LEAD FROM BEHIND is on a mission to make colon cancer famous.
We're raising awareness that #ColonCancer is The Preventable Cancer.
► Colon cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in America. 1 in 24 Americans gets colon cancer. It doesn’t need to be - because it’s preventable.
► The best way to prevent colon cancer is by getting a colonoscopy when you turn 45. The guidelines changed in 2021 lowering the age from 50 to 45.
► People don’t want to talk about colonoscopies, let alone get one. We’re using humor and heart to change that.
► Colon cancer is rising in young people - predicted to be the top cancer killer for people under 50 by 2030.
LEAD FROM BEHIND is founded by Brooks Bell, powered by @colorectalcanceralliance, and created in partnership with Maximum Effort & Chrysi Philalithes.

The dr. said "just a few seconds" and the last thing I remember saying was "there it is." I woke up with my wife in the recovery room and after talking to her for a few seconds, found out that I had been awake for several minutes and had even talked to the dr. about the results. Took the at home blood in stool test. It came back negative. I also started having diahrea, change in bowel habits. Then towards the end of 2020 I became anemic. Noticed blood about once a month and bowel movements were 4 to 6 times a day. In 2021 I couldn't leave the house because I needed to be near a toilet. Anemia was very bad. Also had gassy rumbling in rectum area, if that makes sense. Especially when waking up in morning. Also, as soon as I woke up in the morning I had to go. Finally had a colonoscopy in August 2021 and surgery in September 2021. Couple weeks before surgery I started having the ribbon like stools. I casually went out for lunch afterwards, not anticipating any alarming news. However, that afternoon, I was met with the grave expression of my doctor, who informed me of a small tumor in my rectum. This quickly led to a series of additional scans and consultations. I am currently in the recovery phase following a 7 hour surgery.

Thankfully I had no metastases, but the lining inside my abdomen tested positive. Had a great surgeon...he left me with a double-barrel colostomy, but he intentionally did it in a way so that it could be reversed later. I went through chemo and a long recovery, but survived long enough to get that colostomy reversed. I'm 55 now and considered cured, but no one else I went through chemo with survived. I have my criticisms of western medicine, but this is a fairly low risk procedure that with early detection can save your life.

I'm 27 and I've had over 50 surgeries since I was 2. So the operating room is all too familiar. To see Rob and Ryan at the hospital like that does a really good job humanizing the celebrity status. Just a cool reminder that they're people too and anything can happen to anyone.

Thanks for the awareness guys! There are those who either don't think about it, or, think it'll be too hard to do, but you've managed to nail down both!
I'll be doing it for sure when I come of age (I haven't said that in a long time) and I hope everyone else does too!

Being a long term sufferer of IBD, ulcerative Colitis, I cannot stress how important good gut health is and that you get yourself checked out. It is literally a life saver. Just wish my doctors would schedule mine a bit more regularly.

@@melanieinhobson3595 however that's the issue with my local hospital. You have to jump through hoops to be seen again. I'm supposed to see my GI consultant firstly every year, (in reality when they remembered to make an appointment) that changed to every three years, as I manage it quite well.
Colonoscopies went from every year (in reality every two years) to every three years and then if we really need to. Covid meant appointments were cancelled and I haven't seen a GI consultant for about five years. And I'm in a high risk group for bowel cancer.
Sometimes you need to monitor and manage it yourself because no one else will.

My Dad got his first colonoscopy at 65 years old!. He is totally old school, Irish through and through. I prepared his prep etc but he said he felt nothing and everyone in the ward who had it done were passing gas left, right and centre but not him!!lol. I didn't have the heart to tell him he was the only one there!!!. Great message Rob and Ryan. Huge 'It's always Sunny...' fan. Be well all.💕🙏

This is an amazing video, I am living proof that that colonoscopy saves lives. I had my first one this may at 47 (I delayed it because of COVID). The doctors removed a 45mm polyp (no that is not a typo..) from my colon. The pathology showed that this was one huge ball of cancer... but the bad stuff didn't go down the stem to the bowel wall and the margins were clean, meaning once he removed the polyp, I was cancer free.. The worst part of the whole this is the prep, but the procedure is easy.. I can not stress enough if you are of age or have colorectal cancer in your family history, consult a physician and schedule it NOW!!!! #LeadFromBehind

Thanks for showing how easy this important procedure is. I tell everyone I know it's a piece of cake. Spending quality time in the bathroom for prep isn't that fun, but come on - seriously a small price to pay for something that could save your life. The more you can help dispell fear about colonoscopies, the more people will be helped - thanks!
