This interview clearly shows the stark differences between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine, more European and aspirational. Russia, repressed and still inward looking.
Of the Russians and Ukrainians I've spoken with over the past 2 years, I did not hear talk of aspiration, personal development or future possibilities among Russians. But for Ukrainians, personal growth, dreams of a bright future and a spirit of entrepreneurialism have all been common themes. Ukraine is very deserving of our collective support.
And Ms. Mendel's story offers additional justification for this statement.

I think you are absolutely right. The Russian people I've seen through this period seem to be apolitical. While the Russians who most benefit from the Russian economy live in Moscow or central Russian, support for Putin seems to run throughout the country. They believe the propaganda and support whatever the government chooses to do. This is a country with vast natural resources. Resources the world needs. There should be no reason for massive unemployment and destitute people in the far reaches of the country. I believe allegations that there is widespread corruption where those in control at each level take what they can. It could be that the government squashes political dissent but I do not think that is it entirely. It is rather like what is conveyed in the book "1984". Overwhelming propaganda and repressed thought to such an extent that people no longer think on their own. I don't know how Ukraine became different that Russia but it clearly is. Just listen to the people who managed to stick it out in or near their homes during the occupation. There is a difference.

Russias corruption is second to none , just look at the Russian army , but you were referring to Ukraine , right?
      So,
Ukraine was the poorest country in Europe , having the lowest GDP per -capita and was well known for huge problems with corruption .
The last openly pro - Russian president of Ukraine was ousted out in 2014 after the Revolution of Dignity took place and Lukashenko escape to Russia with $32 billions in cash of Ukrainian government money stashed in trucks crossing border to Russia before his escape.
During his stay in office Lukashenko embezzled $ 100 billions from the coffers of Ukrainian government.
That amount equal to half of Ukrainian economic output in 2013.
The money went to Western European :/ US banks , as well east - to Russia.
Lukashenko was convicted in absentia of fraud, embezzlement, murder ( he gave an order to shot at protester , people died ) and treason.
He is living in Russia supporting financially Russian - separatists in Donbas since Russia invaded those Ukrainian regions in 2014 .
That’s a very short story of Ukrainian corruption.
The country of Ukraine and it’s people need a free, sovereign country without Russian control /interference .
That would be beneficial not only to Ukraine itself , but to all of Europe and all of free, democratic world.

Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
    Let it fill the air
    Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
Hey there, Mister Black Man can you hear me?
I don't want your diamonds or your game
I just want to be someone known to you as me
And I will bet my life you want the same
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
    Let it fill the air
    Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
Seven hundred million are you listening?
Most of what you read is made of lies
But speaking one to one, ain't it everybody's sun
To wake to in the morning when we rise?
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
    Let it fill the air
    Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
    Brother Solzhenitsyn, are you busy?
If not, won't you drop this friend a line?
And tell me if the man, who is plowing up your land
Has got the war machine upon his mind?
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
    Let it fill the air
    Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
No doubt some folks enjoy doing battle
Like presidents, Prime ministers and kings
So let's all build them shelves where they can fight among themselves
And leave the people be who love to sing.
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
    Let it fill the air
    Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
Let it fill the air, tell the people everywhere
We, the people, here don't want a war...

Like so many other Ukrainians , She is a very intelligent and impressive woman . I love the country of Ukraine and I love Ukrainians . All Ukrainians speak with one voice ! Zelensky goes to the front lines and shakes hands with the troops ! All these actions are that of a civilized freedom loving country ! Such a breath of fresh air , much different then that of Russia !
Putin sits in his bunker and meets military people at the end of a 30' table . Putin would never go to the front lines and meet with troops, He would be too frightened that they would kill him !
No negotiations can take place with Putin while As long as Russian troops are in side the border of Ukraine Post
February 24 at the least . And everyone needs to be perfectly clear that Putin cannot be trusted or believed . Every precaution for future protection of Ukraine must be taken and agreed to. Most importantly Russia needs to be held toTerms of Reparations !

I've been saying the same thing for weeks now, being polite as Putin has been does not win you wars. The cause was noble at the beginning of the special operation but since the collective West have all but taken over the conflict i8nto an all-out war against Russia and if Putin does not open his eyes, he will be eliminated or at the very best replaced.
For a man that felt repulsion for Gorbachev it seems to me he's following on his footsteps with his ideas of "let's all get along and I can convince my enemies to change their behavior". Didn't work for the former and it won't work for him.
It's beyond me as to why he hasn't pulverized Kiev, as I also have said "Cut the head of the snake and the body will wither but will not bite you". Stalin would've done it long ago.
If he continues to pussyfoot around and push his ideological bullshit, they will lose it all if there is an economic downturn that goes against them.
The time to get ahead is when you are ahead and as we can see from what is happening in the battlefield, is that complacency is the enemy of victory.
