Don't treat your concealed carry pistol this way! I've neglected my Kel-Tec PF9: wearing this in 90-100 F weather daily this summer, and haven't cleaned, fired, or maintained this pistol in four months. How will it shoot in this state with a variety of ammunition? Let's find out!
...and I've decided to take better care of my concealed carry hardware for sure! More on that later.

I bought a used PF9 about 6 years ago, disassembled it, cleaned it, gave it love. I hugged and kissed it by polishing the slide, placing a flat trigger, some Foxx grips and fiber optic sights. I've probably run close to 1500 rounds, no FTF or FTE, I carry it still, daily.

When I was my department’s armorer, one of my officers brought me a sig 229 SAS in similar condition to your Kel Tec, It was his off duty carry gun. He had been carrying it daily but hadn’t shot it in a year. I literally had to beat the slide open with a rubber mallet, it had so much crud packed into the gun. Why do people trust their lives to weapons they don’t take care of ? The lives of your family are worth taking the time to clean and lube your firearm monthly, bi monthly in hot humid weather.

I have a PF-9 about the same vintage. Here is some feedback and things to share with you - 1. A loose grip or "limp wristing" will make it stove pipe. Get a good purchase on the it. 2. Light Strike is caused by a dirty firing pin channel. Field strip it, clean the channel and consider taking a piece of emory cloth and small drill bit or dowel and lightly buff the firing pin channel. Polish the pin too. A basic cleaning, and lubricating is good to do a couple times a year. Get some frog lube and protect after each cleaning. I run a small count of grease on my rails too. I like Rig. . Put it on the calendar, since its your EDC pistol. Thank you for he video! Hope this helps and thank you. FletchMan

The gun on my hip right now is the KelTec PF9. I only paid $209 back in the day. To keep mine running I give it an Ultrasonic bath in a 10 to 1 water and Ballistol mix. Blow it out with compressed air, wipe it off on the outside and oil the slide rails. Mine has been great for a few thousand rounds. I had 1 spring break (gun still worked) and KelTec got the new one to me in about a week. My next gun will hopefully be a Sub-2000 in CZ mag form

Thanks for sharing. I bought mine in April of 2010, after spotting a used one during a period in which they were in high demand and short supply. I love the gun's practicality, and it's been very reliable over the years. After two years, I replaced the slide with a hard-chromed one, as the original was getting some rust (I live in Florida.)
I'm not that good about periodic cleaning between range sessions, and those sessions have gotten more infrequent lately. The last time I shot this gun's little sister, the P32 (purchased in 2011), it made for a pretty show of sparks as lint within the gun was ignited and propelled from it. Still, the gun cycled perfectly.
I'll definitely pay a bit more attention to "between-range" cleanliness.

PF9 was my first handgun purchase as an uneducated buyer and shooter about 8 years ago. 2 magazines of factory brass cased 115 grain ammo was enough to crack the barrels locking lug. Handgun was replaced by Keltec and I then sold it without firing.
8 years later with some pistol classes taken, IDPA matches, work as an RSO and Instructor all under my belt and now the Glock 43 is what I carry and what I recommend to fill the role described by the poster of this video.
For the sake of you and your family, please retire that PF9 😁

I’ve owned several KelTec firearms, a couple 3AT’s, a couple 32’s and a PF9. I only ever had trouble with one 3AT when I took it to the range for the first time, the trigger broke on the first shot on the inside. Returned it to my dealer, he sent it back but I didn’t want it anymore. That being said, I would still buy KelTec products. I didn’t like my PF9, but maintenance is key to any firearm you carry daily, I check mine (G43) every evening and wipe it down with a rig rag. Glad all yours needed was a little TLC.
I believe that if you’ve owned that gun for 14 years and are happy with it, buy another, send that one to KelTec for a “once over” and you’ll have yourself a “two is one, one is none” option, just in case.

