- The review heard around the globe. Today, you and I are going to go in-depth on the third season of Total Drama, Total Drama World Tour. We'll be following Chris and the campers all around the world, and we'll talk a lot about the drama that ensues. Equal parts review, retrospective, and autobiography.
Thank you all so much for those who've waited so patiently for this project to come out. Development and collaboration was difficult, but I am so happy to have finally finished it. I am so thrilled to share this video with you, and I hope you have fun!
Also, I am sorry about the "Content-ID Courtney" thing you might see now and then. The sad reality about making CZcams videos of this kind is that the Content ID system is a destructive force that is difficult and slow to fight off even if your stuff falls under fair use, especially because there is no consequence to companies applying false flags and stealing CZcamsr revenue. I know the silly overlays and graphics flying around are bothersome, but they were my best measure at limiting the amount of Content ID claims made here.

Been 13 days, you good?
I love the implication that DJ's mom could have qualified for World Tour if she stayed put with DJ.
I kinda wish Izzy was on Team Victory and Leshawna or Lindsay were on Team Amazon in her place.
Also no Sierra was a love letter to the Fans during TDA. There were rumors about Cody debuting in the final 5 the way Courtney did but it ended up being Owen. You had to have been a fan online during the airing of TDA to understand just how obsessed people were with Cody despite the fact that he had like little to no character lol he had a Cult following that carried over even into Total DramaRama
That wouldve been amazing 🤣
If they do a second season of Ridonulous Race they should be a team.
Would’ve been better than Blainley
Seeing Heather, Gwen, and Courtney do the "give me the tape" gets me every time.
I know right? 😂
and switchie did it too 😭
@@orelotusidk why but that made me cackle
Every time i see gwen do it I pause the episode ( I watch it on netflix ) and do my own part then unpause
Not gonna lie... the way Tyler slipped in during the Gwen/Duncan kiss makes me laugh every time.
Tyler is the goat of the season
@@tonydelvecchio7162”Lindsay! Im A Goat Too! BaAaAaAaAA”
Yeah, I honestly thought they just made that sidebit for laughs, I didn't think Tyler would actually be under the pressure of keeping a secret, and I actually think it was stupid of the writers to write Courtney finding out about Gwuncan THAT way
@@mihaitavraciu2248I think they only used Tyler for that plotline for no other reason than “We needed to justify his inclusion so I guess we’ll have him randomly play a role in this plotline about three completely unrelated characters”
I think I'm most disappointed about how Gwen's character is reduced in Action & World Tour as a product of her relationships, because each time it got her eliminated, which is a shame because she was a strong competitor and a loveable character in Island. I agree that it was something written with not much thought to it, but Gwen really could've had a better story about her becoming more opened up and vulnerable, as she had already done with certain characters like Leshawna and Geoff.
In Island, Gwen was kind of the audience surrogate. I mean, yeah she was a goth, but when you see her next to the other goths in the series, it becomes obvious she's not being played up to that stereotype like other contestans are played up to theirs. Because of this, she kind of defaults into the "straightman" role, we root for her by default because the others' weirdness is bouncing off of her, so she is easy to identify with her.
And that may be precisely why she's so misused in later seasons. She just... doesn't have much to begin with. Let's assume it, everyone got a tad flanderized as seasons went on. The most obvious case is Chris, who goes from a somewhat negligent host to an actual psycho that not only torments others at cartoony levels, but actually manages to break the show's levels of evilness so hard he winds up going to prison for it. But everyone else also has their own gradual descent into insanity. Except maybe for heather and noah, that are the 2 that get more complex as time goes on, and owen and Izzy who were honestly always bonkers. As for everyone else? Lindsay goes from dumb as a brick to being actually unable to remember her boyfriend's face, Courtney goes from a bit controling and uptight to openly murderously neurotic, Leshawna goes from hating Heather in relatively normal teem ways to actually throwing a challenge just to beat her hard enough that she causes one of her teeth to come out, Tyler goes from a bit of a clutzy jock to constantly failing at everything...
But if authors are moving away from the more nuanced tone of s1 and everyone is getting flanderized. How would you do that wity Gwen? I mean... what aspects of her personality would you flanderize? If you ask me, the only real way to go about it would've been to just use her less. Like how during her cameo all they did is bury her alive again, that was actually a decent joke tbh. But yeah... While maybe I'd have preferred having a tone closer to the original, taking into account what the authors were doing, either they just used her less, or the only real aspect of her they could flanderize was her love life, seems they chose the last option.
@@thespanishinquisition4078 So there's an easy solution, they should've never wrote Gwen like a main character at all. I would prefer that personally since Island was stupidly skewed toward her, more than other seasons and their favoritism.
