The Leica M10 in 2024 - I have always wanted the M10, I had the M240 and it never scratched that itch. The M10 does exactly that, I hope you enjoy these photos and video of why I purchased this camera.

The interesting thing about people who say that Leica's are for rich people, etc...they never talk about the common trend of people spending thousands and thousands of dollars on some Sony, Fuji, etc setup...and then literally a year later they do the same process all over again for the next "trendy" model that's released. leica owners tend to keep their cameras for years, so in the long run ,it actually ends up being cheaper to own.
You’re so right. I wish I would have used that nugget in there! Great point, thanks for watching 🙏🏼🙏🏼 like all the x100v people that paid too much just because it costs more at that point in time and now have to have the x100vi 😅
Great point!
💯
And they keep their value so actual cost of ownership is LOWER. I have an M10-P that I purchased used almost two years ago that I can sell for the same amount today. Cost of ownership if I were to sell now? $0 I purchased a Panasonic S1H at the same time that I would take almost a $3k loss on if I sold today.
Leica users do the same but with $8000 bodies of pop
This was fun to watch. I am a doctor, but not all doctors earn tons of money (misconception out of the way). I guess nor do all lawyers, at that. I’ve been taking pictures for about 50 years now and it took me over 30 years to set the money aside for a Leica; priorities getting in the way. Regarding the actual cost instead of initial cost: I bought an M6ttl about 10 years ago for 1100€. I’d have no problem selling it these days for at least 1600€. So it’s not as if you’re throwing money away. And of course the main thing is that you get to work with a superb tool. Glad you’re enjoying it as much as I do!
@@bertushofstra8246 thanks for watching. I know all doctors and lawyers don’t all earn tons of money, it’s a quote that is very popular. I am enjoying it very much so thanks!
Leicas holds values. I buy only used Leica gears for better long term cost saving. My M10 drops only maybe 5-8% since the day i bought used 3 years ago. At the same time my Sony dropped almost 50% in just few years. It is not just for the rich people. It is actually good for people count dollars and cents in long term.
Very nice way of looking at it, good investment. Thanks for watching and subscribing!.
Congrats dude! The experience of using a Leica cannot be beat.
Agreed. Thanks so much. I had the M240 but the whole time using it I knew what I really wanted. Love your channel 👏🏼
Agreed!
@@hunterhart1 Thanks man!
I too love the tactile experience of the missing the shot. It's all about the feel, and microcontrast 3D pop.
I just picked up a Leica M9 to try the CCD sensor and its also my first go at a real rangefinder manual focus experience. I can totally relate to sweat equity thing, I’m so used to my Sony’s or Fuji’s giving me real time displays and tracking AF, it makes using the M9 such a crazy new style of photography. The M9 might blow highlights even more than the 10 so contrasts scenes are a rough go for me so far. Also I got into photography like 2015-2016 and learning that the M9 practical ISO range is max 800-1000 is crazy from what I’m used to on my Fujis. Enjoy the camera man. All I have so far is the Voigt 40 1.4
I would love to try an M9 just for the sensors sake. That’s a great lens! Glad you are enjoying the analog feel.
I got my first Leica when I was a student (a really old screw-lens model IIIf with a f3.5 50mm lens). It was a present from my father. That was in the early 1970s. I’ve since updated and got more lenses, but tbh it took years to acquire my kit. Decades of hard work! You appreciate it more, that way, I believe you appreciate it more that way.
Thanks for sharing! And subscribing!
Great video Hunter. I commented on Threads on it too (firefighter)
I loved the little barrage of photos at the end, I’d have loved to see them slowed down too. I own the Q3 now.
Story went like this- was all Fuji, sold it all, got Sonys for weddings, picked up a Q2 for me, fell in love with it. Then got sucked in with the X100Vi hype, sold my Q2 and got one- realised I’d made a massive mistake and sold it, did what I should have done, got a Q3. Absolutely love it and know it will be with me for years, much like one of the comments on here.
