Tipping a Service Advisor is absolutely absurd.
Ive seen people with brand new bmws serviced in independent shops. Talking to the owner i found out people rather pay 150$ / hr labor rate because they do not trust dealerships. This video just proves their point. I avoid them like the plague
Yup!!
I just did last week. I had a Bowers and Wilkins door speaker go out. Even though I'm under warranty, I ordered the speaker and paid $150 to a shop to have it installed. The dealership said it would take 3 weeks to get the part.
The problem is when the car's under warranty, you are stuck with the dealer.
another reason why i hate dealers.
Independent reputable shops are the best!
Yup

I’ve had very similar experiences like you at my local BMW MINI service center. In addition they dented the rear quarter panel, peeled the PPF and never apologized or resolved the issues after talking with their service manager. Glad your M5 is back 😊
I’ve seen this at my BMW dealerships. There is no pride in workmanship or responsibility for mistakes. I’ve had 8 BMW’s and every year I am more disappointed in the service at the dealership (in warranty or not). Glad you posted this.
I've had my M3 aligned and it had spacers. Never an issue for me. I take it to a dealer near my spot in North Jersey.
I may need to switch dealers
LOL, when I got my Infiniti G35 years ago (brand new). I had a weird issue with shaking steering wheel. (like out of balance tires). Left it with the dealer. First time, after two days, they said, "can't reproduce" LOL . steering wheel shaks like crazy at highway speeds. Left it there two more times, twice they said they fixed it. But they didn't. (but did balance the tires and changed rotors.) Next trip, they can't reproduce the issues. They said it could the rear brake rotors. (which they BTW already replaced two weeks ago). After a few more trips they always said, they can't reproduce. I got pissed. Asked the service manager to get on the road with me to show him the shaking that the techs can't reproduce. He clearly saw the wheel shaking. We get back to the dealership. He ordered the tech to take off the wheels and tires from a brand new car and swap them. NO MORE ISSUES.
I had exact same issue with my ambient lighting on my G30, also took 3 visit to correct.
Maybe 3 days is a standard! :)
It's been my experience with my '20 M5 competition here in northern Virginia, that not all the service centers are the same. I prefer BMW of Fairfax now over Alexandria, even though I live in Alexandria. The capacity at Fairfax is about double that in Alexandria, and I found that the techs there are willing to spend more time trying to diagnose problems.
I had spacers on the m5 when I took it in to get an alignment. What happened was, running flush fitment on the car the handles that grab the targets and hold them to the wheels would hit the body of car and would fall off. The tech raised the car up slightly and did alignment that way. The hunter machine accounts for all the height changes and alignment came out great. But also this was a Volkswagen dealer.
How much do you tip them? Is it a set amount or do you tip them a percentage? Great idea.
I still have the same light problem on my g30. I had the main dash light replaced but I never followed up with getting it recoded back to the original light scheme. Need to go back to BMW!
Show them this video hehe
I myself work at BMW and for the light strip itself most of the times has just needed a calibration or programming, and roof rails may break in use during winter
In Sweden for reference
Thanks for the tip!
20 minutes east of that dealership is Park Ave BMW. In 7 years, I’ve never had any issues and they’re “mod” friendly. I’ve had my car aligned there twice with 5mm spacers in the front. No issues.
I will give them a try. Thank you.
Everytime I’ve brought my car in for service or repairs, they tend to rip or tear some of the leather in my 8 series and they always fix it for free as they should but you would think they would try and be more careful as to not mess up the leather in your car especially in a higher end 8 series?
BMW service has fallen off big time as of late in my experience as well. Service advisors don’t validate that the issues were properly resolved before contacting you to pick up your vehicle.
It blows my mind
Thanks for this. I had so many bad experiences with BMW quality issues with my M3 and service not fixing issues under warranty I will never purchase another BMW again.
Bring to Princeton BMW and we will make sure it’s right, on time, the first time, every time 👍🏼
Sorry you had a bad experience at another store, glad it’s finally resolved.
I know your dealership very well. I would love to, but it’s about an hour and a half from me.
Unless they are free. I do all my service with an independent BMW mechanic. Had similar issues with warranty repair on my X5. They messed up twice.
