So he rests his eyes but still kinda peeking like kinda opening your eyes without the guys noticing and I guess they were pointing gun fingers at him and just planning to kill dude. What’s smart about the scene where Tuco is slicing tomatoes is amazing to me. Since the episode before this ends on the tuco cliffhanger, we immediately assume that tuco is doing some horrible shit to the two skaters because it’s tuco and from what we know about him he’s crazy. But when the camera reveals that he’s just slicing tomatoes for whatever dish he’s making I couldn’t help but laugh. I think that’s the reaction the directors wanted. The joke relies on the knowledge of fans while also staying true to Tuco’s character. That scene is just another example of wordless storytelling and how the creators of this show know their own character (which is something you don’t see in a lot of media) and how they know how the fans think too.

It's like Dexter's intro, you see him slicing up meat, tying his shoelaces aggressively in a garotte-like way, he squeezes blood oranges, drips blood into the sink (and hot sauce onto his eggs in a blood spatter kinda way), I really like stuff like that
I think they did the same thing with Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal, they framed his cooking of human meat in a culinary way, and his cooking of regular food in a serial killer kinda way (or vice versa, correct me if I'm wrong) and he eats an Ortolan (an illegal delicacy where someone eats an entire small songbird, in one mouthful, that's drowned and cooked in cognac or something) but the way its shot and acted was deliberately so it resembles oral sex or something (again correct me if I've missed the mark on any of these, just more examples of framing food and murder in interesting ways)

Nah it's a power play. Part of those types of situations is that you have to show you can talk with some authority. Lalo is filling in for his uncle, if he accepted the food it means he is willing to go along with something without knowing what's going on. Nacho understands how power plays and the situations works. Lalo also is on shaky ground since he's filling he needs to be able to show power without overstepping or it shows weakness. He needs a united front on the street, otherwise the other gang will pounce on that because they smell blood.
To make it simple when Hector is out the Salamancas still have thier rep but they have to show that whoever is in charge is just as bad as the last man. Tuco did the same thing when he took over.
Nacho is showing he isn't a punk and take every order, but it shows he can think. Lalo is testing to see whose whose and who to out where. Nacho was good with the last dude and this likely started what lead to him getting bumped up because he kept pace and showed potiental with saving the stash house supply.

It's interesting how they did these cooking scenes, both of Tuco's cooking scenes always start off with some form of red, with gritty or meaty sounds when the knife slices through something, and then Tuco is introduced, kind of like they are making him seem like the monster right off the bat. They could have probably just kept that without him sniffing meth or getting ready to beat people's asses, and it would have given everyone the correct idea that he's either psychopathic or blood thirsty.
Lalo on the other hand, is more human, he's more relaxed about everything, he's more friendly, he speaks in Spanish and English. He all around seems like a kind and honorable guy, but then you have Nacho there who is stand-offish about it all, and hesitant which starts the viewer off thinking, "maybe something isn't right with Lalo", and over time throughout the scene you start to pick up on things, exact movements, smooth and friendly towards someone who is by equivalence, his underling, and he was prepared to start cooking enough for two, and offering the first plate to said underling. He's confident as well, knowing that Nacho won't try anything stupid. Which makes Lalo a very intimidating character right off the bat.

You could use onions, but I never do and it’s still fantastic.

Me personally I cook the steaks and then I put them in the marinade. The hot steaks keep it warm and the juices more savory.

Hell, I even prefer other Mexican brands of soda like Manzanita Sol over Jarritos.

HOLY SHIT the attention to detail of the creators of this show is out of this world, if you look at the fridge at 1:17 there's one soda called manzana lift, idk if at the time it was on the states but that drink does not exist anymore, but since it's 2009 they added that tiny detail. It's amazing lol
