    Can I connect my optical provider to the converter as an input, and take the lan to the router?

    How can I use it with a regular cable modem? Why does it have to be with a very long fiber cable?

    So my local ISP installed fiber into my home. They ran a singlemode lc type connector fiber cable from the patch to my room, where the media converter is installed. I am getting a connection via hardwired to the media converter, but no connection with my router. Not sure if my router settings are wrong, but I do know I have it in PPPoE mode

      I'm not sure how the media converter would work in this scenario.

    Can I use only the sender?
    I have a modem with ethernet output, and have another modem with only a fiber input. Can I use this converter to extend the Wi-Fi reach in my house with my two modems?

      If you know what light source the modem is expecting you can use one media converter.

    What is the difference between media converters and transceivers(SFPs)? don't they basically do the same thing?

    i recently got fiber(awsome). but what i dont understand. why does the fiber go the converter and than to the router/modem over copper. cant they build the converter into the modem? i mean, the less equitment between the internet and my pc. the less latency. and less change of errors

    • @ComputerCableStore
      @ComputerCableStore  Před 3 lety

      I'm not sure what their reasoning is for that. However, my guess is the cost of a modem/router with a fiber converter built in would be quite higher than a consumer would be willing to pay.

      hi - can only answer from my experience of getting fiber installed where i am - but most of the ISP here give you a special box that cannot be purchased from shops - so appears to be custom made - it seems as though commerical routers that have the fiber converter built in are super rare - not sure why! i am about to try my own hand at having to do the installation myself which will be a first...will see how it goes...

    Nice! have you noticed any speed limitation using that converter? When i attach device from my ISP and connect fiber i have like 900Mb but using this converter close to 400. I used different ethernet cables and wondering if there is something that does not allow same speed as on ISP modem.

    • @ComputerCableStore
      @ComputerCableStore  Před 2 lety

      I haven't noticed any slower speeds when using media converters but with the unique nature of networks anything could be causing problems.

      Is the converter rated for 1gb if the version your using isn't rated for 1gb then that could also cause your speed to be limited also make sure the fiber optic cables your using are also able to run a gb through them most do but u should check if the brand you have is able to run those speeds also check your Ethernet cables going to the rj45 jacks/ Ethernet ports and make sure your not using a lower cat version of Ethernet to connect the two ends via the Ethernet side of the converter a cat 6 or 7 should allow you to hit those speeds or come close to them

  • @hexise

    There are some media converters which support single fiber, the fiber is thin and can be easily hide under baseboard, so it is very convenient if you want ethernet but the cable is too thick to hide, then you can use fiber instead.

  • @Martin-xb2rz

    Can I use only one? A coax cable into it and than a fibre cable which is connected to a router

    • @ComputerCableStore
      @ComputerCableStore  Před 3 lety

      That would be a way to use it but these converters do not support coaxial cable.

    Is a media converter worth it over small distances (6ft between my FTTH modem and PS5) to improve latency, jitter, etc?

  • @Captfuntastic
    @Captfuntastic Před 3 lety

    What is the reason you would use this if less than 300ft? Also what is the furthest distance you can run on fiber?

    • @ComputerCableStore
      @ComputerCableStore  Před 3 lety

      A lot of times they are implemented when there is already a fiber run in place. Fiber is great in places where there might be a lot of signal interference which will have negative impacts on copper. Fiber can run very long distances. We have a media converter that can go up to 80 kilometers or about 49 miles!

    I wish they could invent a way to transmit power along the fiber optic cable. Maybe running a copper wire next to the fiber cable where they terminate as one connector. This means you simply plug this hybrid connector into one port on the end device such as an access point or a camera. Is there in the works such a new port being developed?

    • @madiface

      Could they make the fiber power a small solar module to power a camera? That might be cool but of course not efficient.

    so i reccently ran an ethernet in my house that goes about 100 ft. i am getting alot of speed loss i believe it to be due to alot of interference on the line. i think this will be a perfect solution if i run the same route as the ethernet since fiber does not suffer from wireless or electrical interference. and i can just connect on on each end.

  • @sleepyangelyt4421

    Also this device essentially mirror the behavior of an ont box but without routing or other capabilities ont box would send a fiber signal in to your home through the ont also where it's converted in to a electrical signals that Ethernet cables can understand then ur router receives them this device does the same thing but in reverse these devices can also send and receive a constant flow of data resulting in better throughput and can update game servers current state in microseconds if the distance of the converter is close by thanks to fiber technology the reason its able to do this is because Ethernet signals can face interference by things like microwaves and signals from other general devices that fiber cables would normally be immune to