I'm lucky to have a good friend that is a tech at a BMW dealer. He services my car on the day they call shop night. I see you take it to what looks like Paul Miller in Wayne. I have issues in the pass with their service. They should be able to do alignment with spacers no reason why they can't. I never had any issues getting a alignment with spacers on any of my cars.
Ugh maybe it’s time to open my own dealer :)
My friend had the SAME EXACT LED issue with his 5 series. Must be a common issues when fixing.
Wow that's horrible. Here in Huntsville, Alabama we several people who have had similar experiences with the service. They bring their car in and it comes out worse!! Like come on!! Sorry you had to go through that and thanks for vlogging your experience for others to steer clear. I have an F80 with 10mm and 12mm spacers and I did have an alignment done by another shop, not the dealership. BMW dealerships are too scared to work on anything that has modifications. Do you plan on going to Bimmer Invasion this year?
I plan on attending bimmer invasion later this year!
I hear you man. That is unacceptable. I own a 2024 5 series and listen if I was getting that kind of service I would not be happy
The communication at Paul Miller between the service advisors and the techs is horrific. I always ask to speak to the tech myself. I stopped servicing my cars at that dealer a while back. Safe to say it hasn’t changed. Lack of knowledge in both departments service and sales. Will gladly service and order my new cars from a different bmw dealer. I understand your frustration and have been with multiple advisors at that dealer. I know exactly who you are talking about.
Glad you made a video on this I’m sure they will be seeing this soon.
If I ran that dealership, customer service and general customer satisfaction would have been my number one priority.
Whoa! I didn't know you got a M5!! Thats my dream car lol!
A dealer aligned my F80 with spacers. They were the only place with an alignment pit that could do it.
Techs that work for Dealers are paid to work fast so things don’t always get done right. This is no surprise. I have brought many BMWs from 3 different dealers and currently have 2 BMWs. All three suck
I own a 2020 X3M Competition (in Canada), all four doors had the same peeling issue with ambient lighting strips, possibly worse than what you had. A dealer closer to my home said warranty wont work as you must have used harsh chemicals to clean the interior. The dealer from where the car was originally sold did the job under warranty without any issues and luckily for me it was done all right the first time. Going back to the spacer and alignment issue, as many have already commented, it depends on the dealer. Which should not be the case. The dealer closer to my home said they won’t get money for this warranty work from BMW (his words) so looked like they had to come up with a nonsense reason.
So there is no standardization across the dealer network either
@@TommyLGarage Doesn’t look like there is. I have heard from some mechanics working at the dealership is that for warranty work, the mechanics get half of their hourly rate but the service advisors, sales guys etc aren’t affected. Don’t quote me on this but that could be an issue. What my SA at the dealership where i couldn’t get the work done told me was since the car wasn’t sold from us we won’t get paid for the job, hence i think they came up with a stupid reason to decline the job under warranty. The SA himself told me to try at the dealership from where the car was sold the first time. One time inconvenience for me to drive and Uber back as they have stopped giving loaners here in Canada after covid for whatever reasons but at least i got the job done under warranty.
Competition BMW service isn’t much better. Your reaction was warranted. I’ve had multiple negative experiences with service. I have the wheel and tire package and took my car to get minor curb rash repaired. The rim came back worse then it was. Another bad experience, I took my car to get an issue with the sunroof repaired. Got the car back with pry marks and marring on the overhead dome light console.
That’s why I do most of my own maintenance
There’s plenty bmw dealers in NJ, personally, I never serviced at pm bmw, but I had good experience with pm Porsche
My dealer installed the front brake rotors on my M3 backwards. I didn’t actually notice for months. I called to make an appointment to get it fixed and the service advisor seemed to think I was some sort of moron. Even when I dropped it off I could tell him thinking “hehe well this won’t take long”. But I got a call eventually and indeed the tech had screwed it up. There were apologies, the tech couldn’t believe he’d made that mistake, yadda yadda. Great, but I would have thought they’d give me a gift card for their swag shop or something for the hassle. But no.
Hello Im thinking about getting an M5 C, but I have come across some horrilbe warranty stories, which is pushing toward a CT5 Black Wing, what's your thoughts?
