You might have tunnel vision around sound, but I do think it's a really important factor. I've got some jet engines running in some laptops and, if I had known I was going to push them that hard, I might have found something quieter.
What happened to the Dave who would never take sponsor deals to stay unbiased??
Why is this dog barking here!
Dave keeping faithful to fan noise checks and missing print screen button gives me trust
it's not really about bias and more about what this channel is for, showing off cool tech and new devices that most people would find interesting and/helpful. Which is what he did here and what he's been doing since forever.@@simonvutov7575

That's something I love about my MBP compared to my work laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 3): it's silent. Especially something like only a Teams video call shouldn't be a noise making thing.
That’s my Nr.1 spec that needs to be fullfilled. Mac Air would be fine but don’t want to pay for every app to work and don’t wanna give them more.
I'm so glad he covered the Yoga series laptops. I'm eating good with these Dave videos coming out daily.
Couldn't agree more!!
agreed but I've been rocking this for over a year now, got my slim for $400 open box at Best Buy. steal, it's been great. Glad to see they threw an RTX in one. maybe that will be my next machine
It's amazing how far the yoga laptops have come. My first laptop Dave did a video on, which was also my first Dave2d video, was the yoga 920, where he peeled a carrot on its sharp edge 🥕
Thanks! a request to keep all videos in this form factor, like simple set up that matches Dave 2D's simplistic delivery.
They're looking amazing.
I've got a slim modern oled laptop and it's great but these Yoga you reviewed seem to be the pinnacle of the tech.
Man, I would be super interested in a comparison between the 14 inch 7i with the Core Ultra 7 vs the same chassis with the Ryzen 7840H. Especially when looking at noise levels and efficiency.
The i7 155H is comparable to 7840u in both CPU and GPU performance. It runs hotter and uses more watts/performance tho. The 7840hs still beats it by a 10-15% margin. Source Notebookcheck. Personally just found today a -40% deal from late '23 yoga slim 6 with the former setup and am really happy!
I'm close to tears! I've been looking soooo long for a powerful but silent windows laptop! Then I was about to give up and was at the blink of the edge to buy a MacBook last week! So thankful for this video, now I'll only have to wait a little bit more :)
Don't do it! You will have to change your whole workflow to get a quieter machine.
Windows are much better than macOS. Some simple tasks are so weird on macOS but I enjoy silence almost a year now with my Mac.
Don't switch... here is m1 max user, worst decision of my life. It's awesome device, that's all, macos is sucks big time, ARM sucks even bigger time. No software, no games. Great battery, screen, trackpad nad keyboard... so you're sitting with this great thing to do nothing, can only recommend this to girls for office, "creative" work, and overall surfing.
For me and my needs Windows are so much better. I use both sistems a lot.@@Promikes
@@Promikes If you didn't research if your programs and games were available on mac that's your fault ngl.
Mac is great for video editing, development and basically anything that is graphically demanding. Just because you cant play call of duty on it doesn't make it bad my guy
Man CES is the best!! So many videos by Dave!!! 🥳🎉
2:22 "I cannot stress this enough" this is such a good pun
Hp pavilion Plus 14 (68 Wh) with #AMD 7840U has 10 to 11 hours of BATTERY.
Hp spectre x360 14 (68 Wh) with #Intel Core ULTRA 7 155H has 14 to 15 hours of BATTERY. 😱
Intel laptops BATTERY life is as good as MacBook M2/M3 even though Intel is using Tiles/Chiplet.
Impressive🤯
💪
Zenbook 14 2024 has 15 hours 37min BATTERY
I have a 14.5" yoga pro 9i (4060, 13905H, 32gb RAM) and they are actually slept on. The cooling is superb (no throttling), screen is great and battery life is to be expected. The build quality is also the best I have seen in any windows laptops.
2:40 Not putting the full CPU name in a chart like that is insanely frustrating. (Ultra 7 155H, Ultra 9 185H, and which i7 was it???)
It's nice to see reviewers mention music production once in a while - thanks for that!
i like these videos man, u made us wait for a long time without any uploads
nice video man!!! i love your content brodie!!!!
Great vid. thank you Dave. A link to that thunderbolt drive would be great.
The usb drive speeds you mention sell USB 3.1 speeds short. It's more like 800mb/s, and my TB3 enclosure usually hits 1200mb/s when boosting in real life workloads, the 2500mb/s is purely theoretical when measuring bandwith with something like sandisk. In my experience it's not USB bandwidth but cache size that makes most of the difference when editing with multiple streams on an external drive - drives start to crawl once the DRAM buffer is full.
That is very true. Hopefully, they have a larger DRAM. I would buy a large internal SSD and just use the external Thunderbolt SSD for storage to keep space on the laptop. I suspect that is what pros do.
Maybe due to 5gbps and 10gbps usb 3 version?
Samsung t5s do only get 500mb/s or less. The t7 does 1gb/s while still on usb 3 and now they've released the t9 which is 2gb/s and it's not thunderbolt it uses 2x2 usb or something. Idk the naming is not great.
Sums up my entrie day the three videos of Dave2D!