All stars was the nail to the coffin for a possible redemption arc for Gwen and was basically the end for her character entirely and she went out burning sin flames
@@tonydelvecchio7162that isn't true at all lmao. Gwen ended her run there with actual friends, and she's no longer hated by anyone anymore.
@@sameyfan612 she is still hated by fans
I read somewhere that Cody barely sang because his voice actor was insecure about his singing. Crazy to think about though cause I liked his singing a lot.
Ironic given the voice actor hit them notes in episode 22 like dang.
@@thespectaculargamernerd8114 That was one of my favorite songs specifically because of his part 😭
And Duncan’s voice actor ironically has said he really enjoy singing
Makes me wonder even more why they kept Cody in World Tour for 3rd place when Peter Oldring didn't wanna sing in a musical season
@@CoylerProductions probably because they came up with everything like it without telling VAs and it's probably out of contract to refuse to voice due to something you're personally insecure about, i can also imagine they wanted the 2 newbies to get really far and Sierra is EXTREMELY Cody dependent so
i don’t think anyone will argue with me when i say that:
- every single member of team victory was done dirty and never got to redeem themselves
- literally almost everyone that made it to the merge was iconic in some way
- it’s actually kind of impressive how alejandro was able to eliminate literally almost half the cast in his first season. will definitely say his skills played a major factor in this though.
I agree that team victory was done dirty, most of the characters there have been ruined or needed a redemption like Bridgette and ezekiel, as much as i hate him i do wish that dj stayed longer because he had a good storyline when he got over the animal curse ig but leshawna had her time to shine during action and island though her elimination wasnt satisfying. Harold and Lindsay also had their time to shine during action and i think booting them early was a good idea. But ezekiel needed to at least make it for a few more episodes like seriously hes such a waste of a character.
Lindsay deserved to win Action
-team amazon is the main character
Well I feel world tour was trying to bring more attention to underrated characters
@@hahwhhsbsiei something I actually noticed when rewatching world tour was that the only reason zeik was booted first was because he listened to Harold's advice
The one thing I've always disliked about this season is that Heather and Leshawna became friends in Action, they ended in good terms after Heather's elimination, then confirmed their new formed friendship in the follow up Aftermath episode. But I guess the writers completely forgot about that and they just went back to how they were in Island lol. Which is too bad, it would have been interesting to see how their friendship progressed.
What I think happened is that leshawna got jealous over heather “unintentionally” falling for Alejandro, making it so team victory lost due to leshawna’s jealousy and personal arrogance. Also that heather wouldn’t get voted off due to Alejandro having an “unintentional” crush on heather.
I just like heathers teeth being slapped out
Same
I always figured Heather’s online feud with Gwen was the catalyst for Leshawna hating Heather again, since she and Gwen had been friends a lot longer, and under better circumstances
Even after becoming friends she was very clear a that she didn’t like heather. Just didn’t hate her as much. But I’m sure she still had a lot of remaining frustration
The last episode is when Chris officially lost it. He was sadistic and violent before but idk I guess seeing two kids die/get very seriously injured awoke his deep sociopathy because after that he just kept trying to kill as many teens as possible
It's kinda hilarious in a dark way
I'd say the plane blowing up was what did it, they just already had plans for the finale that even the network wouldn't allow him to change.
I think Chris being upset about the plane’s destruction does make sense. After all, we see a tonne of luxury equipment such as jacuzzis, a weird sleep pod, and more. That’d easily cost way more than a million
I like how Chris has a ton of shit for himself but the plane itself is terrible
I misread plane as planet for a minute and was very confused
@@doozy5184 Let's be honest here, total drama in Uranus will be happening wether you like it or not
Lmao the plane alone cost a mln or more
It's just like Chris's Cottage blowing up in season 5
Odd thing I noticed while watching the show myself.
Sierra claims that Chris McLean was born in 1978, right before this, she also said Chris was in a boy-band in the 80's. This means by most generous standards, Chris was 10-11 when he was in a boy band. (Honestly I don't know enough about boybands to know if that age fits?) But regardless it seems to point to the idea that Chris was involved in the hollywood scene since he was a child, probably explaining his self-obsessed nature, and his cruelty to his contestants.
Maybe he's cruelty it's for being a failed star, I mean he had a canceled show at first episodes, shitty B movies and it wasn't even the first option for total drama.
