When it came out, the PF9 pretty much eliminated any excuse for not being able to carry a 9mm pistol. I've had mine since 2010, and have never regretted the purchase.

Bought one in 2017 - nothing could touch it for 9mm concealability and convenience. Shot it apart and KelTec rebuilt it no questions asked. It always goes BANG and I carry it everyday. Man-boys don't like the recoil cause it messes up their manicure.

I have one, it’s not fun to shoot cause it kicks like a mule. That said over a 1000rds through it, zero problems. I don’t daily carry it, only when I’m wearing gym shorts and making a really quick run somewhere.

I've had one for about 9 years. I've only put about 1000 rounds through it, because at 12 ounces unloaded, it is a bit of a beast to shoot. But I have never had a failure of any kind. I bought it for wearing nicer clothes when a larger gun would be more difficult to conceal. It is the only Kel Tec I own, and do not understand the hate it receives. I recently replaced it with the S & W Shield 2.0 as my EDC, because the recoil was more manageable. But it is still noticeably heavier than the Kel Tec. I'll never get rid of it.

Once you take to the range, you'll figure out why it was carried a lot, and shot very little. Great carry gun, but it is not fun to shoot. Even with the pinky extension, it's tight squeeze to get all 3 of my fingers on it, and I don't have large hands. Any 9mm under 13oz is going have a lot of recoil, regardless of costs or quality.

I know this video is around 3 years old, but I just stumbled on it a few minutes ago. I wish CZcams allowed pics in comments because just last week I picked up a little PF9 that I think beats yours for it’s pitiful state. But, I fell in love with it the second I picked it up anyway. It must have been someone’s EDC/CC because it’s got holster rash and specific marring that looks like some sort of polymer slide holster. For less than $100 out the door though, I couldn’t complain!
I am hopefully going to get our finances in order eventually, and pickup the MCARBO upgrades that are available. It looks like they will bring all new life to the poorly neglected little fella. 😁

I have several more expensive and most definitely better choices of firearms, but my favorite carry gun is my little PF-9. I've had for 8 yrs and was lucky enough to get one that works consistently. I almost always use full metal jacket ammo, as most hollow points, except Hornady Critical defense have been unreliable. The trigger pull is something to get used to, but I have. It used hurt like heck on reset, until I heated it and reshaped it. of Course I polished the feed ramp and smoothed off all sharp edges on the grip. fifty rounds at one time is enough for my hand, so not a fun gun! One suggestion that will save your mag release catch, because it is plastic is, don't slam your Mag in! baby it, by pushing the release as you drive it in. I've shot about 1500 rounds through it and the only problems I've had with it is Golden Saber hollow points didn't feed well. Haven't tried to many others, cause the Hornady worked, so I'm sticking with um!

I got into the trap of smaller is better, now I prefer a bit if a bigger gun, Smith 915 is now my carry. Both of your choices will serve, XDS is a good feeling gun, now the 45, I'm a recoil sissy. I'm also in love with the PF9 but there's one downfall- trigger stroke reset- If you shoot too fast, either a full string of 8rds or 4 double taps, you will soon experience a 'reset failure'. 1st instinct is to cycle the slide to fire the next round. Or, the mental blunder effect of a bad primer and "what the hell just happened". This shit can cost you your life in a real shoot out scenario. The gun cycles perfectly if you slow down just a little but just that alone could cost you your life. I still carry it because of it's amazing size. Factory rounds are too stout for this little jem. I've worked up my own carry rounds that don't sting as bad and make for much better handling and accuracy. My final determination- buy a Glock single stack for carry and reliability and keep this PF9 just because. Also, I call it a "throw -away". If you ever need to defend yourself and avoid legality's, you can quickly strip it down and throw all the parts in a river or lake. IMO

@@usedgundude1035 ok, your guns. My opinion on dry firing has really changed over the last week. When my striker cracked with less than 50 Dry fires. I used to pull this trigger on a modern Striker Fired gun with no fear. Then after mine broke, I did Heavy research and found out that basically every manufacturer uses MIM Strikers/firing pins, and a lot of them are very hard and brittle due to manufacturer errors. Here is my Smith & Wesson with a broken Striker, that states in the manual it is okay to dry fire, and requires a dry fire to disassemble.
      czcams.com/video/4Vk_eiBJGkg/video.html
I personally just changed my mind about it, and ordered snap caps in all calibers. And another thing I noticed is the firing pin / Striker is usually one of the only Parts the manufacturers don't make available to the public. So in my case, there is no Striker assembly I can purchase. Now my pistol is at Smith & Wesson until probably around the New Year due to them being backed up right now with all their warranty work. Now if you have a Glock you can get a new one pretty easily. Which is the reason my sd40 is getting sold and a Glock 23 will be replacing it. I also have a PF-9, and my gunsmith specifically told me to not dry fire this one. Said he has seen too many broken firing pins to count.

The issue with the pf9 is the firing pin is held in place by the extractor screw by resting in a notch in the firing pin. Dry firing this gun without a round or snap cap in the chamber slams the firing pin into the extractor screw which can break the screw or the firing pin. Just a weird quirk with this particular design.

Dude, I’m worried about the value you place on your life if your gonna Carry a PF9. Ive had mine shipped back 2x and it still jams up. Sell all your crappy guns and buy a reliable pistol. Life is a little more valuable then $175 bucks. Your mileage may very.

I buy and review whatever looks cool and used, not we've run everything from $200 Taurus to $1200 STI. I would have no problems carrying this hot rod it ran. We have a method and requirements for a gun before they go into our carry rotation. Both me and my wife prefer full size autos or revolvers. Thanks for the view UGD

If your pf9 "jams" even after youve sent it back twice, your probably not holding onto it tight enough. If your holding this thing as tight as you can and still have malfunctions, get a gun with more mass. That's the give and take with this firearm. It gives up ease of use for concealment, in more than one way.

Shield absolutely destroys this gun. I have had two. Both unreliable, horrible trigger, ugly as hell.