You seem like a very cool guy from what I see on here- if you are ever in Scotland hit me up for a beer and some camera geek out!
Ayyy what’s up! The Q system is one of my favorites (and one of my best performing videos) I had one for several years but it got tired. Got a M240 a few years ago and didn’t love it. I always wanted this camera just couldn’t pay for it or justify it anyway. I’ll have a Q again one day, they’re the best! Cheers man, thanks again for what you do 🚒
Also……when you get to grips with Leicas, they tend to be “keepers!!”
Outstanding build quality and so tactile that they make you want to take pictures!!
I speak from experience and they hold their value like no others!!
Thanks for sharing!
Got one myself as soon as it came out years ago. My first digital Leica after years of shooting Leica film cameras. I love it. Congrats. You’ll love it.
Thanks so much for sharing
Finally! A realistic perspective! Thank you. (M10R shooter…)
🙏🏼🙏🏼 thanks for watching!
I've had my M240 for nearly ten years and the pleasure of using it and even just holding it have never stopped.
@@sholtham1 that’s awesome!
Same. Just hoping it lasts!
You deserve it dude. Enjoy. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. I know it’ll be absolute magic in the truest sense of the word.
Bro. Just when I thought this channel couldn’t get any better, u whip out a custom bike?!! I’d love to see more of that in the future (with gloves tho😂). Really great video and congrats on the camera dude
I actually just lost my gloves 😩 thanks so much for watching. I love my bike too, took forever to build.

The quality of your videos far exceeds the recognition they receive, keep up the exceptional work man. This video was beautifully made and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Wow, thank you so much for that. I really really appreciate it 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Dang Hunter... You made it buddy! You and your big shnoz deserve it! Hope you know, even though i diss leica, im really jelly my dude. Hope i'll be holding my own m-something one day. Congrats and great job showing it off and breaking it down. Happy snapping!
Thanks man, I really am happy that it works well for my huge nose 😅. I know you’ll have one eventually. Hell you have enough film cameras to buy 3 Leicas 😅
Shot a pair of 240's for a few years and really enjoyed them and then replaced them with an M10 a couple of years ago that I just love. Also shoot with a Q..
@@mwales2112 that’s awesome thanks for sharing 🤙🏼
Congrats man 🎉 I’ve been following you since you were shooting with the Leica Q. Can’t wait to see more shots on the M10.
Woah that’s been a while! Hope you didn’t miss the M240 videos (kind of horrible compared to my newer videos 😅) thanks so much for sticking around. I really appreciate it 🙏🏼
Fantastic video Hunter! The journey is a huge part of the story for the camera. Also, great edits and jumping around. You put a lot of work into this one! Loved it
Thanks Josh! It was a tough one to put together. Really appreciate it🙏🏼
The best combo is Leica glass on a Fuji body. The DR 400 mode on the Fuji gives 3 to 5 stops of highlight retention. Is not about the correct exposure. This is about getting a much more filmic rolloff on highlights..
The modern amenities of a Fuji body like an EVF, and with the x transform 4 sensor fast read out combined with the Leica glass truly gives you a vintage image . Don’t forget about those film simulations, which give you some amazing out of camera results, especially with your own custom set up. The highlight and shadow tone curves gives you exceptional control on the image.
Plus, the reality that Digital bodies are subject to digital rot. Something that is not immune from.
Thanks man, I have tons of fujifilm reviews as well if you’d like to watch those!
I just love all of your photos man...!!
I have the M10 for almost 2 years now.
I'm saying the same thing. You have to work more for you results. More actual Skill is needed
to get a great result!
I also got a Q3. And most of the time I take my Q3 with me. Mostly the close focus distance of my 35 1.4 Voigtländer of 70cm is annoying :D
The Q3 gets so close in comparison. And the 28mm Summilux is hard to beat.
But the Shooting style with the M10 is just really lovely.
I'm happy that you got one!!
And this video here was top notch! Really cool angles and scenes throughout!!