As narcissist as he is, he probably would do everything for the fame he thinks he deserves
Bro I was thinking that too
@@Randomdude112 kid boy band
Honestly I could buy Chris being in a boy band before he was even a teenager, his character definitely seems blind to the evils of being rich/famous so it makes sense that maybe he got started before he fully understood, and once he did it was too late to look back, but then again this is Chris McLean, they could tell me he sold his parents into slavery at 8 years old and I'd believe it until I hear otherwise, dudes a little nuts maybe he's gone out of his way to lie about his birth date to seem younger, cuz by the time of the later seasons I could believe him being older than he lets on
Chris was part of the Jackson 5

actually Owen and Izzy were a better "not every date is a match made in heaven" romance then the love triangle
Yeah, this is how they should've done it. I get Cartoon Network's intention of wanting the show to have the message of how not every relationship is going to work out, but why do they have to enforce the love triangle subplot in the first place?
@@spydersoup8447 idk pretty sure they just had a case on the derp in action
or that cartoon network with it's perma derp messed things up
@@user-oy2zg3bt6n I get the feeling the reason for the love triangle sub plot is just to keep Heather in since she is important to the plot about the build up to her facing Alejandro at the end and at that point, Team Victory is completely gone, which most likely existed just to keep Heather in, since if it wasn't for the existence of Team Victory and if they had not came up with the love triangle sub plot by Cartoon Network's demands on having the message of how not every relationship is a match made in heaven, Team Amazon would've voted Heather out completely because of what she was like in the previous seasons. So, it seems like a win-win situation for both companies.
@@spydersoup8447 ya no, it was mainly because CN messed stuff up in the background and wanted to show that not every love is at first sight
@@user-oy2zg3bt6n I also included that too and mentioned it seemed to be a win-win situation for both CN and FreshTV.
To be honest Alejandro and Heather really carried the 3rd season their relationship and manipulation was great. AND THE SCENE WHERE THEY WERE DANCING AND SINGING ON TRAIN WAS JUST 🤌
Real
doing the masochism tango on a moving train? romance doesn't get better than that 👌🏽

@@SCHLOMPYDefinitely.
I think another thing to mention is the absolutely amazing chemistry between Owen and Noah. Noah and Owen are so silly together, big sunshine and pessimist. It's great. Their scenes together are funny and *sometimes* well thought out. Love them.
True, I was so sad that Noah was voted off so quickly afterwards because them interacting was a freaking treat 🥹 But considering how amazing they were in Ridonculous Race I can deal with that. 😂
That line "you've only spoken to me like, three times, including this one" is so funny because of it being true
“Courtney’s voice actress is a professional jazz singer” ya know… that makes everything makes so much more sense

World Tour is defiantly the peak of the show, but Team Victory is my only main problem with it. While I am glad DJ made it the furthest, since he is my favorite, it just doesn't seem right to boot everyone out so early, especially Leshawna who is constantly done dirty.
Also, they make Noah an actual character and he gets out at the halfway mark which is a crime.
Yea they should’ve made it two teams. It feels like they wanted two teams because they kicked out everyone on team victory early
I feel like they did team victory the way they did is they wanted the joke that a team called victory only ever lost, but no other team getting an elimination just feels lazy and we could have gone with one or two eliminations from the other teams maybe team Amazon is the only team without eliminations making it feel tense for everyone else
Noah had so much potential to make the rest of the season super interesting if he stuck around, given his prior interactions with everyone on his team, but no, they just yeeted him before it got really good.
For as much flak as he gets in Ridonculous Race, I'm glad they gave him _something_ to do there.
noah shouldve go out in london but brought back
I liked Revenge of the Island, All Stars was mid looking back on it now but I feel like sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who likes Revenge of The Island lol
I'm so glad that here in Australia, we got the completely uncensored versions of Total Drama. No awful "kick butt attitude", no horrendous editing out of "crap", no not seeing Cody sink into the greatest death a man can ask for.
Oath
We got the uncensored version here in the UK too, it threw me for a loop the first time I heard the characters say crap on there, even as a kid I wondered how the network allowed that.
we got the uncensored version here in canada too, and whats interesting is the fact that we didn’t get the alternate endings here, even tho everyone calls them the canadian endings. for me the winners were owen duncan and heather
Weird thing is I'm American and I *still* remember seeing the uncensored versions, I vividly remember seeing all of this stuff back when it originally aired even tho I'm told it was censored in the US, I guess it's a regional thing lol
@@dandreflowers7435 Maybe it was a network think too. Apparently it was Cartoon Network that censored it, so maybe you watched it on another channel.
