This is the first time they've released a proper bang for your buck bike since the specialized pitch pro. I like it!
This is literally exactly the bike I am looking for. Glad I found this video.
I got extremely intrigued. Thanks for this content!
Just bought one yesterday, feels amazing
good review mate!
I love watching these older videos and hearing the bike prices, so much more expensive since the pandemic, like £500 more.
Ohhh that's so pretty. Could be a worthy replacement for my 2015 Stumpjumper. Love the colour.
Great video. Very interesting
excellent review

Great video Guy, I really enjoy how informative they are. I was sold on an S4 from my local bike shop here in Santa Cruz Ca. I am 5’9” and I really thought I should have been on an S3 but the sales person explained that the new S-sizing would allow me to be fine on an S4. So far the bike seems to feel ok out on my trails here in SC, but maybe I might be on to long of a bike. Any thoughts?
Thank you
I have one of these on order, I had one of the Big Hit bikes back in the early 2000's, great downhill bike - not great everywhere else.
Fair play Guy. The bike looks sick and would be a solid upgrade from my stumpjumper. I am somewhat surprised that Spes haven't included a SWAT feature but I guess beggars can't be choosers. Keep up the vids.
You can only really do SWAT on the carbon frames. It weakens the alloy too much and also the tubes are smaller so storage wouldn't be as useful.
the Bighit was around in 2003 , a friend had one, I bought the enduro supercross (SX)
That looks like a stella bike
Got mine ordered yesterday, was trying to buy it the week before but my circumstances changed. Buzzing to get onto it and get modifying it where I see fit. Might not be the best bike on the planet but for my budget 2500-3000 (I know I could’ve got a YT or other bikes for that price) it was a no brainier, especially with the mullet setup which made this so appealing to me as I didn’t want a full 29er just because of my riding style.
WHERE DO YOU ORDER IT FROM?!?!?!
Billy Mackay 99 Harrogate concept store, over the phone and shipping it to me once it arrives
Billy Mackay 99 i got mine at my local bike shop, they carry these at select specialized dealers so check all your local dealers
I'm thinking about buying the 140
I've had my yt capra for 2 years on 170mm travel but it's kinda boring so I took out my meta ht with 140 mm travel setup having way more fun so this bike seemed the most fun and challenging
If you were to choose between the status 160 2021 or the stumpjumer comp allow 2021 for a “jack of all trades”, what would be a better pick?
Does the fork come stock with any volume spacers?
Straight tube..god damn it!
I'm the same height as yourself, did you feel the S4 a good fit?
Guy.. Can you test Genesis Tarn 20.. A British company and one I think you should showcase.. You did one a while ago but an update is needed.. 2019 27.5 plus or 2020 29 er.. Thanks. Great channel..
Anth W that’s a great idea. Not ridden the Tarn since the original like you say. I’ll get in touch with them ASAP.
Do you know if this hub body/driver can be switched to the XD driver to support the Sram GX 10-50 cassette in place of the current Sram NX 11-50 cassette?
Yeah, I'm wondering that and the max rear tire clearance as well.
great low down, can you expand on the wider wheel at the back and handling, if i replace the tyres am i looking to do this as well you think?
Yeah I'd definitely stick with a wider 2.6in tyre on the back as it helps the rear end slide and drift more than the front which is one of the best bits of the Mullet character. You could run a narrower front tyre to make the difference even more obvious and that would add even more grip in wet conditions.
@@GuyKesTV Why a wider tyre on the rear? Isn't the general idea with mountain bikes to to stick the wider, grippier tyre on the front to help with steering grip and have a lower rolling resistance tyre on the rear since the majority of your weight distributions is already on it.
I’m thinking specialized is playing into the ride-wrapping game, simple colors that would make designs pop
Yep, it's a great neutral canvas for a bit of personal art and that's exactly the demographic Spesh are after with it. Might have to get the Sharpies out myself 🤣
Can the horseshoe link be change from 140mm to 160mm?
Great vid thanks Guy! Looks just like a mullet Calibre sentry with shorter chainstays and fancier suspension. How would you rate the Status compared to the Sentry?
Hi Matt, It's stiffer and more playful than the Sentry and Specialized customer service is brilliant. You also get a thru axle crank which you don't get on the standard Sentry. Tyres are better on the Calibre though. Have you watched the live ride reviews of them both on the channel?
