I'm a huge Islanders fan for 50 years. This was a treat! Thank you guys.
Wow, I always thought that Trots was an awesome player but he's also a great person. Great show Tim and Knucks!
60 year old Flyers Fan watching hockey intently since 1967. Trots was the best 2 way player i’ve ever seen for a stretch from the late 70’s until around 84.
Epic guest! Trottier is a legend
Trots was a great one, no doubt.
And I'm not an Islanders fan at all, but Jethro was probably the best tough guy/skilled player of all time.
A guy known as an enforcer who is in NHL HoF. 300+ goal scorer.
My dad was an islanders fan growing up. Trottier was his favorite player!
you can really see what this guy brought to the table. what great guy to have on ateam.
Loved those Islander teams. Bossy, Trotts, Potvin, Jethro etc etc
Great interview Knucks and Tim! I went to my first Islander game in 1977 and was 14 when they won their first of 4 in a row. Growing up on LI those were my favorite sports memories by far. Would love if you got Nystrom on.
Bobby was my favorite player growing up. I've run into him a bunch of times at games and he couldn't be any nicer.
I met 19 almost 30yrs ago at the Collie during a Long Island Jaws Pro Roller Hockey game. Trotts was sitting in the stands like a regular fan. He was so cool and polite. I must've talked the man's ear off and not once was he rude or dismissive! He listened to a 14 yr old crazy NYI fan babble LOL! Thank you Mr. Trottier!
Wow, I forgot about the Jawz! I wish that caught on because those games were a lot of fun.
Moved to Long Island from queens in 1980… just in time for the dynasty … trottier was a rock star along with bossy and potvin…such great memories… thank you Bryan and great job Chris
Another great one from Chris and Tim. Looking good Bryan, great to see you! I remember The Trio Grande even though I was a Boston boy. RIP #9 and #22
OK, random, on-topic Catholic Memorial memory for Chris-
About '86 or so, we used to play floor hockey in gym, and the sticks were all Bryan Trottier models
Thats one of the best interviews ever. 2 legends of the game who faced each other and I didn't know played on the same USA team reshashing the golden era. Nice job guys. Stapes good job getting in that question about the chirping on Bellows. lol. Classic moment in nhl soundbytes. The respect Nucks and Trots had for each other was classy.
Never forget Trots sliding with the cup on the rain soaked tarp at Three Rivers Stadium in 1992. What a beauty.
Again, I'm not an Islanders fan, but they had the best rally jingle back in the day.
Here is the closest to what they use to play back then.
It's so good, that I would get all pumped up listening to it myself and I am a Bruins fan.
Put this into the CZcams search.
"Lets Go Islanders Chant"
Great show!
Just wanted to tell you Mr Nilan that this best podcast out there. I'm a Ranger fan but had relatives in Charlestown. So Bruins and Ranger thing.Thank you Mr Nilan for your great work.
This was a great podcast. Good interview.
Thanks!
Loved Trots! probably the most underrated Superstar of all time. Long Island legend who if he played in Montreal would have a statue in front of the Arena!
One of the greatest
Hockey royalty indeed. Incredible career and a class act.
Great interview.
Great guests Knucks.Love your podcasts.
Always proud to share M. Trottier family name. Interesting fact, Alexis Lafrenière is a Trottier descent.
My favourite hockey podcast
What an awesome podcast.Thank you Brian and Tim and Chris. Thank you.😊
Chris. How proud was your Dad to see that USA jersey on you?🇺🇸🇺🇸. Being a Veteran he must have been beaming!!!👍
My brother was friends with the Trottier family. In fact, their mom considered him part of the family.
I always tell the generation behind me. That I would take bossy and trottier over Gretzky and messier. Maybe I'm more old fashion . Being a flyers fan ,those islander teams were a pain in the ass . It was great hockey back than. . Great podcast sir. Awesome interviews. Hey knucks, you were a pain in the ass back in those days. But I rooted for you against other teams othe than the flyers .
100 percent if i had to pick between 18 yr old trots and 18 yr old wayne to build a cup winner im taking trots every day.
it boggles my mind that some people rate oilers over the isles dynasty . the oilers technically were not a dynasty they never won more than two in a row. the islanders won 2 of 3 series they played and beat oilers 12 straight games at one point. the islanders were the more complete TEAM not to mention glen sather was not in al arbors universe as a coach
I AGREE WITH YOU 100 PERCENT. ISLANDERS WERE A BETTER TEAM. I WOULD TAKE MORROW, POTVIN, GERRY HART, AND LANGEVIN OVER HUDDY, COFFEE, LOWE ANY TIME. I WAS A BIG TIME FLYERS FAN. BELIEVE YOU ME. I HATED WHEN THD FLYERS PLAYED THE ISLANDERS. TO NERVE RACKING . ..OILERS WERE GOOD . ISLANDERS WERE BETTER ..
I always felt that Messier was the most complete player on the ice in the majority of his games. And Gretzky deserves his recognition, even though I feel he was no 'better' than an un-injured Bobby Orr, because Orr could have excelled at Gretz's position but Wayne would not likely to have excelled at Bobby's. But as a line, Gillies-Trottier-Bossy is one of the best, ever, that the league ever saw, end of discussion. Each of them was so much more than his reputed role. In particular, how Mike Bossy is not more well known today is beyond me. Bryan hit it on the head- the purest goal scorer the league ever saw was named Mike Bossy. Phenomenal player.
