    I was once a young boy with a mom who was an ace with a table saw. Her shop wasn’t nearly as well fitted out as yours. But her mentorship with my interest in woodworking was so important for me. She taught me plenty about wood and tool use, and also taught me to not be an obnoxious male know-it-all when brilliant women can show me how much I have to learn.
    I wish you were my next door neighbor. I’d be looking over your shoulder all the time. You’d probably get tired of that.

    Those who have never made a mistake, never made anything. When I did my apprenticeship, one of my tutors taught me ‘it’s not a mistake, until you can’t fix it’. We always try to do things right, but sometimes we need to employ a work around to make it right. Adding domino’s was the extra step, possibly not needed, but got yo to where you were happy with the build quality.

    Glad to see youtube is finally recommending me your videos again after your break, time to catch up on the two I missed! One thing I took away from this build was how good the side tables looked next to the bed with the oversized headboard, they fit so well there like they were part of the bed without actually being attached. I've only ever thought of making headboards as wide as the bed so that detail is really expanding my thinking.

  • @mountainlightwoodcraft

    Tamar, you always create such wonderful projects, and, like the rest of us, you make mistakes and have to fix them. Great job! Great ASMR!
    I employ a simple trick to hide the end grain that is inevitable on butt joints such as your bed rails: Cut the ends of the overlapping piece at 45 degrees, and then cut off a small piece that is also 45 degrees and only as long as the board is thick that will serve as a return. That way, it appears that the grain runs continuously as long grain all the way around the butt joined pieces.
    Takes two minutes and ups your game to the next level.
    Keep 'em coming, Tamar!

    • @3x3CustomTamar
      @3x3CustomTamar  Před rokem

      Interesting... I think I am imagining this correctly... Then there would still be a break between the 2 pieces, like a false miter?

    • @mountainlightwoodcraft
      @mountainlightwoodcraft Před rokem

      @3x3CustomTamar
      A visible break, of course, as it is still a butt joint. However, at least this way, the grain runs continuously all the way around the perimeter. You never encounter end grain visually. For the best grain matching results, cut your "miter wrap" pieces from the ends of the adjoining pieces and not from the ends of the perpendicular piece that gets 45-deg cuts on both ends. This way, it will more closely resemble a picture frame joint without the problems associated with delicate "knife-edge" joints on big heavy boards.
      Try it next time. Takes 5 minutes to employ, and the inside cut 45 at each end has no effect on your target dimensional length.

    Showing and explaining the whole process, including the mistakes, is great and helps a lot in staying motivated.
    It can be quite difficult to learn to think in 3D, turning und flipping forms in your head. My skills in that area slowly improove, but seeing even big CZcamsrs making mistakes is kind of comforting.

    No matter how long we have been woodworking and I’m still a beginner with only 4 years experience , I haven’t seen you make many mistakes but I commend you for not editing that out! most times you laugh at yourself , and I know you learn from those mistakes as we all do, or should but I have made the same mistake on similar projects numerous times.
    Nice job!!

    I've learned that wood glue sets far quicker than most people think. I had misaligned some stuff and 10 minutes after gluing it there was no taking it apart. It sucked at the time, but it's nice to know that I don't need to wait over night for glue to dry.

    Wow Tamar I guess it's been a while since I've seen your videos. Your work shop is like wow. I remember seeing you telling us where stuff was going to go. So many new shop tools now maybe that's part of why it only took less than two weeks to build. Great job once again.

    Absolutely beautiful. If it helps, every single mistake you made -> I've done several times over. Especially wood on the planer. You're in the zone and you're tired and of course everything falls off !

    Good video! I've used analine dyes when matching finishes on new projects with existing furniture. I like the alcohol based dyes best. It's great to see you utilize your new tools to their potential! You've come a long way from those early videos in an unheated shop!

    Awesome project. I keep being amazed by your problem solving skills. They say the ability to fix one's mistakes is one of the most important skills in woodworking. You certainly nailed it. ❤ Or maybe screwed it? Anyway, thanks for showing us this build. Great entertainment as well as being a superb learning experience. Thanks Tamar. Oh by the way, I'm just starting your adjustable dado jig build. I've watched that video about 83 times. I could build it in my sleep now.
