So good! Thank you! I got recently diagnosed (40s) with AuDHD & considering homeschool for my autistic child. This is gold!!
So glad this helped
I don’t see many moms talking about themselves having ADHD, so I’m very glad you made this! One tip I have is I get my energy out with the kids, playing, or by doing a short exercise videos here on CZcams before I sit down with any of them.
Thats a great idea
@@LifeintheMundane it also helps to sit in a chair you can rock in, so you have movement
@@captain7471 love that
oh my goodness! it's so nice to hear someone else who functions the same as me... forgetting to eat, planning etc. I'm blessed to have many homeschooling friends, but they're neurotypical, and i don't realize how different i feel until i hear and feel the relief of hearing someone who functions like me.
I get that
I feel so understood by you. I really really want to home school but didn't think it would be possible for me because of 2 barriers: my ADHD and my full time job. Now I know at least one of them can be overcome
You can definitely do it
I made a CZcams playlist of visual timers that I play on the TV on the wall. as long as I can stay on top of starting the playlist, then it lets me know when I need to transition to the next subject... without keeping an eye on the time. I put 5 minute timers in between my "subject" timers to allow for transition time... it helps me stay focused and not get distracted because there's a time limit, and it helps me to require the kids to concentrate as well. the last timer is an hour of free time so anything left at the end of the lesson (because of their goofing off or distraction, not just because of lesson length) they then have to use some of their free time to finish. everything is on that playlist. not just school... it's 5 minutes to gather your food for breakfast, 20 minutes to eat, 5 minutes to wash your dish, two 4 minute songs for after meal responsibilities (one kid clears the table during the first song, second kid wipes it during the second song etc)... again, anything they don't finish they have to finish during their free time timer. timers that happen during lessons don't have music or any sound until the alarm at the end, timers for getting food Etc have beeping to remind them the timer is counting down to help with focus... it's super helpful to me that I can start the playlist and just let it go no matter what time we start... so if I have a morning or my morning sick and we start an hour late, we can still follow the same rhythm. after the first couple weeks, it really is amazing how much less they argue over the schedule once they're more used to it... they still do every now and then, but the consistency makes it so much better! (I also have a morning playlist of songs on Amazon music that my Alexa device turns on at the same time every morning to wake them up... because if it was up to me I would get distracted and not wake them up for an extra hour... when the music turns on that gives me a deadline of how long I have to be ready for them to come out of their rooms... because Alexa reminds them at 20, 10 and 5 minutes before breakfast (and therefore reminds me too)
That’s awesome
This is amazing! Can you share a link to your playlist so I can use some of those timers in my own playlist?
My brain just exploded with ideas!! This is a crazy awesome thing you came up with 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Omg! This is me!!!!! Especially eating!!!!!
Wow... I've been wondering if I have ADHD and I'm convinced that I need to get checked out. This is me to the T and I've had to do almost ALL of these things in order to keep our homeschool in line. Especially admitting that I perform at my best under pressure 😅. I have to keep things busy WITH STRUCTURE and deadlines. I lose everything within moments 😂 I get distracted so easily. Thank you for this video
You are so welcome
This helps so much❤it feels like there’s always a mountain in front of me. I want medication to be a last resort.
I’m so glad this helped
I love the idea of carrying a brain dump book with me the problem is I know I’ll forget to carry it with me and lose it lol. I’ll have to wear pants with pockets and stick a paper in my pocket. I also heard a tip before to use alarms kind of like the school bell telling you when a certain class time or in our case, subject should be over. Whatever doesn’t get done gets moved to the next day. Thanks for making this video!
Yep I have done that and it works fantastic
I started setting daily reminders on my phone for various tasks. My "anchor" points. :) Lunch, start school, chores and reading, start dinner, etc. I have felt so empowered by staying on task and squirreling all day and not getting anything done.
Love that!
Everything you talked about in the first. 5 mins I have been thinking, stressing , wondering so thank you! I found you and I’m so so so thankful!!!! I rather this then fb group bc then I’ll stay stuck there😂 so yea great ideas that I can see me doing that I actually needed to do yesterday😂💯💯 awesome! I was really starting to wonder if I can homeschool with adhd and that’s with two hyper boys that are 3-5 so we not even registered yet JESUS! I so appreciate you already God bless you and your family!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m so glad this was helpful I’m hoping to have more videos like this come out next year.
Thank you so much for this video! I have adhd and my kids have it as well!!!!!!
This is great! Yes! External pressures…I so need that!
🥰
Thank you for hearing me!!!
You're welcome
Love this! I had to start school at a specific time everyday to hold myself accountable. Otherwise, I'd get distracted and we would end up starting way too late. I also have to keep my phone away from myself while working with my kids one-on-one. Having each child have a checklist is not only for them, but for me haha I can mentally check each thing off. We also started having set days for science experiments and projects. Otherwise, I forget and don't have the things on-hand/ready for them. Love the idea of the fidget ring!
Yes, yes, yes, yes yes. I am the same way
Ugh, searching for that login information or those little fires to put out throughout the day take up so much time 😫
Yes and are extra disruptive with my adhd
Thank you, I didn't even know there were other homeschooling moms with ADHD. This was so helpful!
Oh yes there are many of us!!!
Thank you!!! This is so helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
I really needed this thank you! Also, an alternative to a fidget ring is crochet or knitting. If it’s something you don’t need to focus on and count stitches, like a blanket, it is so nice to have extra motivation to get to crochet and it doubles as a fidget.
That is a great idea. I’m not a crafty person but for those who are I think that’s a perfect solution
Great tips! Thank you. I find the anchors really helpful and my phone is a huge distraction. 🤦🏼♀️
Glad it was helpful!
This is super helpful. Thank you for all the tips! My adhd just kicks in and I lose the day!
I completely understand
Really helpful, thank you!
You're welcome!

This is the video I have been looking for for a long time - exactly the tips I need. Thank you!
I’m so glad to hear that
This was so helpful! Thank you so much!!!!
You're so welcome!

You’re very welcome
Wonderful list 👍🏻 Timers really are my best friend 🙌🏼
Yep
Girl your speaking to me !!!!
You and me both lol
This video is super helpful!!!! Thank you!!!
So glad it was helpful
What does a typical adult schedule look like? How do you plan getting the school done, the morning baskets, the read alouds, and all the housework or meal preps?
House work is a family affair we all pitch in.
As far as planning school I do that on the weekends. I try to put systems in place that make things pretty easy. For instance the morning menu only has a page or two each month that gets switched out which makes it easier to come up with. With read alouds I pick and plan those out during summer or winter break so daily it’s just working the plan.
For meals I keep it simple there are no gourmet meals happening here. I prep what I can on Saturday and I teach my kids how to work in the kitchen too. Here is actually a playlist of videos I did on meal prep stuff that might help czcams.com/play/PLubMxue0SIaFXuxJo7raaBWZLBTPH-q79.html
Great tips Katie 👌
Thanks so much! 😊
I was recently diagnosed as autistic with adhd and I can see how many ways it has caused homeschool and parenting struggles in the last 12 years.
I get it. I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and it honestly helped me make sense of so many things.
@@LifeintheMundane SO MANY THINGS
Lol I usually starve myself, not good 😄
You and me both!
I'm constantly brain dumping on a notebook.
Me too
What?!? I didn’t know you could put your phone on blk and white!
Yes it’s a total game changer
