She just did not belive it was real, she even asked me for some jewelry for her. I finally demonstrated removing it and putting it back in and she sat in silence for atleast 25 minutes. As an aside, I (also brown) got a tongue piercing when I was 19, my mom heard about it from my brother (was talking/vlogging for a snapchat and didn't think it was that noticeable) but I can't forget the conversation we had that night. Sobbing, ripping crying, from me- from my core, at my mom on the phone screaming, telling me how could I do this, crying, what does this mean for me, am I blowing people? Do I not want a job? With all that tuition and I do this? Just ripping into me as I say I'msorryI'msorryI'msorrypleasestopIgetitPleasestop. I don't wish that kind of pain on anyone. Now I know (in my own family) my love from them is very conditional. Dependent on what I do with my body and how that affects them and what they think (and what other people think). Now I'm 26 and can brush this off as her being crazy overreactive and dealing with her own issues at the time...but at 19? Goddamn. I didn't deserve that. I still don't. And I'm working through all the cultural and religious guilt/shame placed upon me even now.
