This song has a deeper meaning. 'Papa' is translated 'dad' in dutch. Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was 12 and his mom a year later because of a cardiac arrest. When he was younger he watched the Eurovision with his parents and said “I’m gonna sing at Eurovision one day”. Joost sings that no matter where he goes or what he eats, he can not escape the pain of this loss. In the end he says goodbye to the pain of his loss by burning the photo, without losing the memory. This song is also an ode to Europe. His dad told him that it’s a world without borders, because borders are invented by humans. And that you can create your own world. The dance break is happy hardcore - a music style that was invented in the Netherlands, also called gabber music. Bringing a personal loss, the feeling of Europe and the dutch culture together; that is art.
The lyrics have a lot of layers:
    Europe let’s come together!
    It’s now or never!
    I love you all!
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Visit my friends in France
Or take a long walk to Vienna
I want to leave the Netherlands
    But my passport is gone
    Fortunately don't need a visa
    To be with you
So take the bus to Poland
    Or the train to Berlin
I have no money for Paris
    So use my imagination
Do you have a euro please
    Say "merci" and "please"
    I lost everything
    Except time
    So am travelling every day
    For the world is mine
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Eu-ro-pa!
    Ich bin in Deutschland
    Aber Ich bin so allein
    Io sono in Italia
    but still I feel pain
    Am running from myself
Calling for "help!" all day long
Yes I even give people money
But there is no one to help me
    I don't need es-car-gots
    Don't need fish 'n chips
    Don't need paella, no
I don't even really know what that is
    Turn on the radio
    I hear Stromae with "Papaoutai"
    Won't stop until they say
"Yes, yes, he does that very well ey!"
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Eu-ro-pa!
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa….
    Welcome in Europe boy!
At the end of the day
    We are all human beings
    My father once told me
    It's a world without borders
    I miss you every day
    Is what I secretly whisper
    You see dad
    I listened to you
    Is what I secretly whisper
    You see dad
    I listened to you

The song seems very happy (until the end) but it's actually him running away from himself and his pain because he lost both his parents within a year of each other when he was around 12. In the context of the EU, he literally was able to run to many places even without a passport. Lyrics like "I lost everything except time" and "am running from myself calling for help all day long" are definite clues to there being something else going on but it's so contradictory to the music that people just ignore those.
Growing up his family always watched Eurovision and Joost said to his dad that he wanted to be on Eurovision as well. His dad said that he should go for it if that's what he wanted and that the world is a world without borders/limits cause borders are manmade. Joost describes this song as a letter to his dad in particular but it's dedicated to both his parents as you can see at the end. The fire at the end represents him letting go of the pain of the past which he has carried around for too long.

  • @ralphhendriks1460
    @ralphhendriks1460 Před 2 měsíci +131

The song is a letter to his parents who died when Joost was still young. His father told him that since humans invented the borders, he could invent the world, his own world. And so he did! The end with the burning picture and house means that it's time to stop grieving about his parents and step into a new phase in his life.

12 points to The Netherlands. The winner of the Eurovision Songcontest 2024. Nostalgia from the 90's.
9 millions views in 8 days, no1 trending on CZcams, loved from Asia to South America. No1 on Spotify. A hit on TikTok.
Joost said that he will bring a huge surprise on stage in the finals that will shock the world.
This is a masterpiece. Euro papa= Euro dad, because papa is dad in Dutch. A sad song with lyrics with a meaning, with a message, in a happy hardcore melody. A letter to his father who died when he was a 12 year old child. His mother past away a year later. He promised his father that he will be someday on the Eurovision Songcontest stage. His father told him that it is possible because there are no borders between the countries, and no limits to follow his dream. Borders and limitations are made by human. In every country he went, he felt the pain and grief of no having his parents. The fire symbolise letting go of the grief and pain, and the start of a new chapter in his live.

