Great points by Bassam about the ugly truths of what Syria has become. He helps us acknowledge, yes, the horror that russia brings, but also the many mistakes and ignorance that the West has committed with regards to Syria. What he said about russia learning from pushing Syrians out of the country with civilian terror attacks and repeating these tactics in Ukraine is spot on! Had not thought about it how creating this migration crisis is a tried and true tactic for them. Bassam was a great guest, as have been many of your recent guests!

Great guest, insightful and important conversation, thank you! Now I have even more sympathy towards the Syrians who've suffered so much from the Assad/Putin regime and, in addition to that, had to also suffer in this terrible earthquake...

Thanks for this conversation! It is very useful to listen to such cases of dictators in order to develop strategies for quick response to each one. Dictators understand only the language of force. Democratic countries should understand this and not be afraid to retaliate with force. After receiving a bite, the dictator will crawl into his bunker and be afraid

Thanks Павло Масаренко for all the support and advocation for Ukraine, however, certain points in the discussion rubbed me the wrong way. 'russia has nothing', 'russia has nonexistent logistics', 'russia doesn't have spare parts'. I understand that these points come from the need to discredit russia as a military force so that general public is not afraid of them as much as they used to be, but in my opinion it's going too far. As we can see, russia has enough spare parts to go by for at least 2 years of an all-out war, it has capacity to hold onto supply roads, it has superb fortifications engineering capabilities, it has a lot of human meat and enough stockpiles of all sorts of equipment and ammunition that is just neverending. In all honesty, we should understand that in a country on country scenario there're probably no five countries that would come up on top against them without external support. Not due to russia's might or sth ofc, just due to their military heritage from soviet times and gradually disarmed formerly soviet countries. This narrative discredits Ukraine, too, as people fail to understand how much of an underdog Ukraine still is and how hard it is on Ukrainians, still having air raid alerts pretty much daily, often multiple times a day. Not meaning to discourage ofc, as I believe we do have the upper hand at this point, but albeit I and - I'm pretty sure - basically all sane Ukrainian are grateful for all the support, I regrettably have to admit it does come up short, being extremely inconsistent and unreliable in many regards. Sorry for the rant and once again thanks for the advocation.
