    One thing to remember was Yugoslavia wasn’t a part of the Warsaw Pact. But BEFORE Yugoslavia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, etc. hated each other.

    I love her historical insights and equating it with what’s happening now. It’s not rocket science! We have studies from history up to today which teach us exactly what is happening now in the USA and what we can expect from the current political climate. I could listen to her talk for hours

    Her example of how Milosevic used a strategy to "other" the Croats sounds similar to the speech Biden gave Sept. 2nd, 2022. Curious as to what her opinion is on Bidens speech.

      @@toddswanson3676 Would you be open to recommending other works that you've found interesting?
      Top of mind comes Philippe Gigantès' 'The Secret History of the Rulers of the World: The Power & Greed of the Grand Acquisitors' was recommended to me by a colleage, ten years ago; It covers ~3500 years of history, including rulers who were x) bent on acquisition, often at any [human] cost, and y) law-makers, bent on controlling the chaos. The author's choices of political leaders were often nuanced, which was appreciated.
      Joseph Campbell's 'The Hero With a Thousand Faces' and Stephen Fry's recent Greek-mythology series, particularly 'Heroes', I'd rushed to get back to, though they're not political-science; But Ray Dalio's 'Principles' I'm enjoying, right now, and am happy to recommend it.

      Democracy is mob rule.

      That's it- There'so much room for responsible fiscal conservatism, business legislation, and so on, within the ability to vote for representation. Autocracy is a hell of a step backward into threateningly risky territory; Capital flees areas of instability and a civil war would have horrifyingly, broadly bad effects on the standard of living.

      The CIA cannot allow her to study the United States. As she was working on the CIA's behalf, she could not because according to its 1947 charter, it cannot gather intelligence on the United States. Had her work-group included the US, it would have violated the CIA charter.

      @ridethepace6005 Před rokem +2

      Lack of emotion is exactly her point. I would guess that she doesn't lack empathy for those folks, but her message wouldn't be bolstered by being lachrymose. You sound like someone who might be looking for reasons to denigrate the messenger because you can't refute the facts of her message, a tactic similar to people who blame a rape victims because she wore a short skirt. Focusing on the wrong things won't help us out of our mess, but that will take honesty on the part of our citizenry who lay awake at night with fears of a dark skinned horde coming for their stuff.