  • @WatjenietzietBestaatniet
    @WatjenietzietBestaatniet Před 2 měsíci +3

Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. There is even a Max Verstappen reference in the build-up. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The windmill is near where he spend his youth so also a trip trough memory lane to him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not be stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival. So winning would be optional, his goal was participation. It is a bit similar to the style of Little Big, a band that never participated and still has the most views on the Eurovision channel by a landslide.

Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.

If you search the personal history of Joost and then put this song and video together, with his story, you will find and understand all the layers:
    - both his parents died in the '90's ( the age of the hardcore etc)
    - he was just a child when that happened ( in an interview about this song and clip he told to never want to loose his inner child, that makes it funny, maybe weird for a lot)
    - his father said the world is without boundaries, but people create boundaries, so you can create the world
    - when he was young, every year he watched the eurovision song festival with his parents and shared his dream with his parents. Which was to also wanted to be there on stage, performing and representing the Netherlands
    - still every where he goes ( in Europe) it doesn't take away the loss and pain
    - the sudden end: from happy hardcore, dancing, smiling, hard!! To....a really abrupt silence, burning his fundament, his family, his house, his home and where he comes from....i think this represents how it was for him to suddenly loose his father...and a year later his mother...from partying and no worries at all....to : wtf...what is happening...a total silence...disbelief and destruction

    Gewoon super relaxed.

super reaction video ❤ have something from the translator about the song below.
(This is the story behind Joost Klein and the meaning of 'Europapa')
This is what Joost said about his song: “Europapa” is a tribute to my father.
The song is a letter I wrote to my father, who died when I was a teenager.
'Europapa' is about an orphan who travels through Europe to find himself and tell his story."
“My father taught me that the world actually has no borders.
He said: 'the borders were invented by people, so you can also imagine the world'.
So go for the causes you believe in.”
Europapa's video clip shows a house on fire. (What does that stand for)
    "When people see my act,
the first response should be, “What's going on here?”
Ultimately, I hope to touch people and make them think.
'Europapa' initially seems like a very cheerful act,
but behind that lies a deeper message.
Sometimes you have to say goodbye to the things that are most dear to you.
And where one door closes, sometimes 30,000 open.
And most of all, I learned that sometimes you perpetuate your own pain.
So actually that letter is also a kind of closure, I dare say.
I want to tell them, 'hey, mom and dad, you will always be there for me, but I can't carry this pain with me forever'.”
(Background What did that have to do with, information from Joost Klein)
Joost Klein (26) is from the Netherlands.
Joost, is a Dutch musician, rapper, singer and former CZcamsr.
He is primarily a hip hop artist and his songs and performances often incorporate influences from electronic music,
such as drum 'n' bass, hardstyle, Happy hardcore and gabber.
    Joost also writes poetry
At the age of twelve he lost his father to cancer.
A year later, in 2011, his mother died of cardiac arrest.
After the death of his parents,
Joost was cared for by his older brother and sister.

The bikes are mobile scooters, specially made for people with mobility issues, the state gives them for free so disabled people are free to go wherever they want. They called scootmobiel.

Next to the story of Joost, even the scooters are a dutch product of a company named "Life and Mobility". And Yes, Voyager with Danny and Simone should have won :D

Yeah! You guys have been great! But still, if you would win, you still would have to find a European country to host it. You are very welcome guests! You were invited for a jubilea and stuck after that and we love you! But if you would win, which is not a stretch, it would still be have to be held somewhere in Europe, because of timezones. 🤷🏼‍♀️😊

    For reference:
    Europa = Europe
    Pa = Dad
    Papa = Dad/Daddy
Hence sometimes he says "Eu-ro-pa" and sometimes "Europa-pa" and sometimes "Eu-ro-pa-pa"

Not a popular opinion maybe, but I always felt like Australia and New Zealand should be part of European events like ESF and the Euro tournaments, you lot are basically family and having Aussies and Kiwis around is always a pleasure and a guarantee for a joyfull atmosphere.
