@@joelhoulette3244 I had a list of like 32 or 33 songs in a Spotify playlist but it didn't allow me to share it here. Reach Haven Postcard is the only one I enjoy that is not on Spotify & I love it.
Dan was born and grew up in my hometown, Peoria, Illinois. We are justifiably proud of him. He had many, many hit songs over the years. This is a favorite because it was the first song I ever heard by him. His father was a band teacher at several local high schools and was well loved and respected in his own right. Rest in peace, Dan. You left us far too soon.
The Late, great Dan Fogelberg. I had never heard of him until I heard this song on the radio back in '74. I heard the entire "Netherlands" album about four years later and I was wowed. Been a fan ever since. Like your good taste, Jamie A!
Great song and artist. Dan Fogelberg was such a great song writer. He has so amazing work. If you love this one you have to listen to Power of Gold. I believe off the same album Twin Sons of Different Mothers. His vocals and harmonies top notch. Peace, Love, Courage from David in Detroit.
This song was from Souvenirs. Power of Gold was from the album Twin Sons Of Different Mothers, a collaboration with Tim Wiesberg (if I misspelled that, my apologies). Either way both albums are superior works.
One of my favorite artists. Dan Fogelberg was such a great folk rock singer songwriter & storyteller. He also played multiple instruments such as guitar, bass, piano & mandolin. His biggest hit was "Longer" in 1979. I had his double album "The Innocent Age" from 1981. It had so many good songs on it including "Nexus", "The Reach", "Hard To Say", "Leader Of The Band" & "Run For The Roses". We lost him much too soon in 2007.
One of the few "orchestral singer-songwriters." What a brilliant composer, arranger, musician, singer. Such a sad loss when he passed away at an early age. NETHERLANDS album is close to a perfect album. His lyrics are as memorable as his melodies.
This was the first Dan Fogelberg song I ever heard, when it was a new song on the radio in 1974, and I instantly fell in love with him musically. Bought the LP as soon as I had enough money. The entire album is just wonderful. I just about wore that record out. I've been a big fan ever since. His lyrics are something special. He was a treasure.
Absolutely LOVE Dan. Yes Harri, it's a very spiritual song, "Await your arrival with simple survival, and one day you'll understand". Dan made his arrival on my birthday about 14 years ago, wish he could tell us about it. RIP Dan, really miss you bro. (edit) And Harri, love your way of looking at things, been living by that creed for longer than you have been. (around)
In the grand scheme of life, we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Lessons we are here to learn are the way our soul grows. Thanks Harri, I like the cow bells too!
I love the verse, Lessons learned are like bridges burned, you only need to cross them but once. Is the knowledge gained worth the price of the pain, are the spoils worth the cost of the hunt?
Danny closes this wonderful song by singing-There is no Eden or heavenly gate that you're gonna make it to one day. But all of the answers you seek can be found in the dreams that you dream on the way. I wrote him a letter years ago and asked him if he was an atheist who didn't believe in God? Many months later I received a reply from him. Which truly shocked me. He told me that no, he wasn't an atheist, he meant that once we died we'd find the answer to what awaits us at the end. He was a really coold dude. Love and miss you, Dan. Rip, brother.
Fogelberg plays most of the instruments and sings a lot of the backup parts on his songs. In the early 80s, I wore out the needle on my turntable playing his double album, "The Innocent Age."
Harri, you’re right. That’s exactly what he’s talking about. More advice from another great song of his is “changing horses in the middle of the stream can make you wet and sometimes cold!” I love Fogelberg.
Dan Fogelberg was my favorite artist back in the day and I had all his albums and replaced them with cassettes and then CD's which I still listen to a lot. His story telling and the lyrics in his songs are the best around and his music just paints a picture of what you are listening to. Two examples are "Dancing Shoes" in which the music in the middle sounds like a ballerina dancing and "Ghosts" in which the beginning music sounds like spirits floating down a hallway. My favorite song of his is "The Reach" on The Innocent Age" album but like many others I also recommend "Netherlands" which has the most beautiful music you will ever hear.
Harri, I'm so happy to see you react to this song. ❤ it. Just for yourself someday, check out Dan Fogelberg's albums, especially Souvenirs, Netherlands, and my personal favorite, Home Free. So many lovely songs that never made it to the radio. Do yourself the favor, and I think you'll end up a Fogelberg fan too. Thanks for this video my friend