Ayyy thanks ask much man. The Q is great, one of my favorite cameras that I’ve owned! I love the min focus on it as well with the crispy 28mm 👏🏼. The M is annoying with the min focus distance, makes you think a lot more which sometimes can be helpful but annoying, either way it’s a joy to use. Thanks so much for watching and for subscribing 🙏🏼
Your best video yet! I loved watching this. I will probably never own a Leica, but if I do go buy one I will watch this video before I go get it and after I get home with it. And every year on the Leica's birthday.
😅😅😅 thanks man!
Hell yeah brother! Welcome to the Leica family, you 100% have the right mindset about Leicas man. Wonderful shots! Can't wait to see more of them in the future!
It’s actually my 4th Leica 😂 I’ve just always wanted the M10 but settled for M240 and the SL + the Q. It’s good to be back though. I have TONS of Leica videos on this channel, you should consider subscribing and checking them out 🙏🏼
I think you are spot on regarding why getting this camera. Thx for sharing, and congrats.
Thanks so much for watching!
I love my M10. The only thing is that ist is hard for other people (wife) to take photos of you or shoot with one hand (beer or baby in the other)
😅 amen, that’s why you have to settle for the Q. Compromises 😂
Glad you got one, dude ! It would be so hard to not have the M system once you've had it !
I had the M240 previously and I agree, it is hard not to have it once you’ve had one. Thanks for watching and subscribing 🙏🏼
Love my m11 I’ve been shooting Leica since 2015 and love it so much!
That is great!
I agree whit all that. I’m in the half way to get there, meanwhile I shoot with a Fujifilm xpro3 using the optical viewfinder with a mitakon 35mm f/0.95 and I feel close to the 3d pop of a Leica with a pretty nice manual focus experience.
Mitakon makes some great lenses, that’s a great option in my opinion. Keep on keeping on!
1:58 This photograph looks amazing on a big screen TV, maybe because of The Dark Knight vibes. It looks like it was shot on a bigger sensor camera.
Ahh thanks, that was such a great lighting opportunity. It was hitting just right. Thanks so much for watching

Great video, love the comedy in it too! Great touch.
Thank you so much ✌🏻
The ‘blown highlights’ thing is a bit of a myth for me with this camera. I have zero problems shooting with it once you 1. Shoot underexposed and 2. Learn how to edit the files which is a joy to experience how they behave. It’s all there! You justness to step away from being spoilt by modern tech :)
That’s literally what I said in the video 😅 underexpose to protect the highlights. Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Great video Hunter... fun too! I agree with you. I'm an amateur photographer really enjoying my M8. Maybe someday an M10? Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks for watching. I hear nothing but great things about the M8 actually, I think some people prefer it over the full frame cameras. I’d love to try one out one day! Thanks so much for watching and subbing 🙏🏼
Love this video! Kinda defines what I love about Leica. My (hopefully) next purchase will be a Leica M240 - once I’ve saved up, anyways!
I’m so glad, that’s exactly what I was trying to embody with this. The M240 is fantastic, you’ll love it for sure! Keep on saving, you got this 💰

Maaan, this video was bonkers! Really well done and I am subscribed now :) I use a Fuji x pro3 & x100vi but I been looking at Leicas lately. The x100vi could almost finance a M240 completely or I could sell all my lenses and x pro3 and buy maybe the m10. Well, well..I will make it easy and stick to my poor man Leicas for now (x pro3 with Voigtländer lens)
The XPro 3 is one of my favorite cameras, I actually did a video on it a while back. I bought the M10 because I wanted it since it's release date. It will not make me a better photographer, just a goal I set for myself a long time ago. I have had 4 Leicas now and the only one that I feel really amped up my game was the Leica Q solely because of the lens on it. I would not read too much into the hype of these cameras, the X100 series and XPro series are amazing. Here is a video on the XPro 3 that you may want to watch! czcams.com/video/ilRxUh141vE/video.htmlsi=ejK0Yt6-Jzw4Y7My
@@hunterhart1 thanks for the linke and that's another good video. The x pro3 with Voigtländer lenses with the X Mount are fun to use but I got four kids, one being a baby and I can't be shooting manual focus lenses every time. I switch things up with Voigtländer lenses if I have the time and that's good, but I would try a proper rangefinder one day. I will wait for the x pro4 and see what's up. If it's any good I could sell my cameras, buy the x pro4 and see where it takes me. I don't expect similiar build quality on the four as on the three. The Duratect coating is really something else! Wish Fuji would have made a special edition x100vi with Duratect coating and Titanium top and bottom plate 🥰
@@venom2k2have you considered any AF lenses? Photographing kids/ babies is def hard with MF😅

Nah something to be said for just relaxing taking a shot. M9 and M11 owner myself . Since your finances are probably a hot mess right now don't sleep on the minolta 40mm f2 . Doesn't go for a ton because Leica people only want Leica but the size and character have made it the lens I always bring along .
