Removing the trunk floor first generation f-body 1968 Pontiac Firebird

- Trunk floor pan needs replaced on a 1968 Firebird, how to get it out quick and simple? This car needs the tail panel replaced inner and outer but somehow the trunk drop off panels survived we are going to salvage those and remove the rest.

LoL. Do you know how many years I hid my kids Christmas presents in my 68 ? Hahaha. Totally forgot about it until you mentioned it and it put a huge smile on my face. Thank you again and keep up what you do !!!

Finally received the complete trunk panel from AMD. Going to go about the 69 Camaro same as you did except leave in frame rails. Wish I had your confidence! Thanks for the intel and guidance.

I try to leave it as well but most cars in indy are rust buckets.
Many years ago I remember someone rapped a 69 firebird in Camaro sheet metal
That happened a lot I have learned. The Camaro had a higher market demand was why but the crazy thing is the birds are more rare and cost more when new funny how that worked out. I would want to return it back to a bird if I found it.

great vid and as usual and thanks for the advice you give it is appreciated. I am a old retired diesel mech and worked in the body shop sometimes and you definitely know your stuff. But just last eve I was doing some cutting with my angle grinder as I have over the years and a brand new disc exploded on me we have all had this happen but this time it was just right it ricocheted on a few surfaces part of it cut through my leather gloves I didnt get many cuts because of the gloves on just basically scrapes I do not mean to be a know it all but I was sure glad I had the guard on it or I would have a lot of stitches this am just give it a think :)
Experience is priceless and definitely worth sharing, not all lessons need to be learned the hard way. Thanks for sharing that’s what this channel is all about.
Another great video, kinda got me wondering now about the trunk drop downs , hope there will be a video on how that falls in place
Thanks! The trunk drop downs I plan to reuse them, they or at least one of them will have to be removed to get the new trunk floor fitted back into place, that or remove the entire tail panel. However I end up doing it i will get it on here plus reassembly of course.
I put one in my 1968 fierbird too but I had a new tail panel and had it removable so it went in nice then I replaced quarter pannel skins only and drop offs a lot of fitting off and on for gas tank neck and bumper to line up and the pain in the but trunk latch! Lol another great videos the best I couldn't do the videos don't have the temperament CZcams would ban me after one hahaha😖
I can’t say I haven’t had a minor snag or two while playing cars too. The beautiful part of not doing it live is it a can be edited 😎
@@VinylVillageGarage lol you have a really good channel you are quick witted that's a gift from God and you very good with the cars you restore very smart and your the man with that death wheel perfect name for it lol you let it work for you not getting to much in a hurry like I use to untill had a cheap wheel blow up and almost cut half of my pinky off lol

Like how to properly use a boot when removing the trunk pan, cause most DIYers would have overlooked that step if it wasn't for your video. But now i'm wondering, if Pontiac had recommended a certain sized boot for this delicate procedure..??
I watched the footage when done playing cars and I could not resist highlighting the size 13 Boot knocking the pan out. It just fit, literally! 😂
Sledgehammer raise it up and and slam it down vertical safer but I would have used the boot to maybe? Lol
Funny enough before i gave the floor the boot I was looking for my sledge hammer but could not find it then. I have since found it, it was behind the car door leaning against the shop wall. Oh well the boot was fun anyway.

Man you make me nervous with that cut off wheel or very appropriately called the death wheel, have you seen how close your fingers are getting to that😳 I only say this because I cut one of my fingers really bad with one of those and would hate to see you do the same, be CAREFUL!
Wise words for sure, I am pushing my luck I know. I think it’s within the budget to acquire a new grinder with a guard.
Did that body get subframe connectors?
This car I did not add them. Fairly stock rebuild wanted more of an original look and this car will never see much if any aggressive driving from the current owner.
So how long did it take to remove the trunk floor? If you said then I missed it.
It’s a bit of a build up to get the trunk floor out. I have yet to find a way to install it without removing the tail panel. You can do the sectional trunk floor quicker but I don’t feel it’s a clean. If you where to tackle the trunk floor as a separate project 40 hours or so. That would include removing and reinstalling the tail panel.