I prefer the BMW
That’s a dealer problem. I’ve had nothing but great experiences. I used to go to haaberstad bmw in Long Island they were awesome. Always addressed the issues.
Happy to hear! I need to find another dealer
😂😂😂Paul Miller, I used to take mine to Park Ave in Hackensack when I still had my warranty, they seemed like they treated M cars differently since they had an M specific advisor
Just had my 992 aligned with 10mm spacers at the Porsche Dealer, weird BMW can’t do it. I would suspect the alignment tools are similar or same manufacturer
It may be a liability thing
Just had my G80 aligned 10mm spacers…
It really depends on which company owns the dealership. And when they asked for survey, give them a bad one. So they will pay more attention to you
I ignored the survey but I may have to provide feedback
Crap, I recently popped codes for my valvetronic and was going to have Paul Miller do it. Now maybe not :-/
Thanks for sharing your experience. Did the dealer strongly suggest that you give them a 5-Star rating for your service? They seem to have a complete disconnect between providing 5-Star service and expecting to receive a 5-Star rating.
My dealer visit from hell was even worse. I had a CPO car, 2014 F30 328i. It was taken to the dealer for an Oil Service, under warranty. And since they only change the oil when the Service Needed indicator gets below 2000 miles, this would be my last oil change under warranty.
Fast forward seven months, when the Service Needed indicator shows that it’s time for an oil change. I decide to get the oil and filter, and change it myself. Imagine my shock when I removed the filter canister lid to find…NO OIL FILTER!!!!! Yes, they performed an oil change (one of the most basic services) and forgot to put a new oil filter in. So the car was driven about 9k miles with no oil filter!
I called the dealer to tell them what I found. The first Service Advisor told me that I must be incorrect, because the engine cannot operate without an oil filter, that the oil will just leak out. I told her that it is a closed canister, so it can be closed without a filter installed. She actually insisted that what I was saying was not true, that SHE HAS ACTUALLY REPLACED AN OIL FILTER AND KNOWS HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS!. Well, I have been changing oil on BMWs since the 1990s, with a variety of engines that have a canister for the oil filter.
Anyway, I asked to talk to someone else, and the “supervisor” said that there wasn’t really anything they could do, and to let them know if the engine is not running correctly. I asked if they could provide an extension to the warranty to cover any damage caused by their neglect, and was told ‘No’.
That was the last time I ever took any of my BMWs into that dealer for service. I now exclusively use a top quality independent shop.
Check out www.bimrs.org to find a quality independent BMW shop in your area.
Wow, that is pretty infuriating. but there is no way you can prove it to them. I completely feel your frustration.
@@TommyLGarage I took photos, but they can choose to believe it or not. The sad thing is, if I took it to them for that next oil change, they would have discovered the missing oil filter but would have never told me about it!
@@RbNetEngr I bet you it happens all the time
Yeah don’t get me started on these dealers…. I ordered an m3 and the order was wrong. Didn’t get the sunroof, they lost my credit app so interest went up, and added a feature I didn’t want. I had the paper with my signature with everything on it. Fast forward I go to break in service and I asked them not to wash due to ppf and me literally washing that morning. They washed it. So this Friday for the next oil change, I am going 40 miles away to another dealer.
Town Fair wouldn’t align my BMW with spacers.
They probably unscrewed the door lock cap when replacing lights (popped door card)? Forgot to screw it on.
Sloppy work.
Didn’t they mess up something or were careless on the exhaust recently?
Annoying for sure - time is money, see if you can bill them for your time.
They broke off the aluminum thread.
Just change service advisors and talk to the service manager. I do at my dealer and I’m super happy. This could be fluke but it’s nice to be aligned with those people
Like literally request a new service advisor
Good call
Karma for bribing the dealer first place xd
I go to Paul miller for my m5comp. I have not yet experienced what you have to experience so far. However, I do feel your pain and frustration with the dealer. Let me know which dealer you go next and maybe I’ll do the same depending on their services. FYI, don’t go to Edison or Brooklyn bmw.
Did they repair your roof trim? noticed that same thing on my 23' Comp.
