    I see some negative comments and as a fellow GRIT user I say, don't knock it until you try it, as far as the 3k is concerned that's like shopping at the Dollar Store in the accessibility world. My everyday wheelchair was more then that, but I digress, great video. I am so jealous that is a beautiful landscape and camping is so fun. I can almost smell the campfires.Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

    Totally different set of muscles then I would use in a typical chair. I'm thinking this would take a lot of practice before using in the wild.

    That’s a great chair....I wonder why so expensive though? $3000.....? I ask because I’m a metal fabricator by trade....id love to see equipment like that be made differently and far less costly.....but with no loss of quality, comfort or function. Love all your vids...!

    • @ProTipsForParas
      @ProTipsForParas  Před 4 lety +13

      Haha! This is the 'cheap' (economical) all terrain chair. RADs other one retails for $12,000.
      That said, I am 100% with you on why this price tag is so great?!?!
      Niche market, no buying power....so we bend over and take it

    • @lisawheely
      @lisawheely Před 2 lety +3

      Its expensive because its for disabled, we are a captive audience and have to be rich to get suitable equipment to live as normal a life as possible, even Wheelchairs are way too expensive put a Mobility tag on it and gives companies carte blanche to add the $$$ on the tag

    • @cbryce9243
      @cbryce9243 Před rokem

      Unfortunately, when you become disabled you see how horribly expensive everything is. Even simple plastic cup holders are around 40-50 bucks. They really like to take advantage of people who need this kind of equipment.

    Is this a serious off road chair, or more of a tool to go in grass/gravel/sand? I’m trying to decide. I have a spartan wheel chariot. It’s fantastic off-road. I’d hate to spend quadruple the money and get something less capable

  • @melhorian8488

    I wonder if the front wheel could be engineered to the back, to mitigate the wheelie.

    Hello,
    I have some questions :)
    If you compare the mountain trike vs grit freedom chair.
    Witch would you recomend?
    -Eas of use on and of road
    -price wise is it worth spending the extra to have the mountain trike? I find both really expensive but ca´t find something similar in the same "cheap" price range.
    Do u use one of those in daily life and if so do you favor one over the other?
    Tnx :D

    • @ProTipsForParas
      @ProTipsForParas  Před rokem

      Personally [Tanelle]. I never use the GRIT, and I wish I had my own electric assist Mountain Trike. It is definitely the one that is used by the most people, the greatest variety of abilities and the most terrain. The only way I was able to access the snow and ice last winter.

  • @noraamatthews

    Great video! I had a friend in high school with a T5 spinal cord injury and she always had a lot of leg spasms when transferring. Do you have spasms, and if so how do they ever hinder transfers? Thanks!

    • @ProTipsForParas
      @ProTipsForParas  Před 4 lety +5

      Amazing how much attention you have paid to the details! ;) I do have spasms, a lot more now than I did initially. And now to the point that they will kick me straight backwards out of the chair. That said... if I am patient enough to let the spasms subside then they do not affect transfers, and at times I find they will actually assist in the transfer motion. Truth is, it is different for everyone...so I hope this answers it for you.

    • @noraamatthews
      @noraamatthews Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for the info!
      Are you taking medications for your spasms? My friend stopped taking baclofen because it made her so tired. She was willing to put up with slightly more spasms, but not feel tired all the time.
      It sounds like her spasms are similar to yours. She could trigger the spasms that made her leg shoot straight out and she would use that as a trick to “kick” people, which made for some good laughs. :)
      One last question: her big toe would move if she touched her foot just right. Does that also happen to you?
      If you could do a video about spasms, and how the effect your transfers, and life, I would find it very interesting!
      Thanks again for answering and sorry for the long post, I’ve just always been curious to see if others had similar experiences with their spasms.
      Thanks!

    so what is the big difference between your chair and the that your showing us? I could be wrong but I think your chair that you transfer from could do the same thing

    • @ProTipsForParas
      @ProTipsForParas  Před 2 lety

      The chair that I transfer from has two small, shopping cart type wheels that get hung up on any small stone or threshold. Where the one wheel on the GRIT is less limiting on rougher surfaces.

  • @DocP4ra
    @DocP4ra Před 4 lety

    So what are your thoughts on the Grit vs the Mt. Trike?

    • @ProTipsForParas
      @ProTipsForParas  Před 4 lety +5

      Honestly, for my level of function I prefer the Mountain Trike. I have a hard time using the GRIT without someone to spot me going over backwards. I am able to use my day chair in more places then I can comfortably get the GRIT.

    the bar holding the front wheel should curve down to make it easier to lift the leg over it

    • @ProTipsForParas
      @ProTipsForParas  Před 2 lety

      Hey! Great question.
      I never use this GRIT chair. It does not operate the way the Mountain Trike does. I am more comfortable in my everyday chair then with the GRIT.

  • @ashstubbings2603

    Personally this looks like more work than needed and would wear you out pretty fast. Noticed you didn't even go far in it. Just snippets of video here and there. For 3k you can get a Firefly and zoom zoom off you go.

    • @garyvillette6920
      @garyvillette6920 Před 2 lety

      The Firefly won't have the traction on hills and uneven terrain that this chair does. It's an inherent weakness of the front-wheel drive designs.

  • @TrashyQuery
    @TrashyQuery Před 4 lety +1

    3k? Rip off. It was designed off the Leveraged freedom chair, which is made out of cheap and globally accessible bicycle parts. The Leveraged freedom chair was designed to be accessible to low income users. 3k is an absolute exploitation, since the chair prints are available on Google and then all you have to do is go to a second hand bike store or a junk yard.

    • @TrashyQuery
      @TrashyQuery Před 4 lety +1

      Sadly Leveraged arm wheelchairs are contraindicated for people with ehlers-danlos syndrome(what I have). So it's sad I can't get one because my arms struggle with rims