Haircut Sponsor...Urgent
ahhhh sponsored segment. I will say, I am hoping to see laptops start including the Frore Airjet system. So far its the most interesting system I have seen from cooling in the laptop segment.
i believe thats not going to come true in many years. Why? imagine you have so much cooling in a slim laptop and no fan noise. It would make these 1year over year incremental efficiency gains obsolete, crushing this kind of business strategy. Once we have so efficient chips that it wouldnt make a difference anyways thats when we will have these airjet solutions. Evil or not, money dictates.
@@PKperformanceEU sadly I agree with you.
Good to see that Dave's getting sponsors, his reviews are really geniune.

Does lenovo offer it in a matte screen version as well?
Love the videos! Would it be possible to keep the graphs/table on screen a tad longer? My pause game ain’t what it used to be and I’m having to rewind each time
It's a shame that this review is sponsored. I was hoping for an unbiased review of this laptop.
How many more videoss, my day is blessed
2 vids yesterday and another upload today. Dave2D is on fire 🔥🔥🔥
I use NoteBook FanControl (NBFC) to keep my laptop very quiet as well while gaming (30 to 35 dB). CPU and GPU do thermal throttle however, but the FPS loss is negligible, from 5 to 10 FPS in most games. My laptop is repasted with PTM7950 and it helps a lot as well.
This. Only downside is, that some models can get quite hot that way, not that it damages them. It's just uncomfortable and can get that plastic smell off the shell of the device in your nose. It does work well, however, as I'm doing the same.
I'm so torn between this pro 9i, xps 16 and new asus g16 this year! heat + fan noise and display are top considerations though, so good to see lenovo making them a priority here!
Anecdotal, but I had legitimately the worst experience with customer service for my Lenovo.
The ASUS laptops look beautiful with those OLEDs.
Very disappointed with Dell's XPS flagships, I have paint peeling from the keyboard which has never happened to me before in my 10+ years of owning laptops, initial impression is really good but then it falls apart
and no full size SD WTF!!! almost every pro camera still uses SD@@nickjohnson1823
So based on these two peoples comment ^ Asus is the way to go?
@@lonz0_0
It's more that there's no reason to go for Razer.
ASUS just crushes it. There are other options out there depending on what your priorities are, but ASUS beats the Razer one in effectively every way.
He was previously disappointed in the new Intel chips. Now, in a sponsored video, he's singing them praises. Dave, please don't sell out.
Sell Out by Reel Big Fish:
"So I signed on to the record company
They say they're gonna give me lot's of money
If I play what they want you to hear
Tell me it's cool, and I'll sure believe it
Sell out, with me, oh yea
Sell out with me tonight
The record company's gonna give me lots of money
And everything's gonna be alright"
I'm excited to see Dave truly excited.
Big fan of lenovo laptops. Personally used the Yoga and carbon x1 as a consultant

