Those dowels were seriously one of your best tips yet. In the past, I've solved similar problems by either using metal threaded inserts (and hardening the surrounding grain with thin CA), or going through the enormous effort of cutting in a bridle joint. This is so much simpler, just as effective, and can be done with a blind hole for an invisible result.
Not only that, but they'd work well in a repair. Keep up the great work.
So glad you like it! I knew it needed to be solved when the feet on the center supper rail broke on the first bed I built…
Please stop apologizing to viewers for owning a domino tool. You're a professional woodworker. I personally tune in to see you create these awesome pieces the way you like to do them, with the tools you like to use. I don't get anyone who doesn't like your videos out of envy or whatever.
It’s a weird thing. It’s like watching a cooking show and the chef has a $10k oven and you think… I can’t make that bc I don’t have that oven… well… you do have AN oven… or a stove… or a grill… or a firepit outside… 😂😂😂
So yeah, I don’t get it either, but the comments definitely roll in as soon as I use it!
@@3x3CustomTamar people that complain you have a tool that's not at their disposal aren't professional woodworkers.
If they were, they'd either have the tool themselves or would understand there are alternate ways to get the job done.
@@shlatekkin and being not professional disqualifies one from having feelings ? I am not a professional and don't get upset either, but others might be less secure in their skin and I think Tamar has just the right tone here saying it's do-able in xyz way without the "all hail festools" :D
(not being confrontational here at all ;) )
I’m pretty sure your son won’t care what tools were used to make it. ;) What I am sure of is he will remember his wonderful mom BUILT him his very own bed and will treasure it/that memory forever.
Agreed don't apologize for your tools.
I’ve been woodworking for over 40 years and once again I learned something from you Tamar: that dowel idea for screwing into cross grain instead of end grain is absolutely brilliant! Also, I have been loving how nice your trim router base is working for me. It has made my little colt router my favorite. You are awesome kiddo!
That’s awesome to hear! So glad it’s working out for you!
Can this awesome maker ever make something uncool and unimpressive!? Blown away with every project. Keep in coming!
☺️☺️☺️
That is a great design and so well made, too. The tip using a dowel near the end grain is brilliant. I'll remember that. Beautiful job.
So glad you liked it!
Yes, that was very clever! Will remember!
A beautiful work of art. We miss your weekly videos 😭
Thanks! Too much life happening right now to make videos. Ha.
coolest mommy on earth 😍very well done! God bless you!
☺️☺️
I read a comment once not long ago that suggests, even if you are a hobby woodworker, the high end tools are worth it. The reason being, if you are a hobby woodworker, mostly like is because you just have less time. If you have less time then the better more efficient tools makes the most of that limited time and you get a lot more pleasure during that time enjoying your hobby. I decided to get the cheapest tools to start to get a feel of things. I am leaning to agree with the idea that the better the tools you have the better time of it you will have. I feel I have got the full set of cheap tools at this point and from this point forward I will get the best I can get. Lovely build btw, your work is always evolving and wonderful.
Yeah. Totally makes sense, but to each their own. I started off with all ryobi tools and cheap Amazon finds… and as I progressed I got better tools. I think it would have been silly for me to buy a planer before I was actually sure I was really going to take this 𝕎𝕠𝕠𝕕𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘 thing seriously. But again, to each their own!
Beyond amazing build. This is the most talented furniture-building woman on CZcams.
so awesome to hear 😊
I remember my woodshop teacher in 9th grade teaching us about using stop blocks on the tablesaw to avoid kickouts. (props to Mr. Rizor!) Of course someone proved this later in the year taking a big piece of plywood to the abdomen from a kickout.
Just here to say that you are amazing. I am a new mom, my son will be 1 in a few weeks - and seeing the end of this video with your kids talking to you made me so happy and hopeful for the future!
I am a maker through and through- made my son's dresser while 8 months pregnant (do not recommend :) ) and it's been tough having less "making" time.
So- thank you!
It was so hard for me to find time when the kids were little, I only started taking this seriously when my youngest went to kindergarten… building a dresser 8 months pregnant is pretty badass 🤘
Late reply ... I had more Maker time when my first was a baby than when she was mobile ... but she started walking at 8 months, so my time was short.