@@bbb462cid not to mention desire to win and pay the price. the islanders had to get in the mud with the penguins in 1982 opening round. the penguins almost pulled off greatest upset in nhl history but isles found away to comeback and win final game when they were down 2 goals with 5 min to go. the oilers when faced with similar adversity against the flames in 1986 could not overcome it and lost. that seperates a great team from a legendary team
Bryan was my hockey hero after Rod Gilbert. I played amateur hockey in my 20’s in NJ I was given #16 and my late teammate Mike McQuaid was given #19. I asked him if we could switch numbers. He said no fucking way because his favorite player growing up was Bryan Trottier.
I enjoyed watching him play all those years. Great ?'s Tim and Knux. Awesome gentleman .
Trottier was one helluva player
Hi chris , its been a long time. May 5 1986 the greatest and worse day of my life. I was working in new jersey for Airborne express making a delivery in the Glenpointe Hotel in teaneck. Me being a big Ranger fan btw walks into hotel and i notice nilan , domi, langway and LaFluer in the lobby hanging out. I was mind blown that i was in the same room as my arc enemy!! I tried to talk to them but most spoke french. Then you came up to me and said hey can you get me outta here to go get some beers ?? I was blown away and said sure where you want to go ?? You said find me a bar lol. So i said lets go. I blew off work and i took you to Houlihans where i attempted to get you hammered so you wouldnt be able to play that night against my team !! We drank 4 or 5 pitchers of beer dozens of wings Than you asked me if i wanted to go to game that night in MSG ? Is this real life ? Of course i drove you and your 3 jerseys to msg and we parked inside the garden and you took me inside the canadians locker room and i wanted to hurt all your teamstes !! Than you give me a ticket for the game and i have to sit with all canadians wifes and family members!! My crasiest moment in my rangers history of going to games! I never seen anyones busted up knuckles like you had ! I got married that year and moved to Florida and you get traded to the Rangers !! My man rember i came to see you at panthers facility and after the game i took you and domi to ft lauderdale for more beer ??? Anyway thank you again Chris for the best and worst day of my life !!! Your biggest fan mike g
I grew up in a Metis community in Saskatchewan. My dad who couldn't read or write but could speak 4 languages Mechif, Cree, French and some English pronounced his name the proper way - Trotchee
Chris, you actually won the 1st 2 games at home against the Islanders. Gainey was playing with 2 separated shoulders.
Then Trottier ran Gainey from behind
Mike was the Muhammad Ali of hockey scorers. Even skating backwards.
I'm a ranger fan and couldn't stand him but this interview was terrific . They were the best team I ever seen winning 19 series in a row and it sucked .
great job knuckles now we need batlin billy smith on the show
I agree. Billy Smith was a badass
Bobby Nystrom please!
@@sklyons211 bobby nystrom is a 100 percent class act
I forgive you for ending the Habs dynasty. Lol
Nux, when are you gonna get the Hammer 🔨 on for the 50 year anniversary of the Flyers first SC back in 74'.
I wish you could get Freddie Shero on to ask him why he turned the Flyers, Dave "the Hammer" Schultz, a -50- goal scorer in juniors into a fighter??
For old timer NHL fans, Schultz scored 50 one season in juniors. Amazing for a guy known as a goon. 50?? smh.... Yup!!!
True he was a great player and leader but Gretzky was different. Teams are made up of players with unique skills like Brian said.
🖐😎👍
Put the Red Line back in? It will never happen.
Knuckles over Hull in a second don’t care what year.
💪
Chuckles lol
The NYI were a great team but let's not get crazy now.
The Oilers were voted Best Team of All Time.
If D Steve Smith doesn't put the puck in his own net, that team wins 5 in a row and 6 in 7 years.
Ok, but he did. So they didn't.
Nevertheless, that Oilers team has won 5 out of 7 and has 7 NHL HoF:
C Gretzky
W Messier
W Anderson
W Kurri
D Coffey
D Lowe
G Fuhr
And a lot of them became "Oilers East" when a slew of Oilers, like 6 of them went to the Rangers and also helped them win the 94' Cup.
Anderson, Beukeboom, Lowe, McTavish, Messier, Tikkanen
19 straight playoff series wins, will never be duplicated. LGI
That is probably true.
And let's be honest, even Mike Francesa would probably agree with that.
Sure Isles were good but...Oil were better
Taking away one referee for "more space"? It's one body and it won't make a difference in terms of space. Plus...with all this talk about bad reffing in games, if you go back to one ref, a lot of calls will be missed and even more bitching will happen from teams
Stupid decision for Trottier to work for the Rangers
Pretty stupid he played for U.S.A. After u played for Canada. Like why ?
I'm pretty sure he just explained exactly why he did it. Classy move on his part.
@@petecarlisle2315not a classy move whatsoever. A slap in the face to Canadians and our country.
I am a proud Canadian but Bryan articulated his reasons well; family heritage and gratitude for his adoptive country and beside I believe he still retains dual citizenship.
Trottier is one creepy dude
How was he creepy? Did you watch him playing? He was awesome
A complete hockey player. Gretzky was NOT a complete player. Not many can measure up to Trottier.