Dan Fogelberg is in a class of his own. I can't remember the title but it was him singing about running into an old flame while shopping in a grocery store. I need to hear it again, i will find it. "Same Old Lang Syne" it was about a true story. The story is listed under songfacts, give it a look. and if you please, play the song for your audience. Me, I'm going to play it now. Thanks.
That one is definitely my favorite. It is so very close to a true story for me too, regarding my H.S. boyfriend I bumped into over the Christmas holiday when we were both back to visit our nearby small towns. It was about 25 years after we dated. I listen to that song often.
Good solid early years tune by Dan. I had just about every single album from this great and multitalented artist. Another great one that will make you soar above the clouds is Netherlands. You will love it 😍
Donna Summer did a fantastic cover of Netherlands on a tribute album to Dan.. then lost her health battle a year later or so. Both versions definitely worth a listen.
Nicely done by Donna! I know it's on a tribute album, but it does sound like she took the instrumental recording from Dan's original version and just recorded her lyrics over it.
Thank you for reacting to Dan. Saw him live in Memphis, outside on the river in October. Perfect weather with a chill, the stage was set up with an oriental rug a wooden chair and a microphone ( band instrument were set up as well). But when Dad came out alone with his guitar and started singing, you just had a beautiful feeling of love came over you. Was one of the best concerts I was blessed to attend. React to his vevo video “Rhythm of the Rain” unbelievable.
Thanks for this Jami! I’m so glad to see the requests for this amazing and under appreciated artist! Just fantastic. As always Harri has great commentary 🌺✌️
Please react to "Leader of the Band" (moving tribute to his father), "Run for thr Roses" (tribute to the Kentucky Derby) and Longer (beautiful love song). They are three of my favorite songs. Dan is such a great song writer. His songs are like poetry.
A lot of Dan's music is spiritual. A couple of albums need to be listened to start to finish - Netherlands and The Innocent Age (double album). Both always take me on journey
In memory of Dan and his prostate cancer efforts. Dudes, check with your doctors and get an annual PSA test (50+)it can literally save your life. Key is early detection, and yes I know through experience.
Most of us when we die we are reborn. A few of us go back to be part of the Sun. Hell is only a temporary stay in Hinduism. We can also pray to evolve inyo a higher deity. Or we can back to our previous existence as a spiritual being or to be with someone else. Most important we have to stsy pure in our thoughts and deeds just like the Sun. But the Sun is so hot that Venus because of the penance he did for the Sun (generally stand for Shiva which has a link with Vishnu), has taken to be a significstor of purity in a person's chart.
This record arrived in a box of promos in mid 1974. It sat alongside new singles by various glam rock and disco bands and yet when I played it, although I quickly concluded it was useless for my disco work, I nevertheless immediately loved it and I still do. It's like a sunshine pop record (a genre I almost always like) but with deeper lyrics than that might suggest. Pretty star studded too! Joe Walsh (Eagles etc), Gerry Beckley (America) and possibly Don Henley and Glenn Frey (Eagles) plus Graham Nash (Hollies, CSNY) all played on the sessions in which this was recorded! In different days, say very very early 1970s, I think this would have been a big UK hit - but like so many other great tracks it got washed away by the torrent of glam rock and disco music which dominated from about 1972 onward. Such a shame. "Longer" is another track of his which holds up particularly well. "Part of the Plan" is and will always be in my all time personal top 30 though.
He's one of my favorite artists of all time. He has so many great songs.

My fave song by Dan by far. Runner up: Another Auld Lang Syne.

When I heard this at first, it gave me Crosby, Stills, and Nash vibes. And sure enough, Graham Nash is singing harmonies!
On a lot of Dan's songs he sang lead as well as background vocals.
Dan wrote great songs that had meaningful lyrics. Gotta say though, his love songs have a place in my heart.
Wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to explore Dan Fogelberg.

Love this song and love the album it’s on. Miss Dan Fogelberg; died too young. RIP
Leader of the Band is another of his GREAT songs.
Fogelberg plays most of the instruments and sings a lot of the backup parts on his songs. In the early 80s, I wore out the needle on my turntable playing his double album, "The Innocent Age."
The session credits for the album this comes from were pretty star studded though. Joe Walsh, Frey and Henley, Gerry Beckley, Graham Nash....

Now Dan is a spiritual person. So when he sings the Sun, you can easily imbibe the meaning of the Sun which represents the Sun's soul purpose.