My theory for Sierra's inconsistency in Episode 9 is that she did in-fact send an audition tape and then when Chris got the contestants and saw Sierra was there he just said fuck it and let her on
I just assumed it was planned that she would be there. Not the first time Chris pretended something happened randomly when he actually set it up
There was a lost clip where DJ messes up/destroys a whole bunch of audition tapes. I like to think as headcanon that it includes the tapes of the several contestants that didn't have their tapes shown
01:12:19 I think the writers having Alejandro give up in the Slap, Slap, Revolution challenge was to foreshadow/set-up his attraction to Heather. It was already established that as soon as Team Amazon lost, they would vote off Heather. Alejandro wanted to make sure Heather stayed in the game, so he let Sierra win for Team Amazon so that they wouldn't be able to vote off Heather.
I didn't think of that, though I was always curious about why Alejandro willingly lost. But after, he did say something about being distracted by Heather, I think?
No he wanted to make everyone think leshawna fell for heather’s (unintentional) bait so leshawna looks at fault and gets eliminated
Personally I just interpreted it as him realizing he already won. I mean, it's an elimination challenge, all that matters is not being last, so since a team already wiped out, he didn't have to fight at all anymore, and that way he avoids plausible physical injury taking into account who he was against. Izzy is EXCEPTIONALLY adept at causing pain.
He pre-planed most of the game if you think about it. Most of it was intentional. Even him vrs Heather run. He did it on purposes and only did that to show off to Heather while also making sure there was a tie. That way he could get Tyler to spew his secret about what he saw. He had that planned out from the song
@@Shastasnow Alejandro also showed a consicence has he was shock at the slap and didnt plan for Leshawna to do that so took a dive so that Heather could get first class
I remember feeling sad for Ezekiel and feeling really mad that Heather didn’t get the money at the end but I loved this season a lot
Honestly what zeik did at the end of season 3 really pissed me off. Mainly because by that logic it didn't matter if you got out first or second to last
@Brandon S good to know
@Total drama Brandon Bro what?
Ezekiel got treated like shit by literally everyone he should BURN the money
I'm surprised no one ever noticed this, but then again it was minor:
In Action, whenever Lindsay mentioned Tyler or wondered where Tyler was, most people/everyone in the scene would tell her that Tyler isn't there or isn't in the season. I'm guessing the writer's brought that back for comedic relief, which worked well since Tyler is actually in the season. It's a fun detail I love to think about
one thing I notice but no one does is in the first episode of island Noah says he has life threatening allergies but in world tour he is perfectly fine and Cody has allergies
One of my few complaints with this season is Duncan trying to get with both Courtney and Gwen would have been a perfect opportunity for the girls to cement their new friendship and dump him together for playing both of them. Instead the show goes the cheap route of having them turn on each other.
Yeah, especially since the worse part is, well, you ever find it stupid that when a guy cheats on a girl he's already in a relationship with, she puts the blame on his mistress by claiming that she stole him from her instead of, you know, going after the guy for betraying her, like any normal person would? That's pretty much Courtney here. It's like she's so overly obsessed with Duncan that the thought of him cheating on her never once crossed her mind. So when it turns out he does cheat on her, it's somehow the fault of Gwen, and apparently, everyone agrees with Courtney on this and yet, they somehow can't even figure out why she's deliberately making her own team lose when the answer is very obvious.
I get the feeling that they came up with this just so that they can keep Heather in because if they haven't came up with this at all by Cartoon Network's demands on having the message of how not every romantic relationship is going to work out, the team would've easily voted for Heather out completely and thus, it destroys the story they want to have about her facing Alejandro at the very end.
For the reboot/continuation/whatever the hell their doing I want a Korrassami arc for them where Gwen and Courtney get together
That's basically what ends up happening in TD:All Stars
@@dandreflowers7435 Eventually. And of course, they had to make Chris bring it back together and basically make Gwen a villain in All-Stars, another proof that they want us to think that it's Gwen's fault and that we should start hating her now.
Another hilarious scene you didn't add in from episode 11 is when Noah asks, "What, did we land in the 70s?" Then Chris pushes him off the waterfall.
I don't think Sierra meant she got in because of her second audition, she probably got both of her auditions turned down and the events of the special are what led to her getting in
That’s what I always assumed
Alejandro's ethnicity is super confusing, which I think is on purpose. Blainley call him Spanish one moment, then he says he won a South American world championship, which implies he's South American. In the same episode, he says "in my country, we eat barbecued guinea pig" which implies he's Peruvian, then in episode 23 he offers Heather a pupusa, which implies he is from El Salvador. But he's evil and has the last name Burromeurto, which implies he's from Honduras (according to my Salvadorean friend anyway). More than likely, he's from Turkmenistan.
