my favorite part of the hobby is that i have my own little ecosystem. as kids we used to go to ponds, catch tadpoles and bring them home until they become frogs. (then release them where we found them) there were also fish, baby turtles, bugs, and countless other organisms that made it home with us for temporary stay. we would take pond water and plants and dirt home so we had a box of the natural ecosystem in our home. fish are fun, but that wasn't the best part. it wasn't having a pet that was awesome, it was having a slice of nature. I'm glad i can do it now when im older too but in a more sustainable way.

My favorite part is making community tanks. I love to see what kind of fish thrive together. I’ve love to make this a job. I set up a betta tank for my grandmother, and now I’ve been asked to set up a 75 gallon community tank for my dad’s friend. Very excited!!

I’m aiming to be a marine biologist and work at an aquarium and maybe get into the business of setting up tanks for businesses. It’ll be a lot of work but it’ll be worth it!

Hi, I’m a marine biologist. Know ahead of time that it’s not as glamorous as it looks! The pay is crap, you will spend much more time in the lab than in the field, and everything is hypercompetitive.

I just got a betta fish last week and it hearts me that so many people don’t understand how to care for fish. And just the fact that I added a heater, a 5 gallon tank, some plants, and decore instead of those little tiny dirty containers at stores just warms my heart to see his little happy face.

The teeny head boops you give them are adorable. My favorite thing is watching different personalities and characteristics that are unique to a species really shine. Like my pleco that sleeps upside down in the middle of a plant or loaches getting all comfy side sleeping. Both will give you a heart attack if you aren’t prepared for it 😂
My favorite part of the hobby is getting to care for the animals and know them individually. Looking at your tank is one thing, but nothing comes close to what it feels like to have beings rely on you for everything they need (whether or not they notice) and creating a bond with them.
Absolutely, caring for and interacting with nature is good for you mentality and physically....

My favorite part is watching things grow. Adult fish, baby fish, plants, live fish food. It all develops and changes all the time. Always something fun and new to watch
My favorite part of fish keeping is having a friendship with your fish, where your betta would see you come into the room and come out of it's hiding place to greet you.
Listening to the water falling helps to reduce stress and I sleep better. The best part is my blood pressure is lower because I enjoy dancing with my goldfish ❣️

Creating a tiny World and them watching how your whater-pupp's eat and enjoy their habitat.
It's really like a televison but you can read a book and drink tea besides the aquarium and it never get's boring!
I find it fun to take care of fish and the thing that I love is whenever I get to see all the unique personalities from all of my fish

My favorite part of fish keeping is the fish community. Very nice and supportive people.
My favorite part is my adorable betta. I call her my little idiot macaroni (she doesn’t really understand how to swim around things to get to my hand so I can feed her, I can see the little gears turning in her head lol) and I have her in a planted 10 gallon. She’s just the prettiest little thing and feeding her helps me get out of bed. As much I enjoy a good sorority (which means no nipped fins most of the time!), I don’t think I’ll ever have one myself because I really enjoy the one-on-one interaction I get with bettas.
I also really enjoy aquascaping and making my tank look pretty, but the best part of it is that the plants give my betta a sense of security and it also helps keep the water clean for her. Everything revolves around her and she knows it 😂.

i would also suggest, if you can swing it, working for a public aquarium. i used to volunteer as a docent at my local aquarium and the place also had fulltime aquarists on staff. they also hired people who had volunteered so that can be a foot in the door.
I've kept crayfish for years in sets like this, I usually catch them when theyre spawning in early spring and grab the small ones in the shallows, most of them either die or get eatten anyway so I feel its alright. Theyre like little lobsters.

I collected driftwood boiled and cleaned it, added Java moss and fern and sold it. Made good money from it as pet store prices are very unreasonable. I added other products. It was fun and rewarding.

Cleaning tanks is therapeutic, seeing the end result of crystal clear water flowing and seeing the fish exist in their own water universe gives satisfaction and a sense of achievement, while also creating discipline and responsibility into the inner psyche transforming your mental thoughts into positive affirming actions that create your own reality successfull.
That's crazy, creating your own business is easier than living of being an aquarium store employee. In maybe a year or 2 i will be going to college, my main goals are to get degrees in both icthyology and marine ecology. I want to be able to be a consultant for fisheries, aquariums, and maybe a little bit of field work while my soon to be wife gets her business going. I love fish for thought, it really gets me excited for being able to work with fish wild or domestic.

Fish tanks and fish are amazing to look at and watch but I'ma touchy feely person and would just want to take the fish out of water and play with it🤦♀️..and the dirty tanks scare me. My most favorite part is watching my fish. I dunno, a lot of people think fish are boring, just swimming around doing nothing, even I thought this for a long time before I got my own aquarium. Now I know how fun and relaxing it is, they are always up to something, chasing others around the tank (trying to understand their hierarchy is also interesting), searching for food, harrasing snails, trying to interact through the glass with their owner (they mostly just come up to look at me to see if I brought food) and this is what I enjoy so much, they fill my day with joy. I love my fish.

I think my favorite part of this hobby is the build up to getting the fish. I like having the excitement of thinking about the future fish. My friends always find me weird for getting really excited about doing water changes, weekly tests, nitrogen cycling and algae scrubbing but it just brings a lot of joy knowing I'm helping the fish have a happy and healthy life. I love aquascaping and doing the research. This is also why I like watching your videos so much the build up is very fun. Currently cycling another fish tank this will be my second in this hobby. I started the second tank shortly before my first fish of this hobby Neptune died. SIP Neptune Riceball Wood!!

The art of aqua scape that has to be my most number one favourite part of it is the art of aqua scape and feeling like a God creating this world for your tiny little inhabitants that depend on you not only does your tank have to be visually appealing for you to look at but it also has to be functionally ultimately beneficial to support life. life supporting art you created that.
Your tank maybe just your canvas but too your fish is their whole world.
And I think people who only have dogs or cats the love for art in aquascape it’s something that they will never experience or have it’s something that a dog cannot provide.

Honestly, I'm just so so so so glad I'm not the only person who boops his fish! My F8 puffers absolutely love head boops and my Bettas like to lie in my hand ☺️

My favourite hobby is taking care of my pets. I used to have a lot of fish and cats. But I'm allergic to cats fur. So I gave my aunt to take care of them. Both of the guy doing well. My fishes are with me. I have 2 beautiful betta fish and some other fishes. I love all of them.

Your goldfish are getting quite large. The bucket you use now is 20 gallons, I found the same brand and name at Canadian Tire. I would recommend upgrading to a 40 gallon.

I’m not really a full time fish keeper because I’m still young and in school but I do own a betta fish named Синий (Blue in russian) and his colors are blue and black. I love him very much because he can do tricks like he jumps out of the water and eats out of my hand! He also follows my finger but I guess that’s really common trick but he is a cute and adorable fish!
