The family rushing to a lawsuit is not a good look for the family. Not even grieving the loss of life. 😢

The fault is on the driver for not comprehending the situation. Last but not least you never procede through a railroad crossing unless you have sufficient room to clear the crossing.

If the family has a lawyer already they tend to put the blame on others other then the driver who put them in a bad situation.

People are ridiculous. They would rather get hit by a train than break a piece of wood.

Why would anyone be crazy enough to drive in front of a train; knowing 90 percent of the time they will easily get killed.

A grandparent who didn't give a crap about the future of his grandchild. He didn't obey basic driving lessons and he killed that kid and his wife.

Pretty sad and unfortunate it was the driver's fault and not the train.
However after learning about the railroad industry it's scary and straight up messed up. Especially when it comes to derailment and the dangerous stuff they haul.

Ha, my comment that a train can't possibly stop within sight distance was deleted. I guess someone thinks that isn't common knowledge or even true. Deleting my comment won't change physics of inertia and breaking distance. If you are thinking that the train is at fault and should be able to stop - it can't and, that may be the one factor that will get you killed at a crossing.

This is sad and is the second news clip I have seen recently where law enforcement were involved near a railroad crossing that resulted in a collision with a train. WHY does law enforcement need to conduct business so close to a railroad crossing? A train cannot stop on a dime and all of the red and blue emergency flashing lights in the world will NOT make a train stop. Police need to exemplify themselves as representatives of public safety by moving farther away from railroad crossings to conduct business when they can. Couldn't they have instructed the person they stopped to move forward 100 feet and resume business at a safer location???

There are a couple of issues at this crossing. The timing of the gates isn't as important as the timing of the bells and lights. A driver will encounter many, many crossings that only have flashing signal lights. The flashing signal lights, as we are taught in driving course means STOP do not enter. If you are already committed, or on the tracks you must clear BEFORE the gates close. If there were 'no stopping zones' for any reason painted by cross hatch, the traffic stop would be in violation as there is no shoulder, and would be blocking any car trapped. His age may also have played a part. If you have bad driving habits that take risks by the time you are a senior, those bad habits can kill you. In the city or out in the country, when the lights start flashing as you approach a crossing STOP, unless you can't safely. The timing is such you should be able to clear before the gates come down and well before a train crosses. If you are still on the crossing when the gates come down, you are already in immediate danger and must take immediate action. The gates are designed to break off and they are easily and quickly replaced.