Or he’s just Latin as in Niagara brawls he says “let me offer my Latin warmth”
@@Randomdude112 Latin describes a whole continent and a half, there is no such thing as “just Latin”

I saw clips on CZcams of Total Drama before I started watching it. And some clips made me love Noah. He seemed to have a pretty big fanbase. So I was really surprised when he was voted off so early in Island. But World Tour made him so much more iconic than he already was. His dry humor, his sarcasm, his friendship with Owen and Cody. It was amazing. And then Chris decided to bend the rules and completely ignore what the challenge was supposed to be about and Noah was unfairly eliminated. And instead of bringing him back to create interesting dynamics, they brought in the random newscast lady that no one really liked. For some reason. Love World Tour, but some of the decisions with Noah and Sierra being a weird stalker never really sat well with me.
I think they gave him good retribution in Ridonculous race though

Apoy in the wild
Thats the only plausible motive i guess
2:34:39 actually ive calculated the time line pretty well with this. So in the spinoff series, Ridonulous Race, Owen, Geoff, and Noah are returning members from 1st gen. Also Leonerd, a 3rd gen contestent was a contestant as well. In this spinoff, all contestens are of varing ages which some crew have revealed in a post. It is said that Owen, Geoff, and Noah are 19 by the time that RR was being filmed, while Leonard is 16. Since the og cast were all 16 at the start of the series, its safe to say that Leonard was still 16 during his debut season.
The gemmi awards show a considerable time skip without them changing too much and to account for cody's birthday, the gemmi awards were aired live 3 months after TDA. Cody would've turned 17 by the end of TDWT
He couldn't have turned 18 because Chris was arrested in the revenge of the island finale for a year around Mid june/early july. It fluctuates because of the fact that ROTI was considerably shorter at 2 weeks. This is because there's no reward challenges and the cast is considerably smaller at 13 instead of the usual 20 or so.
This plus the fact that Chris hosted two more seasons after he was released from jail, this helps fill up the time line up to RR.
Year One: TDI and TDA aired between June to Mid October.
Year Two: Gemmi awards air in January and TDWT airs a bit later, it ends specifically on April 2nd of that year. Then ROTI airs for two weeks in June or July. Chris is then arrested for a year
Year 3: Chris is let out of jail and hosts Allstars and Pahkitew island are both filmed sometime during June/July and December
Year 4: RR airs with gen 1 contestants being 19 and gen 3 contestants still being 16.
if u read this, i hope this info helps lol!
Wow
That still gives so little time for the contestants to have done all the things Celebrity Manhunt shows them doing.
@@k-leb4671 the timeline of events make sense if you consider the main 4 events that show a date significant to keeping track of the timeline. of course the stuff they do isn’t gonna make sense in a timeline, but i don’t think they were really focused on a time line when they were making this show.
also in this very video, it’s pointed out how the celebrity manhunt episode doesn’t make any sense with the rest of the world tour season with how much they retconned various points. Hot take: I am indifferent on Gwuncan. I think Duncney is really great in TDI, but in TDA and TDWT, they are extremely toxic and I feel like Duncan should have just broken up with her. Gwuncan is much less toxic, but it is much more boring.
Agree minus the boring part
I have a similar opinion.
When I was younger I used to ship Duncney a lot, mainly because I was really into the bad boy-good girl dynamic, it's not about the gender (it could be bad girl-good boy too or a gay couple where one partner is the "bad" and the other is the "good" one) but about the dynamic of the more casual, free-spirited, risk-taking, rebellious "bad" part of the pair and the rule-oriented, strict, academic goody-two-shoes other part of the pair. For me, it's that the "bad" one gets the "good" one out of their shell and gets them to experience a less rule-oriented environment and have experiences they wouldn't have had otherwise, whereas the "good" one gets the "bad" one to see the good in people or why it's not good to be callous and how taking so many risks or not following rules can hurt them or others.
In TDI this fits Courtney and Duncan well but as the seasons progressed, Courtney's character changed so much that she could no longer be considered the Courtney we first meet. Mainly, she becomes far less morally good, far more risk-taking, athletically better trained and more competitive. One of her appeals in TDI was that she was, despite her flaws (for example being a wuss in many challenges, she doesn't jump off of the hill in the very first challenge and she doesn't face her fear of green jelly despite coaching Duncan on how to face his), a rule-abiding and good person (lawful good you could say) who was getting out of her shell (with Duncan's help). In later seasons, she loses her morality and becomes more competitive and intense.
