Thanks dude. Your video of 3 best radar detectors helped me buy the R8. I travel 3 to 9hrs across Texas for work and I need this peace of mind after getting lucky with 3 State Troopers back to back, that was my reason for wanting one.
My v1g2 suddenly stopped working so I’m picking up a r8 after work today. Excited to compare the 2. The v1g2 was great and saved me many times
Just picked up the r8 from the ebay deal, so now I have to learn about it. I’ve been running the R3 since launch.

I like running in Dark Mode muted No annoying alerts and more noticeable when detecting a signal. After one month of running the R8 I retired my 9500ix. I wish you can customize the GPS signal alerts with Speed Trap, Camera options. Thanks Vortex!
That’s a big step up! I had a 9500 back in the day! Was passed on from my dad when he upgraded to the a 360.
Got my first radar detector, Uniden R8 2 months ago. Man I don't have any regret whatsoever getting it.
Are there flaws with it more than the R7? Like would you say the R7 or R8 is better? I don't care about price just the reliability
@@mysticgaming7726 part of the reason I went for the R8 is because fortunately, I didn't care about the price and I got a crazy deal out of it. From what I heard, R8 had longer range detection and filters out false K band readouts. I personally find it a bit too sensitive but it can be tweaked to your liking. Overall, I got no regrets with it. Save me a few times already.
@Carlo Teodoro Have you tried it in a city? If so, how good was the detection? I'm planning to get the R8 and use it when I go to Atlanta
@@mysticgaming7726yeah I use it on the daily with a mix of both cities and highways. In my area, I was able to also determine where MRCDs are posted. Long story short. You won't regret it.

Yesss looking forwards to setup/optimization in part 2! I only run Ka band right now because my K band goes off all the time. I am using the Advanced setting with K filtering on + set my K band to 30% Narrow but every car I pass sets it off which is super annoying. To the point where I got angry and turned it off entirely. Also if I have a higher sensitivity, when in my car that has all the lane assist sensors, I am in a perpetual state of K band beeping even when I mute everyone I see
Plus, are we able to mute k band sound but leave it on the display or can we only turn it off entirely?
You could accomplish that by setting quiet ride to a super high threshold :)

Would you recommend the R8 or the R7 at this point in time?
Is the filtering as good as even something like a Max 3 with FW v1.6? I have been happy with the quietness and filtering of a Max 3 with 1.6.
I dont drive particularly fast and like strong filtering of BSM and stationary falses. Considering this for my other car. This or a Max 360 MkII or maybe RL360C. Im comfortable with Escort for a decade plus. But...
Hey so I recently did a stage 2 tune on mhd for my m340 and now every time I try to use launch control it just spins my tires and it doesn’t seem to work would you possibly know why?

always love your videos. you have a goog line on Uniden. Perhaps you can pass along my concerns with the speed and red light camera feature.. I like that it tells me there is a speed and red light camera, what i don't appreciate is it saying "you are over the speed limit" constantly and then beeping and screeching at me. It doesn't sound good when my dash cam is right beside it recording the audio stating "you are over the speed limit" I would prefer it not do that. Not sure if you have any speed cameras at your intersections but go check it out.. My unit is a Uniden R7.

Thanks for your help. I went with the R8. Got it for 612.00 @ Amazon 2-22-24. The setup was extremely easy. I read in Ohio and New Jersey you should turn on X Band? At the moment I am using your set up. Still got a lot to learn.

Quick question. Can the laser jammer port be used to power my Viofo t3 dash cam? If so, that is the Jack name. I need a jack to usb-C cable. Also what would cause the mileage display to go blank??

Hi. How are you? Great videos explaining the radar. I do have one major issue with the radar. I previously owned the old Escort Max that doesn't have all the speed cameras. But, you can mark locations. After marking, it would just do a small reminder. The Uniden R8 has all of them programmed. There are many speed cameras in NYC, and they also allow you to go 10 mph over the actual speed limit. Most NYC streets are 25 mph, but you can go up to 35 mph before it snaps a picture. This Uniden radar gives a warning as soon as I go 25 mph, and it will beep for a long time. By the time it stops beeping, there's already another camera, so the warning barely stops, and it is very annoying. Anyway to turn it off without turning off the speed camera alert?

I just bought the uniden r8 today and I’m kind of confused on how it operates. So does it throw you codes if cops are tracking your speed. Or does it throw you codes when they are near. Any help would be much appreciated .

Got a R3 and R7. Need to watch some comparison videos, but don't feel like either is a slouch. They both actually alert so far ahead that I slow down and then find myself accidentally increasing speed again. R8 looks like the old V1 shape and assume it's a beast. Finally retired my V1 a few monnths ago. Felt guilty removing it from the dash. It payed for itself 10x over, but man BSM was bad and very noisy. KA though never let me down.
I recently swapped from an R4 to an R8. It seems like my R8 doesn’t know the direction of the radar well. In the event the police car is in front of me driving my same direction, it comes on and off, and shows multi directions for the radar I know is in front of me. I have updated the firmware. Anyone else having this experience??
Any update on the Bluetooth/App features?

Uniden R8 might have better filtering than the Uniden R4 and has arrows but it's not as good as the R4 when it comes to Ka range. Sent Uniden more than one email regarding this, what you pay for the Uniden R8 it should be as good if not better finding Ka than the R4.

This is cool but a radar detector that saves your gps data kinda seems like something you may not want evidence of lol. Still cool though.
So don’t use the third party apps or simply disable the app’s logs if you’re concerned? lol
@@VortexRadar I'm not concerned I was just saying gps data being saved of you going certain speeds in certain locations almost defeats the purpose of a radar detector. It's prob the coolest one I've seen though so still cool like I said haha. Every other thing has gps now anyway
Range on the r8 does not impress me. The r8 range for rear detection is better than the r3 but both front detection are on par.
Do you have a link to your test that shows that? The many many head to head tests done all show the R8 outperforming the R3.
@vortexradar no doubt the r8 out performs the r3 overall. I am just talking about front detection for radar. Seems exactly the same for front detection. I ran the r3 for 6 or 7 years over 160k miles put on it always kept it plugged in. I just sold the r3 and bought the r8 2 days ago...i love the rear detection and arrows are so helpful..the front detection range on r3 seems just as good...iv driven straight arizona utah desert highways and the r3 detected over a mile away. And curved roads with elevation changes detection seems the same..of coarse only with front detection on the r3. Happy with the r8 overall just the front detection seems the same.
Hey Vortex i just picked up my R8 and installed it. I also downloaded your personal settings. I have a 30 minute drive tonight to work so i will test it out. My question is when unit powers on its in auto mode is this ok should it be in highway mode?
I notice you didn't mention it incorrectly identified multiple Ka signals in the threat display. Note it did not do a bogey tone when showing the additional signal it thought it was there...
Sure, it does sometimes show multiple signals like that due to overdriving when the gun is super close. That happens with lots of detectors and can be useful when I wanna demo features like this, haha.
As for the mute, good eye! I did mute the Ka signal off camera which is why when you see the Ka signal pop up in the video, it was already muted. I’d have to check the original footage, but it’s very possible I cut the new bogey tone part, especially since I wanted the detector quiet while I was pointing stuff out. That part of the video was focused on the all threat display, not bogey tones.
