  • In this video, we will be covering some of the weirder Legendary and Artifact items in DnD5e. Magic items of this rarity tend to have effects that are so overwhelmingly powerful that they can change the course of a campaign in an instant, which can make them extremely hard, or outright impossible, to obtain under normal circumstances. So, instead, we will be going over some of the items which have more whacky and outlandish effects than other legendary items or artifacts.

    Orbs of Dragonkind actually have a lot of neat history behind them in the Dragonlance setting, which is why they have such a smorgasboard of really specific effects.

    Interesting tidbit is that one of the earliest trap in the Dungeon of Death (a dungeon from 2e, I think) has sovereign glue in it. I ran the dungeon for e5 and I think the entire team got caught in it. Lucky them, all of them wore gloves. Not so lucky was that one pair was a gauntlets of ogre strenght.

    So interesting thing about the Orrery Of The Wanderer: if completed and attuned to by a level 20 artificer - a fitting class given the artifact's clockwork construction - because each part counts as an attuned item without consuming an attunement slot, Soul of Artifice gives you a +7 to all saving throws for just one slot (technically a +8 due to each component giving a +1 for each stat individually)

    I gave my players a deck of many things in my first ever campaign (because I thought it was cool) and I had a custom deck of cards.
    The party only used it a handful of times after they drew the Dunjon and realized they didn't want to mess with that...
    Until the final battle with the arrogant head of a doomsday cult. The player who had the deck asked to convince the BBEG to draw a card from the deck, and after he rolled a nat 20 on the charisma check, I decided to play along.
    Except I drew The Void.

    The Orbs of Dragonkind go back to dragonlance, where they couldn't just summon dragons, but enslave them. The 'summon only' version is a bit of a downgrade.

      agreed, in my game they still can if you come across them.

    • @michaelrichardson4913
      @michaelrichardson4913 Před měsícem

      The original version from Dragonlance never gave the ability to enslave. It specifically called out needing to use other methods of control or negotiation. The usage of the orbs in the novels was summoning dragons to be trapped and killed in High Clerists Tower.
      Raistlin using it to summon Cyan Bloodbane and commanding him was a measure of his personal power rather than from the orb.
      Prior to Dragonlance, in the AD&D DMG, I think the 8 different Orbs had a dominate ability.

    There's also the Mask of the Dragon Queen, an artifact that's built from component legendary items, that acts similarly to Orrery of the Wanderer. Not nearly as niche, since it has a multitude of powerful effects that are pretty generic.

    I got the deck of many things once.
    I used comoners that had fanatical devotion to me pull the cards out.
    In the end, there was 6 dead commoners, one dead world eater, and Vecne handed over to The 13 Powers to face justice for his crimes.
    Session 3, we completed the entire campaign and it only cost us 6 old men who were all happy to put their lives on the line to ensure their grandchildren had a future.
    The moral of the story? This is why you don't force players to have magical items they don't want, no matter how cool you think it might be.

    • @Schilani
      @Schilani Před 10 měsíci +1

      The moral of the story is probably more along the lines of "If you think your party will face an interesting dilemma, you can just watch them completely break everything you thought you had to pieces."

    28:01 So another CZcamsr stated that the original creation of the deck of many things that it had a dungeon was created for it to be used with. I think if you were going to use the deck and you're afraid of you know destroying your campaign make it like the movie. Hell rising. They have to play the game or they're trapped in a paradise for all eternity. But there is a loophole within the deck. There's a card that allows you to teleport so we can teleport from the queen of pure beauty to back to your home world. Some of you might think way. Would you leave a place that's beautiful. There's no food, no water, and it's just an open field for miles it's just very nice that's it.

    One thing with gluing creatures to object with soveren glue I have is... Why can't you just cut it off without the skin it's glued to? I mean, it's gonna be painful, but it's better than being glued to stuff until you die and naturally rot off them; it could be counted as lingering injury (nothing about it in item description, but if you say that there's no way a square foot wound would heal, I won't disagree with you), but at the point of the campaign when you can get such stuff, you probably have spells that can heal them

    29:55 I'd rather want to know how to use the wish spell myself with no chance of failure (this question has 3 parts: a: casting it myself, b: no chance of the effect being anything unintended, c: not hitting the 1 in 3 chance of not being able to cast it again, as b and c are considered failure and unlike wish, this answer shouldn't try to trick me)

    The Tarrasque is one of the only ways to actually destroy a god in 5e. So if you ever need to go god slaying, using it and another item that I wont mention since its a spoiler for a module lets you drop both on any god or devil lord or demon lord and they are powerless as the tarrasque tears them apart.
    Also a warforged attuning to #2 removes the downsides since they are immune to all magical aging xD. Pretty sure Plasmoids are too, but with how half baked Spelljammer was, I doubt they included that.
    And for #1, if you EVER want to completely upend the entire DaD world, just have your fates thing be "Karsus never existed.". No Karsus's Avatar, no death of the first mystral, and no collapse of the Netherese empire. Now your world has 10-11-12th level spells and everything.

    • @Schilani
      @Schilani Před 10 měsíci

      I like the Karsus take. Also depending on your level, that super powerful Wizard in your party suddenly just becomes a random wizard, because his most powerful spells suddenly are outclassed by miles.

    • @asimovvomisa4040
      @asimovvomisa4040 Před 7 měsíci

      Depending on who is talking about Karsus i would ask myself how close to meta gaming we are getting.
      The Wizard ? Sure he will know about Karsus but he should also know that changing past events could have devastating repercussions especially when they happened ... thousands ? of years ago (you know Chaos theory and oh boy if he goes though with it my thought process would be:
      Ookay~... session ends. Next time prepare new characters as i doubt your current ones exist (or at least met like you did) in the present as you changed too much.
      I guess i will take a break while i piece together a couple hundred years of lore that were shattered ... oh wait i dont have to (evil smirk)... yeah make new characters
      Next time you will have to fight the Phearimm (i guess i can make them 11/12th level casters that can cast all their spells at will with some weaker minions like Mind Flayers, Beholders, ... and since they are evil creatures that have mind slaved followers that do their bidding i guess each of them have a couple hundred slaves that do manual labor and stuff)
      I hope you are ready to rewrite about 2000 years of arduous history. Not like there were devastating events that made life for mortals very hard (forget Quantumogres i can have Quantumgods walking my setting for a time XD) .
      Difficulty setting for campaigns moving forward: grimdark.

    • @Schilani
      @Schilani Před 10 měsíci +1

      That depends on how you want to read that attunement ability. Because if you read it as one, then yes, the Monk will just completely negate that effect with level 15 or higher. But you could also read it as different effects that are put together. In that case you wouldn't suffer the direct negative effects like half speed and reduced sight, but you still would die in 3d8 days, because that time would mark the end of your natural life, which the Monk wouldn't prevent.
