She's literally a villain for half of the game, the chapter revolves around her deciding to leave her sisters and join Mario, and literally THE FINAL BOSS is a distant relative to her. She's the most relevant out of all Mario's party members. You obviously need to play the game again before acting like an expert on it 😂
@@Flareboxx "obviously" 💀💀💀You're still debating that Paper Mario party members are relevant.........
That XBox tax question is some major copium, maybe if they ever decide to make good games again they'll get better scores.
Yeah I'm just going to honest here, I'm just getting ready to hear the tantrums from the old school paper Mario community when this game doesn't sell better than origami king (which is very very likely)
Also you guys don't speak for all Paper mario fans here, there's a ton of people who love games like origami king, they matter to so don't disrespect them and try to ignore them and try to downplay the success of the other games
After so many excited TODAY's... this one was decided not as big... hope you're doing alright
Krysta: Calls herself a Paper Mario afficionado
Also Krysta: Hadn't even played the original Paper Mario until two years ago
Lol
Also Krysta: thinks Super Paper Mario is full of paper gimmicks and doesn't have an ambitious story (also calls Kammy Kamek and says the TTYD audience is only Toads)
There is one hateful person at IGN who won't stop with their negativity towards Pokemon, It's extremely annoying.
Paper Mario TTYD is the best game Nintendo has ever made along with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom
still seems like a cash grab to me. no reason this couldn't have been a straight port on the eshop or made part of NSO. same goes for most of their remakes that still hold up/ are easily accessible.