Thank you ces for these videos
After daily driving both glossy and matte screens, I will always prefer matte on my laptops. But it's always good to have options.
Glossy screens are nice for desktop when you control direct light. You can use monitor lamp just to direct light on desk and not monitor and put light behind to illuminate wall to make it cast soft shadow.
But you cant do that with laptop and not having consistency is enoying.
@@Umar_Akmal96paki lol
I prefer a glossy screen because I can put a matte screen protector/lens over it; so essentially I have both.
@@user-io4sr7vg1v
I've done that before, but it never seems to look quite as good as a screen that is already matte. Maybe I've just been using poor quality protectors.
good lord why? matte is terrible
back to back to back, my man is on a roll and im all up on it
On a separate note, I own the 9i with a Core i9/RTX2070 and the BIOS software is quite cool. It allows yoyu to run the laptop on "quiet mode", which reduces the fans speed to avoid noise. This obviously makes the laptop run hotter but nice feature to have in case it's needed.
Can we just take a second and really appreciate the rounded corners of the screen?
Looks like there is finally some real competition to MacBooks or rather the niche they are occupying.
Quite refreshing and it hopefully leads to lower prices there as maybe Apple is now a tiny bit under pressure now.
competition? no. Viable options, yes. This core 9 185h doesnt come close to even just a 12c M3pro, let alone any of the m3max. But at least now we are not only limited to macbooks. Tbh im willing to take this lack of cpu performance over a macbook as windows has much more softwares available and windows ARM is absolute garbage so not really an option if you want macbook with windows availability.
Not yet, Apple Silicon reigns as king in mobile.
lol no. A MacBook would still destroy this thing, not to mention how cheap these laptops look compared to a Mac.
Yeah, these are such nice devices. Especially when they are also running Windows OS, which has access to all the software that I need for work. Mac OS is unfortunately severely gimped on software side.
Quite fascinating that after all these years PCs are still playing catch up to Mac products and they are just getting close.
Dave has released 4 videos within a day. Dave is in his Kobe year.
They once made this C720 or something. It was a 2 in 1 with dedicated graphics, good stylus support and good screen.
Idk when will I get a similar product back. Currently rocking a samsung book 2 360. No graphic card but it supports rest of the needs.
Sadly these days the only things that fit the bill are the MSI Summit E16 Flip Evo, Asus Flow X13 and X16, or the Surface Laptop Studio, but all three series use MPP rather than Wacom. On top of that, the SLS is absurdly overpriced for what you get. The Book4 Pro 360 will likely have integrated graphics that are a bit faster than these gaming handhelds like the ROG Ally and Legion Go, but other than that there really isn't anything else.
I honestly wish the Galaxy Book Ultra had pen support, or that they'd put a 4050 in the Book4 Pro 360.
What was the thunderbolt cable and drive Dave used in 3;55?
thanks Dave for this new videos
16inch M1 Pro vs intel core ultra? Should you get a dedicated gpu as well with intel for premiere?
For the 9i Pro, you say you got 35 dB from Overwatch. What graphics card are you using? I would also want to see the dB from a 4070 version of the laptop running something like Cyberpunk.
You simply cannot trust sponsored videos these days...
my wife got this 14" 7i pro 2023 version with rtx 4050, it runs well & quiet with even the older intel cpu. got to play new AAA games with high settings for dozens of hours with no throttling.
I was just hoping to see in CES 2024 more devices with frore airjet cooling. Unfortunately there is nothing yet. Those coolers are really the next thing for electronic devices
Title: How is this Powerful Laptop So Quiet..?
Lenovo: " I'm not tell'n" 😅
Would u recommend these laptops or the new xps 14 and 16 like for balance of productivity work, battery life and slight gaming. Are they comparable?
Hey Dave, would you take a look at some months old HP elitebook 865 G10 ?
I know it's out for some months now, but I'm generally interested how usable business oriented premium laptops have become.
Good to see Lenovo has improved their thermals. That's generally been a huge problem for all their thinner models.
Let's hope the Lenovo Legion is also built with the same improvements applied. A bit more power balanced with reasonable power consumption and fan noise.
As a current Yoga user, it has surpassed my expectations. I’m glad this upcoming year they doubled down on their creative identity. I’ll wait for a Thunderbolt 5 option before upgrading.
The yoga laptop already had amazing battery life, but it is loud. My guess is that the battery life is a sleight improvement but the improvement is more about how quiet (efficient) they are.
after using my yoga slim 7 with a Ryzen CPU for more than a year, the screen has a very visible imprint of the keyboard that cannot be wiped away. I guess the screen is too flexible and presses on the keys when you close the laptop.
I wonder if the new devices suffer the same issue.
Dave, we definitely need a new video on the new Intel naming scheme
For those prices, they better be quiet as well as tuck you in at night, with hot coco and marshmallows!
I look forward to the student laptop choice for 2024!
What happened to the Dave who would never take sponsor deals to stay unbiased??
Finally some new stuff. After all these years its finally worth it to consider an upgrade.
i got a yoga slim 7 14 with the exclusive 7640S a few months ago and it's a beast. specced it out and it came to £680 with a student discount (base model was like 1k lol). 2K OLED panel looks beautiful. All I had to do was give up a touch screen and the OS preinstalled. The cooling solution is just insane for the from factor, and the performance is nuts. Handles all my music production needs without breaking a sweat. Integrated GPU performance with the 760M is a little more than the GTX 1050. And doing idle tasks like note taking and browsing, it can last a good 7-8hrs on battery. Wild.
Was thinking of doing the same, but then the Intel arc ideapads came out, and now...I just don't know. How are the trackpad and keyboard on your laptop?
£68
Are you sure?