Yes. Under warranty
Thanks for the response!@@TommyLGarage
Looks pink. Glad you got it back
I’ll settle for pink :)
@@TommyLGarage could be just the bad CZcams quality
You're definitely not overreacting, I would do the same. You pay this much for the car with a warranty so this should be a normal procedure.
that m4 looks like my old one :) haha! except mine was black!
Hey, love the videos. Also I believe I am living in the same town and know exactly what bmw dealer that is.
After watching on in the video as I thought that was the dealer
Very cool!
tommy this is phill with the mercedes from back in the day yorkville
Oh snap!!! What’s up Phill???!
I've always had great service at Tenafly
I will check them out thanks
There just seems to be a lack of quality in dealerships, they just look at you as a cash cow but dont understand there is customer service attached to vehicle service
This is a simple mistake. It is called Paul Miller BMW in Wayne, NJ. Unfortunately, you chose the wrong dealer to service your car. I already learned the lesson. They won't see any of my three bimmers there.
I would never go back to that dealer again after that visit damm
Oh I won’t
in general dealerships suck so bad. in my experience it's almost like warranties are not even useful unless it's for something catastrophic needing total replacement. I've learned over and over it's better to save your time and diy rather than go to a dealer. Learning to do as much as possible on your vehicle is key.. Not to mention service advisors are clueless. Had a service guy once tell me my rs3 that had a tune had a leaky oil pan because of the tune. made no sense. Guy's face dropped when I asked why my dipstick hadn't shot through the hood yet lol
Most dealer visits for me have been pretty bad
those rgb's are likely addressable and its prob out of wack and needs to be coded.
Yup
Is this location in Wayne NJ ?
Yes Paul Miller BMW in Wayne, NJ. Says on the back of the loaner 5:24
claudio at park ave hes your guy
I had decent experience at that dealership. The other local one is a bigger scam artist. I had leased a 335d m sport and the rear right shock felt blown. Very bouncy, the service manager took it for a long weekend put 50 miles on it. Then came back and told me they couldn't replicate it. They even pushed down on the car and didn't notice anything wrong!! I literally felt I was in the twilight zone. I laughed at him and told him, please don't insult my intelligence. That pushing down on a car will show a weak or bad shock on a modern bmw. I never stepped back in.
Greg the Greek @ open road Edison is highly regarded as a tech. He kindly did as much preventatives as possible on my last visit before the service plan ran out on a f80.
Thanks for the heads up!!!!
Omg omg I owned 4 M3 in my lifetime. I’m 50. I just sold my last M3 and bought a Tesla Y performance. I think I just got old and tired of all the service drama. You are correct. Love BMW but omg I have PTSD.
Any more BMWs in your future?
Paul Miller lol
;)
Sorry you had that experience. I've only had great experiences with my various dealers over the years. Unfortunately, you had a bad tech.
And a bad service advisor
Damn that’s horrible. I would definitely switch dealers and inspect the car more lol
Do you still make mud flaps for BMW M4? 2025?
I do! Buy them here: www.kiesmotorsports.com/products/copy-of-tlg-mud-flaps-for-the-bmw-g80-g82?variant=40709119115349¤cy=USD?aff=7
Whenever you guys go to the dealer. Please. Please. Check their work before you sign off. That is a disaster. I had an issue with Dodge one time. Where it took them 4 Months to replace a radio. There's a whole story behind it. They have a bunch of new mechanics at the dealer. And they do sloppy job...
Now the white ambient light is pink xD
I am willing to live with it ha ha maybe I should just sell the car
My 1997 Porsche 996 Carrera has OEM 5mm spacers and OEM rims, and my official Porsche Center did wheel alignment for free #PorscheClassicService
Finally they fixed it
Tell me about it!
Seems like a dealer issue.
Yeah I don’t go to dealers why I wouldn’t want a car with a warranty to force me to go deal with that
That’s not a bad approach
They dont want to liable if anything happens with your suspension because of the spacers. I would probably ask again and tell them if they can do it and you’ll take full responsibility if anything happens.
Good call. But I’ll just go somewhere else
Might be a coding issue? I wouldn't sweat it they'll dial it in brother.
Should not take 3 visits to fix. It's a huge waste of time.
5th visit will fix it!
5:20 Dude you exposed the dealer 😂 by showing the rear of the car. It's Paul Miller BMW in Wayne, NJ.