@@GuyKesTV thanks Guy! Yes I've watched both the sentry and the status live rides and tech talks.
I own a sentry (although rebadged as a polygon vander n7 here in Australia). its a cracking bike, although a real beast in XL, even though i'm 186.5cm and 95kgs.
any specific weight cutting upgrades you'd recommend to make it less of a freight train? eg. any lighter wheels, BB, cassette etc? this is the first "proper" bike I've had so I want to tinker!
@@mattlloyd-cape9140 what cranks and tyres are on there? They can hide a ton of weight.
@@GuyKesTV NX cranks and vee flow snap tackee 2.6inch front and back. it has an sx cassette which is an obvious upgrade. Just not sure whether it's worth upgrading to GX which would require a new freehub upgrade (I think!?)
For a guy like me 5’8 s3 or medium should be good ????
Is it possible to run a 29” rear wheel if you wanted instead of the 27.5”?
shred4eva don’t think so cause it was designed for being mullet but if you look close I think you could but I wouldn’t risk it
I have a question! Which pedals were given in the package??
I think no pedals ore those standard plastic pedals which come with most of the new bikes of any brand.
I am looking at a specialized status 160 for my next bike since the s4 ( lg ) has 30mm more reach than what I have currently( s3 has 12mm more )but the headtube is shorter by 10mm and the seat tube angle is 1.5 degrees steeper. I've thought about downsizing for this frame. I'm 6'2 and currently on a Commencal HT/AM Meta LG that has a reach of 450mm and is the perfect fit for me. I've been running it with a 170mm Marzocchi bomber. With the shorter reach, I'm still able to keep the front end down easily on climbs. My riding is mainly done on local trails, flowy, small jumps, and rollers with some punchy climbs. I've always enjoyed a smaller bike as I do not ride for distance and I've always liked a smaller frame. What would be your opinion?
For most people your height I'd say S4, but everything else about your comment, bike fit and how you ride makes me agree with you that S3 is definitely the right way to go. Even with the steeper seat angle it should be a very similar position to the Commencal as obviously the Status has rear suspension which sags a bit while the your hardtail will stay 'tall' at the back. Hope that helps and great choice going for the Status. Really miss goofing about on this one.
@@GuyKesTV thanks I’m going to be building it start with the frame set. I’m planning on a marzocchi bomber rear coil. There are a few who have done so and says in transforms the bike
@@Atalbot1994 yeah I ran a Zocchi coil on mine in the end and it was awesome
I cant seem to find it anywhere available, has it stopped being sold?
For some reason it was only ever limited release. Try your nearest Specialized concept store for availability.
Is it possible to slam the seat post all the way into the frame?
Stan Graves yep. Slams right down onto the collar no problem.
Coming to a bike park rental fleet near you!
Matt McKechnie perfect for it as long as you change the tyres.
@@GuyKesTV Yup! Slap some DH tires on it and it's ready to rip!
@@mmckechnie11 Literally just dug out a pair of Hutchinson Griffus Gravity to fit ready for hitting the hill again tomorrow 👍🏻
@@GuyKesTV What do you rate Michelin Wild Enduro's?...

i have a status 140, can i convert to 160?
wtf this hasnt even been announced by specialized yet.
madrid187 it’s been a weird one. It’s already in the shops and ambassadors have been riding it and showing it on social for a while. We finally got clearance to talk about it in the UK at 5pm today though. Don’t think it’s even on the Spesh website yet though 🤷♂️
That’s because the status is a program to make people like specialized more and they don’t make any money with it but they can bigger their Fan community etc... Though I hope they will put it on the website!
Knockout makes perfect sense. And it worked on me. I could see this bike taking off with park rats like the original Capra did.
Im 6’1 , anyone know if I should go as big as S5? I feel like I’m in between sizes S4 and S5? Any suggestions ?
Per Specialized S-sizing you could go with either one. The s4 5’8 - 6’2”, the s5 5’10 - 6’4”. If you want a more quick responsive jumper/jibbler then go s4. If you want to point and shoot with stability then s5. I am 5’9” and went with an s4. I like feeling planted and this size inspires confidence for me. All depends on your trails and how you ride.
@@eduardoguzman333 thanks that helps a lot! I ended up going with the S5, took it out once so far and it feels great! I like feeling more planted on it and secure and to my surprise it doesn’t feel too big. Thanks for your reply it helps me feel even more confident I made the right choice!