One thing you can do is switch between hobbies. Little kids do not belong in the wood shop, but they're safe around sewing, knitting, making chain mail, cosmetic formulation (not soap) ... these are some of the artisan crafts I rotated through. Or go in a different direction and learn CAD software or building web pages. Also, many home maintenance things can be done around kids. I painted my house with my 5 year old son "helping". [He's a very calm person.] I assembled Ikea furniture around them. I even bought Shaker chair kits to assemble, finish and weave seats.
You can't stop a True Maker.
I love woodworkers source! I have used them for all of my hardwood and visited one of their stores when I was in Tuscon on a business trip. They are awesome and the wood is always what I would hand pick from the store! Without them, I wouldn't be able to find hardwood near me!
They are the best!
Happy to hear!
Beautiful. I love the idea of placing dowels at the edge of the timber to make screws strong. Genius. BTW, I wish we could get these videos more frequently.
Yes, the dowel hack was perfect!
I’m sure she will be able to put out more videos soon, now that she is more settled in her new home and shop 👍🏼
Glad you like it! Just have lots of family stuff going on. I wish I could make more videos too. But they are more important than making these videos… ha.
@@3x3CustomTamar All the best. 😊
Glad to see you using your Domino. I love mine and recently bought the trim stop, so I could use it for repetitive cuts in narrow pieces and it worked perfectly! It took me about three years to convince myself that I needed a Domino, having tried several other methods in the meantime with various degrees of success and failure. The cost was a big hurdle or so I thought, but in the end a dealer sold me a new one for less than used ones were selling on Ebay. It is a great machine and now something I use all the time.
That is one of the nicest beds I have ever seen - I love all the angles you incorporated, and the genius way you spaced out the headboard slats to allow for expansion - brilliant. Congrats on the build and the new shop.
I built a bed for my daughter out of mostly yellow birch last fall and used the same Rockler bed rail fasteners, and very happy with them.
My favorite part of the video was you explaining why 0.5 mm matters. "You don't care but I care." Spoken like a true woodworker 🙂
Thanks so much! This hardware is the best…
Funny story, while assembling in his room I had that red triangle to make sure the side rails were square… he then took the square and started checking all the corners in our new house… he was shocked that they didn’t build our house perfectly square! That’s when I had to explain the difference between a woodworker and a carpenter 😂
Love it :) Never regret watching your videos in their entirety!
So awesome to hear ☺️
This video is perfect for me as I'm in the design process of building my own bed. The free-floating shelves are a great idea (1 that I will be incorporating into my design as 1 side of the bed isn't big enough to have a bed side unit). The bed rail hardware looks like a great idea, here in the UK most wooden beds require assembly with long carriage style bolts through the end grain which puts a lot of pressure on the wood itself and using the dowel to drill into is a great little idea.
What a success! Aesthetic, form & function. Simply beautiful. Love this piece.
So glad you liked it! Thanks!
"you don't care but I care". Best comment of the video!!! Story of my life lol
You are one of my all-time favorite wood workers! Thank you for sharing!
Simple but efficient. Good work !
This channel has the cutest outtakes on youtube.
☺️
This bed is absolutely gorgeous, well done
That screw-into-dowel trick is 👌👌👌👌
Glad you liked it!
Great video. One idea: I mark the inside rail every foot. The marks help ensure the slats remain parallel and at right angles to the stretchers.
One more idea: IKEA sells bed slats for different mattress sizes. I think they are called Luroy and cost only $30. That’s cheaper than buying slat wood. The IKEA slats work very well. One spacer on each end (four in total) is all it takes to use these slats since they are attached with a semi-stretchy material.
👍
Truly top-tier work! Love the design, love the execution! I'm always so inspired by your work!
Excellent!! Been awhile since I’ve caught your videos. Glad you are settled! The bed is amazing.
Absolutely amazing!
