Thank you. I’m Canadian, live in the USA now, but am a Habs fan for life…. Can’t change that. The 1980 US Olympic team win, however, is the BEST hockey story around. I’ve watched the movie and the documentary more times than I can remember. This is one of the best interviews that I have ever seen, and I applaud you for it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Miracle on Ice still gives me goosebumps. What an awesome run and so many characters on that team. Epic
What an interview. I am now 67 and the one of the greatest sports moments of my life…outside of Bobby Orrs goal.🤛I moved away from NH to all places, Iowa in January 1980 at age 23. It was tough not being able to watch the Bruins…no TV38 there. The only hockey there, was the Olympics but I didn’t have a tv.I went to the local pawn shop to buy a $10 b&w tv , best $10 I’ve ever spent.
Thanku Chris & Tim for this one...still, to date, my favorite hockey moment ever. I was 9 yr old kid that ate, drank & slept hockey. Grew up just over the town line from Jim Craig....this team will always mean so much to me
Great to hear some of the details. Awesome interview.
A local boy with another local boy as a guest! Hi ya Mike and how's things Chris? All the best from eastern MA!
Nice interview. Mike is a down to earth guy….most hockey players are just the best. Good job Chris and Tim !
One of my favorite memories as a kid was watching that team play. Still gives me goosebumps
The movie "Miracle" is a must see.
great film
Never seen the movie Miracle. Gonma watch it this weekend. Great podcast boys
That was awesome, can’t say anymore
I was an eastern mass kid then. We had our last high school basketball game of the season the night that the US beat the Russians. We were just going out on the court when the coach said that the US had beaten them. We thought he was joking. So that Sunday morning was a big deal for me when the finals were played. Sometime the week after the gold medal game Dave Silk, who attended my high school walked into the cafeteria at my school with the hockey coach, with his gold medal, cowboy hat and sheepskin coat (still the coolest US uniforms). What a cool memory. Last thing, Chris Nilan is a better interviewer than most of the “pros” out there.
Great interview I was 15 years old the game was blocked and we found about the score that night. I remember I was so happy I cried biggest upset in all sports.
LOVE your podcast Chris Good luck
I remember watching the Olympics when they won and being only 12 and Canadian I did not realize how huge of a win that was. I remember all the names though. So cool you got him on Knuckles
Everyone in Canada was cheering for u too!! I still don’t know how u guys did it lol…
great interview guys. thanks
A few friends and I were having a discussion once - if you could go back in time and have a ticket to any single sporting event in history, what would it be? We talked about Jesse Owens winning golds in front of Hitler, Babe Ruth calling his shot in the World Series against the Cubs, and so on. But then I brought up the miracle on ice game, and that was it, discussion over!
The 1980 team provided the greatest sports moments in American history. I was never so proud to be an American as I was watching that team. Sadly, I feel my pride has gone forever.
Well done Mike
I remember where I was
Just listening to that guy talk you know he is a leader and champion
A true American hero.
Herb Brooks was cut from USA Hockey team right before the 1960 Olympics. USA won Gold Medal in Squaw Valley 1960
Will always love you bro.k
Check out “the boys of winter” by Wayne Coffey, excellent deep dive into a lot of the small stories and the players and everything regarding the miracle on ice team. Excellent episode boys, Raw Knuckles is my absolute favorite Hockey podcast by a mile.
Use to be able to find the clip of Herb saying you will take it to your grave, but no longer as far as I can see
It's amazing all these years later...how many people STILL think USA beat USSR for the gold medal.
I’ll never understand that the Soviets didn’t pull the goalie late in the third. We’re they that confident or that inept? Regardless it’s the greatest sports moment in US history by far
Boys. That eulogy question has to go. It ends the pid on a downer. It always brings the good energy down.
As usual great show guys. Rizzo is the real deal. Very humble guy, nothing but positive outlook. Of course expect nothing less from a Boston guy