She was unfairly kicked off of the show because of Harold's tampering with the voting and she also lost the lawsuit against the show for being unfairly kicked off (she states so in TDI I believe), the actual reason why she's in TDA is because of another lawsuit that she won. When she got back on the show legally, Chris agitated everyone against her by reading all the extra rules to her being there (for example being able to eat better meals and having better treatment). She's also stated that she saw what was "going on" between Duncan and Gwen, which must have caused jealousy. These seem to be the reasons for her character changes, but it still feels forced to me. I wouldn't have minded her changing throughout the seasons but in a much more gradual manner, though I don't expect that kind of writing forethought and long-term planning from the Total Drama writers. It's still one of the main things that upsets me when I watch TDI and TDA. The difference between Courtney in TDI and TDA is jarring.
As for Duncan, I honestly don't think he got changed that much, but I do think he lost that caring side that was established and emphasized during TDI. I feel like Duncney focused a lot on Courtney coming out of her shell and not enough on Duncan. It would have been nice to see Duncan recognizing why certain rules are valuable or why it can be rewarding to follow guidelines or be moral or something along the lines from Courtney, at least when their relationship was still good. I also would have liked to see Duncan's caring side when relating to Courtney or other competitors a bit more. While I do think it makes sense for him to be more independent and not particularly helpful overtly, it would have been nice if the show showed him covertly helping some of his competitors, not in winning the competitions but in something like how he found a new bunny for DJ in TDI.
However Duncney got much more toxic, this is thought to start in TDA with the 32 page essay on terms and conditions in their relationship and her more competitive stance towards Duncan. Though even in the special between TDI and TDA we see Duncan and Courtney having issues, like when they're paired up trying to get the million dollar case, and at one point an alligator gets it and Courtney literally commands Duncan to fight the alligator and oddly enough Duncan just does it. This is not in character for him or Courtney and I think this is when Courtney starts getting changed. I have to note that I feel like Duncan is so inconsistent when it comes to what he's afraid and not afraid of and what he's willing to put up with and not willing to put up with. He's not afraid of the hook-handed killer on the loose and faces him when he has a full on chainsaw and BEATS him but he is afraid of Celine Dion music store standees, he is not willing to sing to stay on the show but he is willing to fight an alligator when Courtney commands him to. You could argue that he has the balls to beat the hook-handed killer in the same way he has the balls to fight the alligator, both times to win a million dollars, but he doesn't have the patience to do something he despises like singing, on top of also having to win the show. But, personally, it still feels inconsistent.
In TDWT, Duncney is full of arguing and mainly Courtney forcing Duncan to do things like sing, not just asking nicely but genuinely commanding him to do so, which is one reason why the relationship is toxic. You see Courtney commanding Duncan to do things that he doesn't want to multiple times and Duncan is tough enough to do those things and persevere but he's still a free spirit and doesn't want to be controlled or nagged by Courtney.
Whereas for Gwuncan, I'm pretty ambivalent. I kind of like the idea of a down-to-earth, introverted, moral, goth girl falling for a tough, intense, punky bad boy. It feels like a mixing of stereotypes which would be interesting on a show that's built on that concept. But it just isn't worth breaking Duncney up for Gwuncan and it isn't worth it for either Duncan or Gwen's characters. Though, I will admit Gwen looks cute when she has this crush on Duncan and talks about him and their kiss but Duncan didn't really show liking her that much, other than when they actually kissed and when they had like three intimate moments. If Gwuncan was to succeed, I would have wished to see Duncan be more interested in Gwen and have moments where he talks about her in the confessionals like he's into her, similar to the moments he talks about Courtney in TDI and TDA, he especially has these moments in TDA where he tries not to say he likes her since he doesn't want to admit it and she has the upper hand as she can ignore her feelings more than he can to win the competition. I would have also wanted to see something more intimate between them like the scenes between Courtney and Duncan.
Anyway, that's pretty much it.
Both couples were horrible and it made all three characters completely terrible. I couldn’t really root for anybody and it made the scenes where Courtney & Sierra turned on Gwen really uncomfortable.
The only character I actually liked during that whole arc was Heather
Agreed. I find Gwen and Duncan very dull together. Courtney and Duncan are so much more fun together. But then Courtney's character flaws got worse and her relationship with Duncan got worse.
@@biseragjurovska1998 Well said.

With how much you covered the Ezekiel stuff, I'm surprised you barely mentioned what happens to Al. It legitimately made me uncomfortable for a long time, even somewhat to this day, and gave me nightmares for at least the night after I watched the episode, maybe more. The idea of some teen in a reality show, even one we had spent a lot of time with, getting bathed in lava, and (at that point seemingly for the rest of his life) being placed into a robot, was arguably darker than what happened to Zeke. I had a similar, though I don't think quite as harsh, reaction to Scott's end in Revenge, particularly how everyone laughed at him, and his inability to respond to it.