Amazing work, that bed is beautiful
This is really a project I have in mind for a long time. I think I might go for it. Walnut looks gorgeous
Great job and I love the dowel trick for end-grain screwing! So clever
You are such a great mentor! 🤩🤩🤩 Thank you for this!! I’ve been wanting to make a slanted headboard for our bed and I wasn’t quite sure of the best way to go about it. Now I have a clear way forward!
Beautiful! I love the floating night stands.
Thanks! So glad you like them!
Que bonito diseñó, inspirador. Felicidades.
I love this lady’s voice! I could listen to her all day long.
Great movie, love how you keep save in the shop. You are the only one I see that shutsdown the table saw every time, that is really good to see.
Excellent!! Love the new shop and room for your projects. Thank you for the build tips. Blessings and continued success to you.
Amazing bed. Nice job.
Amazing, a wonderful project! thanks for share
Beautiful. Cheers!
You continue to amaze this Aussie with your creativity, skills and design abilities, Tamar.
Keep the videos coming. They are a highlight of my day.
What a great build! I’m so excited to see all the other projects you’re going to build for your house and other projects you want to build. You make it all look so easy and doable for anyone.

Really, really nice work. The walnut was a perfect choice.
Thanks so much!
Great build! The nightstands are a really clever feature too, lovely stuff.
You know what. I was loosing my mojo in doing some woodwork but your videos always inspire me to make and improve. Many thanks for that.😊
Your kids are super lucky to have you as a mom! Congrats🎉
It’s beautiful
I keep going down the list to previous bed builds and I'm sensing that they just keep getting better by how you always refer to a previous bed you struggled with😅😎👌🏿 It's amazing to see your progress
Well done! Beautiful piece. Yes to a video on the bed hardware.
I love the mom conversations you are having as you are drilling. 👍🏽 so real.
😂
The ending was the most satisfying with the confirmation from her kids
☺️☺️
Great job as always! I'm so happy for you and your new shop. Keep up the great work!
Wow! Incredible build. That subtle edit when ripping the slats was great too.
Very beautiful
Great to see you back, Tamar! Fabulous first build! Looking forward to more!!
Hopefully I can get back in the shop again soon! Thanks!
The bed turned out AWESOME.....it's definitely a wonderful project for your new shop!!! Love the modern design and the floating nightstands! Great tip on using the dowels to screw into! The walnut is so beautiful. I'm lucky to have 2 Woodworker's Source stores here where I live.
Wow Beautiful!
Yay! New projects in the new shop. Exciting times!
So exciting!!!
I’m just amazed at your knowledge and talent.

Awesome to hear!
What a beautiful piece. I loved it.
Thanks!
Great build
Looks awesome! Great job you did on this project. And family is happy too. That’s what counts.
☺️☺️
Love a good bed frame video. Very smart to add the dowel for the hook bed rail hardware, I never would have thought to do that. I will start incorporating that into my builds. The finished look is so great Tamar! Good luck getting settled in your new shop.
So glad you liked it!
Outstanding carpenter skills and a cool Mom!!
🤘🤘
Love it. I have been watching your channel for a while, and it is fantastic to see how your experience and tool collection has grown over the years. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much! It’s been a while ride. Ha
Gorgeous bed, and gorgeous lumber! 😁
Thanks so much! I love being able to showcase the grain in this way 😉
Great Video. Love the B roll with your kids helping you. That will inspire them so much in the future. Thanks for your content.
Awesome first big project Tamar. I like the angle foot board and the floating night stand. I also loved that you showed us the alternative method for those who don’t have domino.
Absolutely beautiful
Thanks so much!
I laughed out loud with the outtake of you hugging your Domino! I feel the same way. So fortunate I was given the opportunity to borrow one on my first project. That sold me and I’ve been able to do far more in less time in my small shop.
Gonna make it this weekend, love this bed idea
Hope you enjoy it!
Good I'm happy to watching your videos thank you
Amazing job

Gorgeous bed! I really liked that tip about adding dowels into pieces where you're screwing end grain. That's super helpful!
So glad you liked it!
I’m blown away! I love your work so much. I love this build and your family is lucky to have you. (For the furniture and the role modeling!). My dad made a lot of our furniture growing up and I love his pieces still. The floating nightstands are clever, a huge space saver, and look great!
