Hey Seph 🙋 Here to show my support once again. But also if I may give some info on AIDS. Actually AIDS first came to America in 1970 in both San Francisco and NYC. It was just kept quiet until a story broke about it in 1981 in a NYC newspaper. By 1982 some European countries also reported cases of AIDS (patients with that is). So here is the low down: I was born in 1984. I had high levels of bilirubin. The doctor told my Mom if after treatment my bilirubin levels did not significantly lower they would need to give me (her newborn baby) a full blood transfusion. My Mom worked for a medical lab. Her Mom was a nurse. They both knew about AIDS. They both knew too that most blood donated was not tested for HIV/ AIDS. My whole family panicked. Both sets of my grandparents were on stand- by to have their blood tested for a match if my Dad's wasn't a match. (Mom has a different blood type than me. I have my Dad's blood type. That matters. O type blood is donor's blood type. Neither of my parents had O type.) Thankfully after a few days in an incubator under UV lights my bilirubin went down (my Dad always recalled with fondness seeing me with black baby goggles on to protect my eyes from the UV lights). So I just want to let you know that AIDS was known prior to the 1980's. In fact, when wage laborers in Africa went back to Haiti (their home) in 1962 that is when most likely AIDS was first introduced to the island of Haiti. Doctors have actually known about AIDS/ HIV in existence in Africa since circa 1950. It was never global news or even considered much of a concern because it was pretty much thought of as a "sex worker" disease. There's a lot of history there. I don't want to go too much into it. Mostly because it's just a lot. If you are truly interested let me know and I'll email you a couple of article links. (They may not stick here because YT Gods and I don't want to put myself through that hassle today.) Ryan White was a victim in more ways than one. I usually do not like saying that about people because it de- humanizes them in a way. Ryan White was a human being. He deserves to be remembered for his humanity, the person he was. Not for the virus that took him from this earth too soon. Also: Hemophilia is a hereditary medical condition. Czar Nicholas II's son had hemophilia and it is said that is what made his wife trust Rasputin to the degree that she did. She was a mother desperate for a cure to save her son. More info on Hemophilia (from the Mayo Clinic): A rare condition in which the blood doesn't clot in the typical way when a person bleeds. With hemophilia, bleeding might go on for a longer time after an injury than it would if the blood clotted properly. Often, small cuts aren't much of a problem. But serious forms of the condition raise the risk of bleeding inside the body. This can damage organs and tissues. The main risk factor for hemophilia is to have relatives who also have it. Hemophilia symptoms can include bleeding more than usual from cuts or injuries. Or the excessive bleeding might happen after surgery, dental work or getting a shot of a vaccine. Hemophilia also may cause many large or deep bruises. Symptoms of rare bleeding in the brain include a painful, long-lasting headache and repeated vomiting. The main treatment for serious hemophilia involves receiving blood-clotting proteins through a tube in a vein. These proteins are called clotting factor. Depending on how serious a person's hemophilia is, other medicines may be needed. Treatments called fibrin sealants can help seal wounds. Use of pressure and a bandage may stop bleeding from minor cuts. And this from Cedars- Sinai: Hemophilia types A and B are inherited diseases. They are passed on from parents to children through a gene on the X chromosome. Females have 2 X chromosomes, while males have 1 X and 1 Y chromosome. A female carrier has the hemophilia gene on 1 of her X chromosomes. When a hemophilia carrier female is pregnant, there is a 50/50 chance that the hemophilia gene will be passed on to the baby. If the gene is passed on to a son, he will have the disease. If the gene is passed on to a daughter, she will be a carrier. If the father has hemophilia but the mother does not carry the hemophilia gene, then none of the sons will have hemophilia disease, but all of the daughters will be carriers. In about 1/3 of the children with hemophilia, there is no family history of the disorder. In these cases, it’s believed that the disorder could be related to a new gene flaw. @@SephPlays Yes it does. Preventative medicine has made SOME strides. However and sadly there are more sexually active people now who don't use protection. Last I checked the percentage was 25% of sexually active adults between the ages of 25- 40 years old consistently do not use protection. And so now here in the States 10% of the adult American public has a strain of HPV. There are 150 different strains of HPV; 40 of which leads to cervical cancer in women. But no one takes HPV seriously because we live in an age of "Super Drugs". The thought being that HPV is treatable. And most think "treatable" means "curable". The two ARE NOT interchangeable. I don't judge others for how they want to live their lives. But at the same time I do not understand that kind of irresponsibility, not only about your own health, but about the health of your partner and/ or partners. Anyway let me stop there. You are very welcome Seph 🙏 And I understand totally. The medical community was what it was then. We cannot go back in time and correct the wrongs of the past. But we CAN learn from the mistakes of our predecessors and make more informed, more ethical decisions.

I'm not sure exactly when Ryan found out he had aids but it was still relatively new in 1984 and they didn't know allot about the Disease and how it was transmitted in the beginning and may not yet have been screening blood when he contracted it, I just don't know enough about the timeline.

During those years, we all panicked because so many patients got Aids because of contaminated blood. Ryan was literally murdered because of the same reason so many died of COVID-19, pure disregard for the patients and negligence.
NO. NOT negligence. Doctors at the time (late 70s early 80s) had not yet discovered it was transmitted through blood or bodily fluids. People getting blood in those years had no idea they might be exposed. No test for blood screening existed. It took years before people with AIDS who were still donating blood, knew they were infectious.
