As someone who used a Vega 64 for literally 5 years: RDNA1 was a bigger pile of sh!t driver wise when it launched.
Could not even run half of my common for 2019 games for 3 months after release. A770 has confusing issues, but it runs most everything playable rather than just hanging or crashing unlike my 5700XT which is in a Driving Sim build now.

It took AMD one bloody year to fix a bug that caused a BSOD when playing back video on non-native resolutions. Browsing YT and websites with pesky autoplay was fun during that time. I'll never forget that experience, but my 5700 came 100 bucks cheaper than the NVIDIA counterpart at the time, so there's that.

My system is much like yours, relatively new parts (just put a 3070ti in it a few months ago from a vanilla 2060) but the Windows itself is a launch day Win10 install updated as time went on and the boot SSD was MBR. I didn't want to reinstall mainly for your reasons, everything is how I like it. But I wanted to move it to GPT and until now I thought I would have to bite the bullet and reinstall. I wasn't looking forward to it AT ALL. This gives me an out and while it's obviously not the best case scenario for a smooth running rig, I'll take it if it means I don't have to set Windows back to how I like it again with a million different apps and settings.

Linus and Luke if you want to play older games with more performance you could try dxvk 1.10.1 (newer version have render issues on windows). its a compatibility layer that implement d3d9 to 11 on vulkan. and with vkd3d d3d12 on vulkan even if that is not important on windows. for that you only has to copy the dll file to the game executable and it most of the time just works ( cs go has a protection against such method but can be turned off/bypassed )

I've been an a380one of these for a few months, the drivers are getting better on the monthly updates. The last set of drivers corrected the last of the oddball issues (text not rendering on some buttons in some games). OBS has a beta version that is supposed to support Arc features, I'd wait until that is bug checked and actually released (Probably Jan or Feb). XeSS plugin for Unreal Engine was also just released, it probably has other fixes and optimizations for Arc as well (probably waiting until about Feb 2023 as well for game updates with these). Minecraft Bedrock has raytracing for this in development/testing, again a wait for game updates.
I wouldn't recommend this as an 'Upgrade' Card, Re-Bar requirement. If you're making a new system and want to have ok game play while saving up for a big graphics card this will fill in (for the most part, check game capability first).
My questions have to do with the long run use of the card, can this be run in a secondary slot without interfering with the performance of a new main video card? Can we pair this with and AMD card for its Encoder? Will the Media server programs update for Arc Encoders (Use for video streaming computers)?

    • @DailyCorvid
      @DailyCorvid Před rokem +3

Well you will need 2 x DCA PCIe slots, though I doubt you want to spend that much.
And, just for the sake of the gimmick of 2 different GPUs at once!
That said there is no reason why you couldn't have both installed and just run one at a time with the other deactivated. You will 100% run into problems trying to duplex your GPU on a regular Mobo though...
Like you could easily have two satnavs in your car but realistically you can only use one at a time, you only have two eyes mate!!!!! Lol. You could have each GPU drive a separate display, but you wouldn't use both simultaneously for the same task.
      EDIT :
You could actually do better if you want the encoder - to get an Intel CPU with a decent igpu on the die package and then a GPU for graphics. Intels (and infact AMD's to a lesser degree) encoders will outperform the nVidia ones by a fair whack whilst using less power and less GPU cycles. So if you do graphics or repro work, yeah get the igpu (Intel sadly are better for pure encode/decode at the moment; but AMD versatile and cheaper / better quality parts). Then you have your architecture linked PCIe (GPU) slot with your actual GPU in there as expected.
Perfect for work/play mix (much higher budget) = Intel modern APU plus Nvidia GPU.

Mbr2gpt is such a great command line tool. Literally just went thru this a few days ago. Although, you do NOT have to do it only in advanced startup. You can use the normal command line keys "mbr2gpt /convert /disk:(system disk) /allowfullOS" and it will allow you to run this command and convert the drive to gpt within the desktop while running cmd in administrator mode.
I will add that you should validate the drive first to make sure there will be no issues. The command is pretty much the same but with one difference. Just to reiterate, the convert command is "mbr2gpt /convert /disk:insert your system disk number /allowfullOS", you don't need allowfullOS if you are in advanced startup. The validate command is mbr2gpt /validate /disk:insert your system disk number /allowfullOS. Again, take out allowfullOS if you are in advanced startup, only use it if you want to use this cmd tool within the desktop cmd line in administrator mode.

16:55 Yep, that's the exact reaction I had when I found out I can't use ReBAR on my machine.
Carried forward my drives since Vista.. and they still have a working Vista/7 install on them (well, ignoring Ryzen not having USB drivers), along with my cloned 7 upgraded to 10 which is my daily driver. That's literally 15 years of history I have to uproot and destroy to be able to use ReBAR, a PCI-E feature that's existed for 20.
    Aint the industry great?
And to be clear, mbr2gpt doesn't solve my problem, because the old OS' won't start anymore regardless of CSM being enabled or not. It only works for the Win10 installs. And to make matters worse, mbr2gpt only works for active system drives, so I can't even convert a cloned drive the old OS's are on as a workaround. And then there's my HBA.. which needs CSM enabled to have the drives show up. Having to change BIOS options every single time I boot to a different OS is even more of a pain than booting to it in the first place.

@@josephdu1952 True, but there is little that you can realistically do. Take it from someone who has an A380. Arc Control has noped itself out of existence with the latest BETA drivers and I've spent about eight hours in the last week trying to manually uninstall everything, using DDU, scouring the web for a unrelated error code supposedly related to Windows Update. The only thing I've yet to do barring deleting a folder in Windows Update is completely reinstall my system. Thankfully, I don't have much anymore that I absolutely care about and I do have some external storage to stick the stuff that I do have, but I have never had to nuke a system just to get basic functionality from a piece of hardware. And this is including Linux drivers for AMD and Nvidia. Those involved some staring at a terminal for about an hour, but never chucking a system out.
The worst part is that the drivers are so borked, that fucking QSV AV1 on Handbrake is fucked and I don't want to spend time trying to figure out how ffmpeg actually works just to transcode my Blu-Rays. IT HAD ONE FUCKING JOB AND IT FUCKING FAILED! Great job Raja! And since the community is both so small and new, no one really has a good solution for any problem, so you're forced to figure it out on your own. I was told that I should just return the thing and realistically, I just might if I still can and score a used 5500XT instead.
Hopefully, Intel does get it sorted out tho. 250+ FPS on AV1 (when it actually works) is crazy and means that I can use its unimaginable cosmic powers to stash a bunch of movies and stuff in a itty bitty living space. The A310 sounds like the perfect card for the job when it decides to actually exist.