Ouch sorry!!
OMG that's insane... LOL the "I don't want to expose the dealer's name" :))) And the video of the wall, this is... I have no words. But well, yeah, they deserve it. This was very, very bad. Hope their management will get things back on track after this, this is way out of control. And no, you didn't over react imo. So sorry this happened to you.
Dealerships hate doing warranty work and recalls. Not surprising. Please get out some more 911 content!
Definitely not overreacting. You were actually great with them man, I would have freaking lost it. No apology, It’s as if it’s your fault. SMH
In Europe / Poland I also had bad experience with BMW dealer. Changed it few times to different ones and also bad results. Finally I have sold my BMW and problem was solved 😂 Since that time I am cured from BMW vehicles 😊
Siemanko rodaku !!!
Don’t think an overreaction just think it’s unfortunate for the constant back and fourth that bmw dealership should have checked to make sure they fixed the issue before you picked up vehicle.
I hate getting the car serviced. It’s such a waste of time. I much prefer it when the dealer picks up and drops off the car. Or if they come directly to your house.
Zero attention to detail
The simple fact of the matter is that you cannot get another human being to care about your car as much as you do, because it’s not their car. If it was their car they would do things right. Sad but true.
I appreciate the idea of not having time to deal with issues at dealerships over and over. My blood is boiling just watching this…lol
Man! I actually hate taking my car to the dealer,...even when it's under warranty! Imagine that. My reason is ...something tells me they will jack something up,...something unrelated to the reason I took it on for, etc.
As for as doing an alignment on your car with spacers,...I understand the BMW Service Center's concerns. However, you probably want to tell them that you will sign a waiver for the alignment. Naturally, with the spacers mounted, the alignment cannot be done to proper BMW specs doe the car. So, will your car have an alignment? Yes. However the spec will be 5mm off!
You better stop tipping your service-advisor….. I still think it is a bad habit and it does not appear to have given the expected result….
Yup! No more
The Paul Miller sticker on the trunk gave it away 😂
Hhmm
You need to bring it to an M certified service dealership. Or consider going to BMW of Manhattan since they’re corporate owned. I’ve come to realize majority of bmw dealership service department is just really bad.
Oh wow BMW of Manhattan is a good idea. I work in the city
At least they are consistent within the family... Paul Miller Porsche is the same clown show
My 2 BMW dealerships that I have cost me a fortune and instead of repairing they damaged more parts. They are not mechanics, but Marie-Antoinettes playing dolls with your car. I deal with a small independent mechanic and I no longer have any problems with my two BMWs.
Insane!!
Wont expose the dealer.... 4 series trunk: Paul Miller BMW lol😂
Ahh you picked up on it? Hehe
Lmao you trolled the dealer.
Love the shoutout to Paul Miller… Paul is gonna be pissed 😡
I deal with Miller
@@TommyLGarage 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
The reason why I don’t like to go to dealers.
You weren't overreacting at all. Total incompetence on their part! Unbelievable!
Here’s a tip, stop tipping your advisor unless everything is fixed on one visit.
I never understood tipping your SA. They’re not the ones working on your vehicle, just middle men.
Dealership techs are flat-rate, which incentivizes speed over quality, find a Indy shop you can trust and avoid the stealerships at all costs.
That dealer is a disaster. Embarrassing.
Absolutely!!
How much would be a fair tip for the service advisor? $100 or more
$100 absolute max. $20 would be more appropriate
$100 but now I’m rethinking it
@@TommyLGarage$100 is insane for a tip for the person that didn’t even work on your car. And given your experience, $1 would’ve been too much.
Paul Miller is too busy… BMW of Ramsey is decent as well as Park Ave
Paul Miller is by far the worst BMW dealer. I'd rather go to Open Road.
That’s the plan!
worked for BMW for years. The techs don't care one bit.
Ugh this is disappointing to hear
I know my broke azz drives huyndais so I wouldn't care about strip leds not working but when you pay so much for a car especially bmw you're expecting price equivalent service, so I totally get it.
That’s my point. It’s insane.
Paul Miller is horrible with service same goes for park ave
U gotta find a new dealer
Yup!