Probably because Alejandro was fine in All-Stars

About the songs: in the Total Drama universe, total drama is still a reality show right? The final product we see is processed and edited like hell, just like reality TV in real life. So in my headcanon, whenever the musical challenge comes, the contestans will just wing whatever lines comes to their mind, and the editors will stitch the usable lines together to make a coherent song for the viewers. Thats kinda the only way this sort of musical reality show would work in real life, right?
But that completely ruins the fact that it is LIVE Tv, but that is normally forgotten by the writers too
I might have been overthinking this, but this headcanon explains why contestants we didn’t see sing in an episode, got to stay. They did sing, it was just discarded from the final cut.

I do agree with you on that whole Gwen vs Courtney thing, the most baffling part about it is while I do appreciate how it addresses women being potential sex harassers and cheaters, but you'd actually think that a character like Courtney would confront Duncan about him cheating on her, which is what really happened, but apparently, she's so obsessed with Duncan that the thought of him cheating on her never even came to her mind and she instead blames it on Gwen for stealing him from her. You know that Social Link in the female route of Persona 3 Portable with Saori with the bit about this guy who asks Saori out and then it turns out he already has a girlfriend and was cheating on her, but instead of his girlfriend confronting him about it, she instead confronts Saori about it, claiming she's the one who asked him out, even though we saw that it's the other way around. Well, it's basically the same thing, but even more non-sensical, since I've always imagined that the guy who asked Saori out is such a convincing liar that his girlfriend ends up believing in him more than anyone else. Plus, it's clearly shown as a BS moment that you're meant to feel angry about, at how self absorbed and oblivious this girl who attacked Saori is, but there's nothing you can do about it.
I really dont like lindsay forgetting tyler, but it led to him causing an avalanche from excitement that she remembered him, which i always thought was pretty cute.

I can def see Gwuncan working , I liked Gwen and Duncan’s chemistry in Island+Action, and Gwen didn’t try to change Duncan unlike Courtney who wrote a whole essay on everything he needs to change about himself to be with her. But at the same time they came together out of cheating, and you’re absolutely right they did nothing with the ship once it became canon and Gwen got eliminated, which all happened in the span of four epsiodes. And All-Stars didn’t do any better because All-Stars barely does anything right.

Miscellaneous thoughts
47:37 - May I suggest an alternative theory as to why Ezekiel voted off DJ for "no reason"? If we think back to their interactions thus far into World Tour, you may remember 43:33 when DJ climbs on top of Ezekiel, clearly to Zeke's discomfort. Not to mention, DJ is CLEARLY squashing his iconic hat!
I also have one other theory - Ezekiel needs to be present to "protect the girls", as he says in season 1, right? He wouldn't vote off another female contestant! Ezekiel's naturally gonna vote off the one person who doesn't need is protection!! As for Harold, we have a shot of Owen hugging Ezekiel and Harold together after winning, so I think a slight geeky kinship is implied. Zeke is obviously somewhat into Bridgette, given the hot tub scene in S1, and Zeke teamed up with Lindsey when looking for the million dollar case. Excluding Leshawna, a female, DJ would naturally be Zeke's first choice to vote off, for all the aforementioned reasons. When taking this into consideration, I don't think it's a mystery at all!
49:47 I actually have my own theory about the strange song placement in the Japan episode.
- First, as he mentioned in the video, take note that pandas are predominantly found in China, but for some reason there's a panda in the challenge.
- Next, take note that they flew all the way to Japan just to spend maybe 30 minutes in that game studio to do the challenge. Then they went back to the PLANE, and did the rest of the episode in there. Why fly all the way to Japan to barely utilize any of it?
I think Harold's line about cultural insensitive is kind of meta. I think the writers initially intended for a very different episode, song included. But I think a lot of initial challenge ideas AND the initial idea of the song were pulled for potentially being culturally insensitive. So they quickly replaced everything.
Maybe there was originally a song/challenge that was pulled, so they made up for it by making a new commercial-based challenge, and placing the song at the beginning of the episode.
53:38 Hilarious SM64 soundtrack incorporation.
1:03:58 W segment.
1:05:11 Wow I just noticed that this scene is a reference to the "Airplane" movie, with everyone lining up to maul him
1:18:56 Actually, I think the lyric is just implying that Sierra auditioned for Total Drama twice, but was rejected both times. Then she finally got on the shoe through another means. The "finally got on a show" lyric probably isn't indicating that Sierra got on the show by auditioning. The lyric just serves to show how much Sierra wanted to get onto Total Drama before actually doing successfully so in the Manhunt episode.