What name is the rear freehub?
What size is it also?
Thanks.
From memory it’s DT guts in a Specialized hub shell. Bike size is S4
@@GuyKesTV is that the proper name for it? I'm about to replace mine see.
Thanks.
@@reverentalexanderchezeley-6367 I’d check the Specialized website or the dealer you got it from for the exact freehub you need.
Do you have the measurements of the box?
Hi Oscar, I'll have a look for a tape measure and work it out.
do you know the leverage curve? fit for coil?
Gustav Palsson I’ll double check but the volume spacer it needs is pretty big so I think you’d need a very progressive coil.
@@GuyKesTV thanks, appreciate it
Is it available? Can't even find it in the spez site
Sketos_Gr where do you live? They are already in Specialized stores here in the UK but I know some countries - including the US - don’t have them yet.
@@GuyKesTV I am in the UK, other than the reviews that popped up today, can't seem to find any other info online. I will try my local specialized when I get teh chance
Sketos_Gr I know the Specialized Concept Store in Harrogate has two on the shop floor so you could give them a ring if your local shop doesn’t have them.
Sketos_Gr only available in concept stores and a couple other selected stores. Go onto instagram and type in “#statusmtb” and you’ll find a good amount of posts about the bike there. I ordered mine from Harrogate yesterday it’s as simple as phone up and order and they’ll deliver it to you (unless you live nearby unlike me the nearest store is 215 miles away)
What brand fender is that?
Crud XL Fender
I’m 5.8 feet and MTB size M but I want to get this bike size S4. Do you think is it too big for me ?
What is your saddle top to BB axle centre measurement?
GuyKesTV about 88 cm from the saddle top to the bb axle
@@anddavinci6691 Crikey you've got long legs! I run 74.5 from top of saddle to centre of the bottom bracket axle where it goes through the frame so you should be fine on S4
GuyKesTV oh thank you but I think it’s 66 cm from the saddle top to the bb axle centre. I was measuring from the pedal to the saddle.
anddavinci glad we checked. You’ll need an S3 if you want full seatpost function then.
For someone who is 5'8" should I look for a S1 or S2 size?
I’m at a product launch with Spesh ATMO and there’s two 5’ 8” guys here and they both ride S3
@@GuyKesTV thanks. Does that mean Specialized is going to mass release this bike? I found two bike shops near me in the Bay Area that had them but sold em fast.
@@reptarthetrx2408 just on an uplift bus but I’ll ask when I get out 👍🏻
@@GuyKesTV im 6’1 and can’t decide to get the S4 or S5, what would you suggest?
Did you not have to tape the rims?
Brandon Andrews they come pre taped. Valves in the bag 👍🏻
GuyKesTV that’s good, should be an industry standard.
Is 3400 overpriced for this bike?
pmsl thought you got the wrong bike out the box,it looked like a 2020 Bossnut?
Norse Man now that would have been funny. You could do a whole series of them. Especially if you said it was a Trek Session 🤣
funny thing is 25 years ago this bike would have been the best on the market and top spec
It would have blown most of the pro DH bikes away back then.
@@GuyKesTV this would be perfect trail bike for somewhere like the Bracknell forest and look out
@@trentsteele1986 I've just got the 140mm travel version for test which has even more pop and play about it so expect a video on that shortly 🤘🏻
Where was this bought from
It was sent to me for test. Try S-works dealers as I think they got priority
Where and when can I buy one ?
They're available from Specialized Concept stores right now 👍🏻
GuyKesTV thankyou
What online shops sell this bike
Did you find any, went to my local bike shop that does specialized and they didn't know or could find it on specialized
Ryan Kelly I don’t think any online shops sell it but I know my local bike shop does, infinity cycles
I just cant get over the rhythm fork... :(
You ridden a Rhythm fork?
Dont take it on a xc ride to review it like you did with the pivot switchblade !
haha yeah, that would be a mission 🥵
Rear end is exactly same as old x wing enduro, thats why its so burly
Dork disk
quaaludes I know right 😬
First 😂
Horrible color and 27,5 medley 29" 😏
For a guy like me 5’8 s3 or medium should be good ????
Yes that should be spot on. Should be getting the Status 140 to test this week too.