Ha. The PF9 and P3AT were both copied by Ruger and became very popular. We know them as the LC9 and LCP.
I am on my 2nd Kel-Tec P11 (the first one was stolen about 3 years ago. It’s the double stack version of the PF9. They even use the same barrel. The current one is a hard chrome slide, slide lock and takedown pin.
I like it because it was built around the S&W 59/69xx series of handguns, as was the Marlin Camp 9 Carbine (which I also have).
The P11 has been copied by a few manufacturers. One of which is SCCY Firearms on their CPX-1 generation 1. I am on the second one of them too as the first one was stolen at the same time as the Kel-Tec.
The P11 was discontinued last year.

Limp wristing is a problem with these small pistols and the deviled extractor spring seem to cure that also. At the range a guy with a Ruger LC9 was having limp wrist issues also.

I had a PF-9 that was never fully reliable, even after going back to KT when the hammer pin began to walk out. Recoil on this light gun was sometimes enough to walk bullets out of the cartridge in the magazine if they weren't well-crimped, as well. I wouldn't feel safe carrying one, particularly a neglected one. A Glock 43 has served me much better, and been easier to shoot accurately and quickly.

I’ve had some hit or miss experiences with Kel Tec. I first bought a P3AT that was a total hunk of junk. 3 trips in a row back to Kel Tec and they still couldn’t get it to function so the gun store felt bad and let me trade it in towards a Kahr PM9 and they sent it back for a 4th time to Kel Tec. I ended up picking up a Ruger LCP later on that has been 100% flawless and is my EDC. To me it’s a lot more refined version of the P3AT.
I then picked up (and still own) a P32 that has been 100% flawless.
I also got a Sub2000 9mm (Glock 17 mags) that I still own. I couldn’t get it sighted in at 25 yards as it wouldn’t even hit the paper and the sight was maxed out all the way to one side. I sent it back to Kel Tec and they replaced the barrel and it works great now. At 75 yards and under it works great.

I bought a PF9 back in 2009 as my first easily concealable handgun after carrying a government sized 1911 for several years. I really liked it for its light weight and small form factor compared to the competition in 9mm. It WAS reliable for years until sometime around 2012 when the magazine release wore out and actually sheered off so that the magazine would drop out of the gun when fired. I called Kel-Tek and they sent me replacement parts that I installed myself and the gun was again reliable but I just didn't fully trust it anymore. Lucky for me that S&W had just released their M&P Shield in 9mm and while it was slightly heavier it wasn't by much. I put my name on a waiting list and received one of the first examples I could get my hands on. I've been carrying it ever since. My PF9 was sold shortly thereafter. I still have a fondness for that little handgun but I feel much more confident in trusting my life to the Shield.

I own two PF9's both had their slides crack and were replaced and both are flawless now. The slide has a tendency to crack on the right side where the slide stop engages. Right in the corner. Check your pistol. Send the slide to kel Tec and they will replace the slide barrel and recoil springs under their warranty. If your gun is old and has lots of ammo through it I would check that area for a small hairline crack.

Causes my wrist and hand to shake a bit kind of killing high accuracy. It's a dump into center of mass type of gun for sure. I don't use +p ammo in it because it becomes a handful. I use standard pressure 124 grain gold dots for defense

My only gripes with the PF9 is A- Rust. B- trigger stroke and reset. If you need to pop 'em off quickly, the trigger doesn't reset because of the length of the stroke. This could be a real issue in a gunfight. I have all the KT pistols and they are all rusted. lol, I may try refinishing them with 'Duracoat" spray.

Sig Sauer P365. I carry the SAS and absolutely love it. While it isn’t a traditional single stack, it also isn’t considered a double stack. Better described as a “staggered stack”??
My next suggestion would be the Springfield Armory Hellcat. It too is a “staggered stack” magazine.

I've always been skeptical of Kel Tec, but gave the PF9 serious consideration before buying a Kahr CM9. The CM9 has run 100% for me always. It has a very long smooth trigger pull, but it's so different from everything else I shoot that I'm concerned about my accuracy because it always takes some getting used to - to re-acquaint myself to that long trigger. Still, it's more accurate than I expect of it, given the short barrel. I also have a Ruger LCP II. Though it has an absolutely excellent trigger, I find that I don't carry it because I don't trust .380. I'd rather carry something heavier that I trust. Once the current market calms down, I'll look at a Sig P365.