I actually had that lens with the R3M and it was great. Pretty sure it’s actually a Leica lens, build quality and image quality is so good! How do you like the M9? Thanks for watching!
@hunterhart1 It's an interesting camera with a lot of the same limitations as my old Sony Alpha dslrs from that time period in regards to iso noise and highlight recovery . Like the camera a lot it just requires full intent with every shot like a film camera. Leica no longer repairs them so just going to use it until it bricks.
Bro, you made me laugh so hard, precisely your nose joke, that I had to subscribe to your channel. Congrats on your new acquisition. I know so many doctors and attorneys that they would rather have a camera kit sold at COSTCO instead of getting a fine camera like the Leica. Most of them are point-and-shoot and let the camera and lenses do their magic instead of following the more traditional manual way. When I was 12 (a lifetime ago), an uncle gave me a Yashica Mat 124G. There was no CZcams in 1972 to learn how to take pictures, just trial and error and then shooting again to fix the mistakes. Most of my shooting was done with manual film cameras until last year, when I jumped into the digital realm with a Fujifilm X-T30II and a used X-E3. Why those cameras in particular? They're retro and manual dials. I cannot shake the old habits. I own 13 lenses, and only four are AF; the rest are manual lenses. I do love my Fuji cameras, but I still shoot my Yashicas Mat and my Canons AE1-P. Stay safe🙏.
Thanks so much for sharing and I’m glad I could make you laugh 😅. I have had quite a few Canon AE1s myself, great cameras and easy to use. I myself learned on film (before CZcams), it hasn’t been around that long. I have to say I wasn’t any good for a long time but that’s okay. Fujifilm makes amazing cameras, I have done tons of reviews on them! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!

Super curious about something: what is it the M10 gives you that the M240 did not? I'm currently on the M240 and loving it to death. I totally get why someone might upgrade for better ISO performance- and that handy externalized dial- but is there something larger at play?
Nice shots 🙌 And well done, thought out video. Great alternative to the talking head usual fair.
Hey! Great question. I had the M240 and loved the images that I got out of it but the cameras menu system + buttons drove me insane. On top of that it was so thick in comparison to the M10. Really it’s not the image quality difference, it’s just the build + size and feel overall. Thanks so much for your compliment, it wasn’t an easy video to make 🙏🏼
@@hunterhart1 No, it definitely doesn't look like an easy video to make. I hope to make content that's a bit more planned out and even storyboarded... so this random rec was a really helpful little example.
Thanks for the clear answer. That's kind of how I felt holding the M10 too. Overall it just had that little bit of extra refinement the system needs. I'll beat my M240 to death, knowing that when it keels the M10 is waiting. Maybe by then I'll have enough cash aside to pick it up ha.
@@SourPlanet I would definitely wait too. It is not that big of a difference to change over but if you ever get the opportunity, it would feel a little nicer. Good plan!
The price seems crazy then I look at my camera bag. 3 RF lenses equaling almost $9000.
