    Great video Guy, I really enjoy how informative they are. I was sold on an S4 from my local bike shop here in Santa Cruz Ca. I am 5’9” and I really thought I should have been on an S3 but the sales person explained that the new S-sizing would allow me to be fine on an S4. So far the bike seems to feel ok out on my trails here in SC, but maybe I might be on to long of a bike. Any thoughts?

      You can only really do SWAT on the carbon frames. It weakens the alloy too much and also the tubes are smaller so storage wouldn't be as useful.

    Got mine ordered yesterday, was trying to buy it the week before but my circumstances changed. Buzzing to get onto it and get modifying it where I see fit. Might not be the best bike on the planet but for my budget 2500-3000 (I know I could’ve got a YT or other bikes for that price) it was a no brainier, especially with the mullet setup which made this so appealing to me as I didn’t want a full 29er just because of my riding style.

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  Před 3 lety

      Yeah I'd definitely stick with a wider 2.6in tyre on the back as it helps the rear end slide and drift more than the front which is one of the best bits of the Mullet character. You could run a narrower front tyre to make the difference even more obvious and that would add even more grip in wet conditions.

    • @Zestybwoi
      @Zestybwoi Před 3 lety

      @@GuyKesTV Why a wider tyre on the rear? Isn't the general idea with mountain bikes to to stick the wider, grippier tyre on the front to help with steering grip and have a lower rolling resistance tyre on the rear since the majority of your weight distributions is already on it.

      Hi Matt, It's stiffer and more playful than the Sentry and Specialized customer service is brilliant. You also get a thru axle crank which you don't get on the standard Sentry. Tyres are better on the Calibre though. Have you watched the live ride reviews of them both on the channel?

    I am looking at a specialized status 160 for my next bike since the s4 ( lg ) has 30mm more reach than what I have currently( s3 has 12mm more )but the headtube is shorter by 10mm and the seat tube angle is 1.5 degrees steeper. I've thought about downsizing for this frame. I'm 6'2 and currently on a Commencal HT/AM Meta LG that has a reach of 450mm and is the perfect fit for me. I've been running it with a 170mm Marzocchi bomber. With the shorter reach, I'm still able to keep the front end down easily on climbs. My riding is mainly done on local trails, flowy, small jumps, and rollers with some punchy climbs. I've always enjoyed a smaller bike as I do not ride for distance and I've always liked a smaller frame. What would be your opinion?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  Před rokem +1

      For most people your height I'd say S4, but everything else about your comment, bike fit and how you ride makes me agree with you that S3 is definitely the right way to go. Even with the steeper seat angle it should be a very similar position to the Commencal as obviously the Status has rear suspension which sags a bit while the your hardtail will stay 'tall' at the back. Hope that helps and great choice going for the Status. Really miss goofing about on this one.
