This is outrageous! This kind of video is the proof that you really need to look into what you're taking into account on the internet. I'd really suggest all of you viewers to take a look at the transcript and go look into those sources.
No, Switzerland does not have a so-called "Golden-Pass-policy". What you obtain by investing in our country is a Visa type D (for long-term stay), which doesn't mean that you get our citizenship. Consequently you do NOT get the full protection of Swiss law because you are no Swiss citizen with a simple Visa D. Should you want to get the Swiss citizenship, you'd still have to spend at least 12 years paying taxes in Switzerland to be eligible. Then you'd still have to successfully pass a complicated procedure where your national knowledge, criminal record, foreign interests are notably put under scrutiny.
No, Cantons are NOT the responsible authority for immigration policies. Art. 121(1) of our federal Constitution states clearly that "the Confederation is responsible for legislation on entry to and exit from Switzerland, the residence and the permanent settlement of foreign nationals and on the granting of asylum." Therefore, should foreign citizens become a problem to our internal/external order, the Confederation has the full power to expel them (see our Federal Act on Foreign nationals for the details).
Your video is misleading and it's a shame. We've implemented European economic sanctions just like all other European countries. The gold from the UK may have been Russian gold in the past but what we're buying right now is English gold. The truth is I still don't see the link between this business and the fact that we help Russia and its war on Ukraine. In fact, the UK has stopped buying Russian gold before or right after the war began. Following the sanctions' program, we've stopped buying Russian gold as well. The business that we have with the UK benefits us and them, no third party.
At the end of the day I feel like such videos are made in the sole purpose of criticizing Swiss neutrality, which profoundly bothers those of us who want everyone to systematically choose a side. After all, every type of conflict is lucrative indeed, and you need two opposing sides to get a conflict...

    • @fluffybunny5518
      @fluffybunny5518 Před 8 měsíci +31

Yep, you’re right. It is not possible to buy Swiss Citizenship i.e. a passport. OBF is confusing citizenship i.e. buying a swiss passport with a permit to stay resp. the “Aufenthaltsbewilligung B”. Because with the second one it is indeed possible to get into Switzerland through negotiation with a cantonal body. This is due to a loophole where people can be given such a permit to live in Switzerland if there is a public interest. The problem is some cantons have a different interpretation of what constitutes as public interest. The video should probably mention that over half of all countries in the world have similar schemes.

But, given that I flew-in from Western Asia, I had to land in Geneva. But dude, Lausanne and Montreux are gorgeous. I enjoyed walking, hiking, and trekking throughout the breathtaking scenery. I also made it to the German-speaking city of Bern, just like five years ago, which incidentally, was the same day Kofe Annan passed away in, five years ago, in Bern, when I made my way into the city 😅. I also visited Freiburg, given that the train makes a stop there, on the train from Geneva to Bern. I found the French-speaking Swiss way friendlier, just like five years ago. But yeah, Geneva is definitely overhyped and overrated. Not to mention extremely expensive. But you guys have an amazing country. Switzerland is militarily neutral. We do not want to be part of an active war. That is why we are not even allowed to export weapons and ammunition to war zones. There is a civil war in Yemen with international participation. No other country is actively at war with Yemen, which is why the legal basis here tends to allow arms exports.

If everybody else is retarded enough to get engulfed in endless wars, it's only fair to ensure your own people are going to be well off. Most conflicts are caused by imperialistic asshats who have a mindset that wouldn't be out of place in the 18 hundreds.
Regarding the apathy you're talking about, the Swiss have been flooding Ukraine with both humanitarian and lethal aid (NLAW) since day 1 of the Russian invasion. They did much more than most.

Switzerland has maintained a policy of neutrality for centuries, which means it hasn't actively engaged in wars. This neutrality dates back to the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648, which ended the Thirty Years' War. Since then, Switzerland has pursued a policy of armed neutrality, meaning it maintains a strong military but does not engage in military aggression against other nations. This neutrality has been upheld even during major conflicts such as World War I and World War II, making Switzerland a safe haven and a hub for diplomacy and international organizations. so yes, basically, your somewhat a bit right

Yes, I agree. it's incredible so many believe that Russia blew up Nordstream 2, just because Russia is the enemy and blowing things up is the kind of nasty thing that enemies do. The German government just seemed to accept this violent interference in their economy, staggering. Germany wasn't neutral, but it wasn't independent in the conflict either. It reminds me of the way we in the UK mined Norwegian waters in WW2 to cut off their trade with Germany, when Norway was supposed to be neutral. Here are a few proofs of Switzerland "neutrality":
    - Switzerland traded with both sides during WWII
    - Switzerland allowed US military planes to fly over its territory for NATO mission
    - Switzerland provided financial support to UNITA rebels in Angola
    - Switzerland provided refuge to Nazi officials and collaborators during WWII
    - Switzerland participated in UN peacekeeping missions
    - In the 1970s, Switzerland sold arms to the apartheid government of South Africa, despite international sanctions.
    - Switzerland was accused of allowing the transfer of Nazi gold and other assets into Swiss banks during and after World War II.
    - In the 1980s, Switzerland sold arms to Iran during the Iran-Iraq War, despite an international arms embargo.
    - During the Korean War, Switzerland allowed the US to use its railway system to transport military goods to the Korean Peninsula.
    - Switzerland also allowed the US to use its airspace during the Vietnam War, and provided the US with intelligence on North Vietnam.
    - During the 1990-1991 Gulf War, Switzerland sold military equipment to both sides, including to Iraq before the war began. This included equipment such as communications devices, night vision goggles, and other military gear.
    - In the early 2000s, Switzerland was accused of providing military support to rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by selling them weapons and ammunition. The groups were fighting against the DRC government and the Rwandan army, which had invaded the country. Switzerland denied the accusations, but investigations found that Swiss-made weapons were being used in the conflict.
    - During the 1990s, Switzerland sold military equipment to Indonesia, despite the country's human rights abuses in East Timor. The equipment included fighter jets, helicopters, and spare parts.
    - In the 1980s, Switzerland sold military equipment to Chile, which was then under the rule of General Augusto Pinochet. The equipment included weapons, aircraft, and tanks.
    - During the Rwandan genocide in 1994, Switzerland sold military equipment to the Rwandan government, which was then controlled by the Hutu regime. The equipment included firearms, grenades, and ammunition.

The proceeds of this auction (which was attended by people such as Guggenheim) went towards funding the invasion of Poland. Also, during the war itself Switzerland colluded with both parties, transporting and hospitalizing injured Nazi soldiers in for example the Kanton Hospitals of Bazel and Aarau, as well as informing the locations of Jewish people outside of Switzerland through their Swiss relatives. If you attempt to find concrete history on these topics, you will find a suspicious gap in most Swiss public archives of them between 1939 and 1946.

How does it help Russia, when Switzerland buys Russian gold from the UK? The UK already paid for it, so it's not like Russia gets any more money, rather the opposite, the UK, on of the biggest military support of Ukraine gets money from Switzerland. So buying that gold helps Ukraine more than Russia.

Neutrality means military neutrality, which also tends to imply moral neutrality i.e choosing not to judge other people and other countries. The risks of this approach are obvious, you become a pariah to at least one or more national alliances.