1:33:33 I actually really really like the fact that they eliminated one of three teams immediately. I think, despite Victory's short run, the team separation still fulfilled its purpose as far as character dynamics. I like getting rid of one team immediately for the same reason I like Beth winning TDA -- unpredictability. It's a testament to how no one knows what to expect when watching live television. Even if it's unconventional. I like to pretend that these was actually purely coincidental rather than it being deliberate on the writers' parts or anything. I think it makes the show all the more immersive. I watched this season as the episodes came out, and I certainly couldn't have predicted an entire team would dissolve in such a way.
3:16:26 Tbh, though, the kiss between Heather and Alejandro was somewhat of a climax and did KIND of cement some character development. Kind of. We see that Alejandro wasn't just a villain but that he was genuinely in love with Heather. And I think it's subtly implied that Heather reciprocated the feelings. Another pay off is that Alejandro loses either way, and that Heather potentially wins -- and deserves it... however, as he rightfully chastised the show for doing, all of that was disregarded for the Ezekiel bit.
Bridgette:
All contestants must sing in each show!
Cody:
And I took that personally!
eaglefan was vailskibum!?
OH MY GOD
THAT WAS THE BIGGEST PLOT TWIST I'VE EVER SEEN
Aside from the nitpicking of Cody’s singing (even when others weren’t singing either sometimes) this was a great analysis of my favorite season of Total Drama, amazing job, can’t wait for the next comprehensive roast if there is one
It's great to see some long and extremely entertaining videos on TD, I feel like it hasn't gotten enough love outside of some 10min videos that doesn't really scratch that itch.
Would LOVE to see more of these videos for not only the rest of the seasons, but from other medias that intrigue you 👍
I think I know why Lindsay was kinda over forgetful. In season two she was told so many times that Tyler wasn’t coming back that she might’ve told herself that enough to think he’d never come back ever
One of my favorite parts of the series is when they make the teams and Alejandro finds out he’s basically been left with what at the time could be seen as total drama outcasts (the less popular members besides Owen). I just love the private freak out he has in the confessional when it turns out that’s what he has to work with
I always figured the point of Team Victory was to buy some time to establish the plotlines of the "main" characters of the season. You don't need another team to do that, but I do think it's helpful - it's a lot easier to write than making sure that the most important characters don't do anything that could justify an elimination. For example, in the earlier episodes, there's literally NO reason for the Amazons to vote out anyone but Heather, but she's so important to the season that she has to be kept around. You couldn't really justify keeping her unless there WAS a sort of "punching bag" team to take the losses until they can give other, less important characters reasons for elimination.
Then they should’ve brought back Katie and Sadie for Team Victory, they’re already filler characters
@@mimikyutubesaltaccount4875 no… you see they were annoying not only to the characters but the audience as well and seeing them just makes one unhappy
@@spiltmilk6716 yeah, but they are fantastic filler characters
I like the little moment between Cody and Chef. Feels like they interacted between the different seasons.
1:19:42 I have a theory.
What if Sierra did audition for season 2 and maybe 3 and she's just mentioning all of her failures before actually getting on the show even if it wasn't because of her audition. It's possible there we're auditions for season 3 even if they amounted to nothing or maybe she auditioned twice to season 2.
I still think irl it's a lack of continuity but you can still spin it in a way that makes sense
also! team victory getting purged from the show serves as a parallel to survivor season 10: Palau, where the brown koror team won every immunity challenge and only had to vote someone out pre merge because both teams had to go. team victory serves as a take on that disastrous ulong team from palau. the difference being that 1 person from ulong made the merge
meanwhile zeke placing last again is also an unintentional survivor reference, because years after this season, francesca hogi would place last on survivor twice
42:29 "it's like the Audioslave of Total Drama teams" is SUCH an underrated line. Great video dude!
Thank you. I’m glad you liked it :D
Courtney: We don’t need to bug you
Switchie: COURTNEY LANGUAGE
I would also love to mention that at least in Poland the winner was supposed to be chosen through a voting on our local Cartoon Network site, and this applied to all seasons, and when TDWT was airing, Cody was among the choices. There were a lot of rumours that there was Cody's victory ending somewhere but not a single time had someone posted the proof. It still has some status of lost media, a legend or Mandela effect.
As for the rule of endings, IIRC originally it was Owen for Island, Beth for Action and Alejandro for World Tour, BUT even Cartoon Network Poland hasn't exactly played into this and broadcasted the other endings during a marathon run of each show some time later. Everything fully dubbed.
I don't think there's was ever a chance Cody could have won and had an ending. I think the votes were just either ignored or they picked the character with the most votes other than Cody
