80% percent of Canadians live close to the United States border. Like within 200 miles or like 500 km.
Mongolia is the least densely populated sovereign country, I am not sure why it's not mentioned.
I get why you excluded micro nations for the most densely populated, but I don't see how it makes sense for the most sparsely populated.
Really? It didn't show up when I looked it up! Although it does look very sparsely populated on the map. Maybe it's the most sparsely populated because everyone lives in the capital? And so the country density itself doesn't reflect that, causing it not to be included in the list?
@@General.Knowledge it's probably because you excluded countries with less than 10 million people, and Mongolia doesn't have 10 million people
I think Denmark would also be pretty dense when you think about how big greenland is
@@schmulwisniewski2421 Buddy I'm mongolian, but you're wrong. Communist did kill many as they usually do, but it was not close to 90%. But it has less than 10 millions
Malta has never had such a large population historically, it is due to the introduction of globalism that a lot of people, especially as the 21st century kicked off, started coming to Malta. Today 1/5th of the population are foreigners, which puts a massive strain on the country as it pushes real estate prices upwards and we continuously suffer from over development.
I live in Malta. The main reason why its so densely populated is due to the number of people who come here to work.
Western and Central Europeans all get jobs working in iGaming here. If its not iGaming, then its tourism. In summer, there is a lot of people from Eastern Europe who come and work in restaurants, bars and clubs for 8 months. There is also a lot of Eastern Europeans who work as builders. Basically everywhere you go, there is a construction site on every block. There is also a lot of Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis who work as nurses, cooks and delivery drivers. Then there is a lot of Philippines who are bus drivers and also cleaners.
That may explain 100K people... but what about the 400K other people? There was a recent increase in the foreign nationals largely due to the economy doing well- More jobs- not enough people to work- we need more people to work....
I am Maltese as well and can confirm both the claims made in this comment. My dad is Serbian (Eastern European) and he works in tile-laying. And if you ever been to the only water park in Malta and went to the restaurant there, all Pakistani staff.
@@cl6374 are you not mad outzyiders take all the jobs there?????
@@mechanikalbull5626 There are not enough Maltese to work those jobs man. Having so many outsiders take your job is the result if you do not make enough childeren.

This video was awesome I learnt so much about densely and sparsely populated countries. Like always loved this video.
In the U.S., the house of representatives is based on the population size of each state. Since the U.S. is basically a confederation of different states, the Senate was created to further cement the ties of the state governments to the federal government. A comparison would be the EU parliament, or seeing the Senate as something akin to state "ambassadors" to the federal government.
i also thought about that thanks for clearifying
Thank you for explaining it with the facts. Always love seeing someone educating rather than politically scolding!
We still need to reform senate. People are more educated today than late 18th century. We need equal representation

The US House of Representatives does most of the policy functions (economic, foreign relations, military) while the US Senate is mostly the administrative wing (confirming federal positions, hearings, etc.), although they both have to sign off on legislation for a bill to pass and both can initiate legislation (except for the federal budget; that has to originate from the House). The House functions as the voice for the people (for the first few decades of its history, a US citizen would only vote in state and local elections, and their only federal election would be to elect their representative) and the Senate functions as a voice for the states (they were nominated by their state's legislature until 1913 when the Constitution was amended to have senators be directly elected by their constituents).

Sup General; It'd be really cool to see another "what if" video.. such as, "What if every continent became a country?".
Great video, population density of a country doesn't show the true picture as the larger countries like will always have low density, but number of high density cities and the population density will be more usable, like you explained.
Obrigado, good video!
You could also have mentioned Java with a population density of 1.121/km2.
I live in the Netherlands and learned in school that our country was the most densily populated in the world. That was 50 years ago. Now we are overtaken by Bangla Desh, Lebanon, Taiwan and South Korea.
the senate is even for each state so those few states don’t control the whole country, the house of representatives is by pop.

It's interesting to see how different population densities are.
One other reason for high density that was missed: access to trade routes.
It was justifiable to list countries with high density only above a certain population to avoid microstates, but for countries with a low density, surely it would be better to list those over a certain area. Geographically large countries like Mongolia and Namibia are the least densely populated.
how about a series about coat of arms?
Hi, the regional divisions in the two Portugal political maps you show around minute 12:20 have different inner divisions, why is that? Greetings from Catalonia
If you compared im pretty sure your find that the world density map pretty much matches up with most of the ancient civilizations areas
Thanks, very nice.
Interesting to see more about population decline in Europe. I'd never thought about it - I guess the areas of Portugal losing population are rural areas. If it's mostly farming, I guess you need fewer people as things have mechanised. So it would be interesting to see other countries where parts have declined, with the reasons for this.
5:48 thought there was a piece of hair at the bottom left corner of my screen
7:42 he knows the truth!
The density spread in a few countries is very interesting as there are similar geological conditions that lead to this for example deeper inland sections of northern and central China have what is called "folds" where the earth is stretched and rotates over millions of years leading to many rows of mountains and valleys and this can lead to issues of flooding, difficult terrain for agriculture but China over centuries found uses for it like growing rice. This is similar situation in parts of western USA with folds in states like Nevada but being a desert means it is mostly empty and used for military and mining with a few small exceptions. Another example is that much of northern Canada is land that was pushed down by the weight of ice from the past ice age and the land is still rising back up again but for now it is nothing but an incredible size land with no trees and water saturated wetlands where you cannot build or farm. This is very very similar to much of northern Russia and Scandinavia.

Greenland is not an independent country. Mongolia is and has lower population density than Australia.
@@Koopa3000 Mongolia didn't meet the 10M+ population threshold.
@@Koopa3000 But what is an "independent" country? Places like Greenland are largely self governing and Denmark which nominally owns the place has little control over it. The video mentions Gibraltar which goes even further, it is 100% self governing and Britain has no control over it at all. That makes them *effectively* more independent than many client states that are technically independent, but under the control of another country.

If you look at density population of the US, you see population on east coast and west coast. As for interior, you can draw a line at 100 degrees. Because agronomy stipulated the line of good amount of rain for crops stop at 100th meridian.
As you did a cut off to remove outliers with the high population density (only allowing countries with over 10 million people) then you shouldn't do the same cutoff line for low density, instead you should make a maximum area (500 000 km^2) for example, that would remove the extremes to make a comparable list to the restricted high population density one.

Canada population density is largely due to the climate and historical facts. As mentionned in the video, the first part of the territory to be colonized is around the St-Lawrence River. These lands were easy to access by water and were very fertile for agriculture. The name Quebec came from a native word meaning something like “ narrow passing”, because the St-Lawrence River become narrower in front of Quebec city. Actually, before 1825 the big merchandise boats were not able to go further than Montreal. Then the Lachine Canal was build and it gave access to the Great Lakes.