Kind of crazy they can do this on x86 platform where apple is on ARM. I wonder how much better intel could get with the efficiency from ARM

Sounds great, I like & own multiple Lenovo laptops. That said I just tried a MacBook Pro (M3) for the first time and it's pretty amazing. I wonder if Lenovo is quite in that league yet regarding battery life & quietness.
Battery life will be shorter, but still pretty good. Windows as an OS supports so much wide range of hardware that power states of the various components are not as optimized. Thus we can see batter lives at over 10 hours on Windows, but (especially with nice displays) we will not be seeing 15+h. Regardless anything over 8h would be fine for me as it lasts the time I need it to last.
@@InnocentiusLacrimosamy m1 max 14 MacBook pro is only like 3-4 hour working on it, and maybe 5 streaming, I don't know about what 10 hours people are talking... yes I have always WhatsApp, telegram, browser with 50+ tabs, so this clinical benchmarks do, it's great, but your 10 or 15 hours is a joke.
@@Promikes That is somewhat comforting. Anyhow, on my Windows machines the battery life is very much affected by my work habits and power profile. Same powerful machine can be 2h on other settings and 8h on other. Due to my work, I mostly use upgradeable gaming laptops which will chew through battery fast if at 100% cpu & gpu states. I guess that your computer use habits also keep the cpu & igpu active almost constantly.
The keyboard's arrow keys are still messed up, I cannot stress this enough.

how do these compare to the zenbook 2024? 14OLED? particularly the fan noise.
Thanks for so amazing videos in such a short period of time ❤️
As a creative, I disagree about glossy screens being good for professional creatives. There is a reason almost every reference monitor comes with a matte anti-glare coating and even with hoods to put around the monitor to have as little light interference as possible. Even when doing print work almost no one does professional printing glossy when doing proofs. Glossy looks nice for consumers and hobbyists. But no pro that needs to be able to actually trust their colors is using glossy for their final color work. there is a reason that even though Apple does shiny screens everywhere has a matte option for its XDR display it's because they know that it is a non-starter for color-accurate work.
What are you opinions on the new Intel Ultra chips compared to Ryzen. I’ve had an IdeaPad 5 Pro 16 for 1.5 years now. It’s like the budget brother of the Yoga Slim 7. It has a 6800HS and RTX 3050 and it gets 8-10 battery life in office work and like 2-4 hours editing or gaming. The noise is not too loud, much better than my brothers G14 but still louder than a MacBook. My laptop doesn’t have the same display and fit and finish as these, but Lenovo had some similar Slim Pro laptops last year with the 7940HS, did you test any of them?
Thanks to CES, we can Dave all over everything
