The Russians announced last week that they were willing to help any group in the USA achieve secession if they wanted it. However, if the GOP encourages its white supremacist Trumpite terrorists to carry out MORE acts of terrorism against the government and people of the United States, not even the US military will be able to stop the American people from hanging the entire GOP by their heels like Mussolini and turning them into human pinatas. It is absolutely true that online voting can be made secure. However, in the current climate, there is no way that change can be made in the near future. It will happen eventually. I imagine FRS to confirm who logged on and a one-use password for the vote may be the way to go, but right now the deniers are convinced in-person paper ballots are the only secure vote. Of course, this is not secure and is often used by autocracies in less affluent countries to maintain power.

    Back when I lived in Vermont I used to listen to NPR while I was making dinner. One night that I recall clearly, there was a journalist reporting from Kosovo in real time. There were descriptions of people heading to work being shot at. I thought at the time, this could be New York City, where I'd lived for 2You could hear the shots being fired.0 years. In America when we visualize Civil War, we tend to think of Rebels and Yankees on horseback, Sherman's march the sea, and Gettysburg. All of those are images are hard wired into our brains. No one thinks about someone going to work in NYC, on the subway, on foot, and being shot dead by a sniper. Same for Boston, Chicago, LA, or any other city in the United States. But we are years beyond Kosovo now, and this interview rolls out what a Civil War in the United States would look like. Will look like?
    My interest in the Civil War in America began at age 13 and went forward for decades until it became too sad to continue. All those pictures of dead and dying soldiers on both sides, all of the personal stories, the letters home, the prisoners taken on both sides. Ken Brown showed us the naked reality of it.
    But this. The gerrymandering, the packing of the courts, the normalization of racism, antisemitism, misogyny, the cancellation of not just women's rights, but human rights, the blatant lying when the truth is so easily proven--all of this has been going on in front of us for decades. certainly since 1980. But because no one was one horseback, because there were no huge battles being fought by the military on both sides, and probably because Ken Brown hadn't made a documentary about it, as he no doubt will, we failed to recognize it as a build up to an honest to God, real Civil War. America, Americans have always been naive. One only has to read Henry James to understand that. We know how the last Civil War turned out. This one? I have no idea. I do think it's inevitable though. I envy my deceased parents.

    • @tombeers3489
      @tombeers3489 Před rokem

      Ken Burns is the cinematographer of whom you speak. I agree, his Civil War series is brilliant. You've pretty much nailed the list of the outrageous behavior bringing this country down.
      America can slip into naivete because it is made up of generally upbeat, free-minded people. We wish to be happy and get on with our lives. Unlike other countries we have been immune to invasion during any war since 1812. We have been unified in our firm belief of the strength and forthrightness of America. This undying optimism has often made us blind to threats down the road. We suck at defense. Think Pearl Harbor, 9/11 and now...the rising tide political violence we are seeing.
      Like you, I see some real trouble coming soon, and it will be a right-wing led insurgency which has already begun. As far I see it a civil war has two sides and right now only one is making the threats. If this continues I sincerely hope the other side rises up against it. My major concern is when does this side - being far less prone to hate-mongering, prejudice and violence - say they have had enough. I can see a day when I will have had enough.

  • @truth2power463
    @truth2power463 Před rokem +1

    Excellent viewpoint. I would suggest that one of the reasons why "democracy doesn't work" for right-wing white men any longer, is that they NEVER sought democracy in the first place. As you point out quite eloquently, they were used to a rigged game, a pocket ace. They were accustomed to the system regarding them as the purveyors of the first best choices in America, followed by a doling out of lesser opportunities for all of the people they never characterized as worthwhile from the beginning. Now that people of all colors and ethnicities are standing in defiance of this inequitable paradigm, their true confederate colors are shining through.
    The fact is, they never WANTED to compete. They wanted everything handed to them by a racially corrupt system, and now that they have to compete, equality feels like discrimination to THEM.

With weeks of early voting, & a ballot drop box at the end of every driveway in the country these unsecured, & unmonitored ballot drop boxes are simply election fraud machines where individuals can drop off 100's, or 1000's of illegally cast, legally invalid ballots
      & there is no mechanism in place to even detect these simple methods of election fraud. 2,000 Mules, a documentary film from film maker Dinesh D'Souza, showed official government videos of multiple ballot mules depositing dozens of LIVE ballots in one ballot drop box, after another in the same swing state big cities, day, after day, during the weeks of early voting, at all hours of the day, & night, carefully filming themselves dropping off roughly 10 ballots at a time, so they can be paid by the election fraud ring leaders, for each illegal ballot they deposit into the election fraud machines {ballot drop boxes}.
